Giant Hammerhead Sharks Hunting Blacktip Sharks - 4K

  • I have been fishing for blacktip sharks since 2003 and one of the most amazing sights that I've ever seen is a giant great hammerhead shark hunting blacktip sharks. This past winter, I filmed some incredible drone footage of giant great hammerheads hunting blacktip sharks in the shallow coastal waters of Florida. There were multiple hammerhead sharks sighted, ranging between 12-14ft (the biggest hammerhead must have been 1000lbs).

      Pretty sure the Hammerheads were just cruising through to try and spot a weaker blacktip, as they have all the time in the world really and risking getting bitten in't worth it.

    • @noneofyourbeeswax01
      @noneofyourbeeswax01 7 років тому +7

      Yeah the blacktip are clearly more agile and a bit faster, so I agree the Hammerhead would be just cruising through and looking for ill or injured sharks. It only needs to get lucky once in a while for a decent dinner, and sooner or later in a shoal ( do sharks shoal?) of that size it'll come across a blacktip that's just a little too slow to respond. The speed of the Hammerhead is a little deceptive, as we can see when one puts in a burst @1:55 it shows that they can move a lot faster that they're letting on!

    Shark week needs to work with blacktip

    • @jonathank5289
      @jonathank5289 7 років тому +6

      Austin - shark week did do a story I believe last year on the blacktips and the Hammerheads eating them. Also noted that many of the great white sharks fitted with acoustic tags pinged during the night off of south florida and they believe they came in to eat the eat blacktips also. The sharks were tagged by Osearch.org (great app for live tracking) and motes marine. The infamous 16ft Katherine and 14ft Betsy where 2 of the more famous great whites to ping right up on the beach.
      There are underwater acoustic beacons placed close to the surf line up and down the entire coast of the east coast of the US tracking when sharks come in close.

    Josh, this is the most exciting drone footage I have seen. I have enjoyed your videos of fishing Florida waters but this is absolutely amazing. I would be interested to hear what fishing wisdom you have drawn from your drone observations of the interaction between the Hammerhead and the Blacktip. I believe drone observation will be the next revolution in fishing knowledge similar to the sonar revolution. I do believe it must be used for knowledge, not for exploitation. At one point, fair chase included no use of RF technology to communicate between hunters. Today, mobile phones are regularly used to keep track of intended game. Drones could change the sport in a very negative way.

    the treat at 0:35: all the hotel beach beds lined up in front of the enticingly crystal-clear tropical water, and the lone tourist standing at the water edge, about to take a splash amid hundreds of sharks!

    There was just a shark week video on the hammerhead migration, and how this is a possible mating ground for the hammerheads, and they come here because of the blacktips, which are a good food source. I bet you could send this to discovery channel or something and be on tv

    Duuuuude awesome! I wish my shore was filled with sharks like that..
    You can't take two steps without getting tangled in seaweed where I'm at. You should record a shark fighting while you reel it in that would look pretty bad ass.
