    2/10/20 UPDATE:
    Pinata Alcohol Inks Sealing process: I found no need to first seal with Kamar before using Art Resin.
    Please note: Different chemical reactions can occur with Alcohol Inks and Sprays so also test a small piece before applying to your art project.

    **UPDATE FOR TILES: Creating a coaster (Not Trivet) up to 120 Degrees (hot coffee fine) I have great results with Art Resin.
    1. Ranger Inks ~ Seal first with Kamar as usual
    2. Step Two Art Resin (no uv spray needed as it is built into the resin).

    Thank you for sharing. Have you noticed if you use black ink , does the sealant change the coloring affect of the black? I am dealing with using Black and Purple inks and it looked beautiful, until I sprayed it, it then changed the color of the black to a green shade. I'm wondering if Black has that issue. I dont have any issues with other colors , only the black. It's odd.

    Can I do the kamar and UV on my ceramic tiles? if they are going to be used as coasters is there something cheaper than resin in spray form that will work just as well?? thanks!

    I have some Krylon "Protect It" spray. Would this work as well on the alchol ink paintings.......I did try one painting with it and it has not affected the ink....I gave it two quick coats.

    TU for this technique. I was mortified when I looked at an alcoholic ink background I did and used foil to add interest. The next day I rubbed it in one area and it moved. OMG! So, I found ur video and will buy the sprays you suggested. So is the UV spray necessary? TIA

    Thanks for this Kellie, very helpful, I have a question that no one answers I am guessing because they don’t know, and no problem if you dont, but I love to embellish my inks on Yupo with Sakura micron pens, but they move when sprayed and are not waterproof on yupo, the only way I have been able to attempt to seal them is to do a couple of extremely light coats of Kamar, but it is still a very risky business, any suggestions? Thanks

    Why a very careful, light spray on the 1st one, then an up close, heavy spray on the 2nd? Of course the second will move under those conditions. I do a light spray of triple thick, or clear sealant……no problems.

    • @KellieChasse
      @KellieChasse  Рік тому

      Some brands of inks will react, so a light coat will first seal it, then the second (some folks do more) will protect. That's great that you didn't have a problem!

    hi I have just started using yupo paper and I can't find or afford the kamar varnish! I was wondering if I could use hairspray instead?

    • @KellieChasse
      @KellieChasse  5 років тому

      Hi Ally, haven't tried sealing with hairspray, but my guess would be no since most have alcohol in them which will reactivate the alcohol inks.

    Hi Kellie, Should I wait the same amount of time putting on the UV protector after the karma, 15 mins or longer?

    • @KellieChasse
      @KellieChasse  6 років тому +1

      Hi Nancy, It will usually dry quick in a warm dry home, of course that all will depend on heat/humidity in your area. Test a corner to make sure it's dry before adding a second coat. ;)

    • @KellieChasse
      @KellieChasse  8 років тому +1

      Hi Birthe! Of course you can ask! :) I normally purchased pre-primed canvas and use Alcohol Blending solution to move the inks around. You can also use any type of glossy gesso to prime canvas.

    Hi Kellie - I tried to order a can of Kamar Varnish through Amazon (I live in the UK) but all the suppliers seem to be in the USA and my order was cancelled as it is considered 'Hazardous' and cannot be exported. Do you know of any suppliers in the UK? Thank you - Helen

    • @KellieChasse
      @KellieChasse  7 років тому

      Hi Helen, Are you sealing tiles or yupo? I'm sorry, I'm in the US and I'm un-familar with what they would have in the UK. I can tell you that Resin works very well for tiles and some brands have a UV protection (Art Resin is one) and there is no need to pre-seal. However some ink colors do fade more than others, so I would advise testing before you try on a piece you love!
      If you are using YUPO paper you can skip sealing if you place under UV glass. :)
      Look for a spray that is water-based not alcohol based as that will re-active the inks and make the colors move.
      Hope that helps a little! ;)

      Hi Helen, Krylon products are only available in North America, but art supply stores carry a number of products for sealing all kinds of media (and they will be much less expensive...) The reason products such as Krylon sprays can't be imported is because they don't conform to EU safety, solvent gassing and emission standards. There are always alternatives when a specific product isn't available :)

    Hi there! Thanks so much for posting this. I am just a little confused. I am trying to seal ceramic and at the end of the vid you put on the screen to use "2 part epoxy." What do you consider an epoxy...the Kamar Varnish? Thank you again.

    • @KellieChasse
      @KellieChasse  7 років тому +1

      Hi Jason, Great question!!! If you plan to use the Ceramic tile as an art piece you can just spray the same as on the yupo. Kamar first (a few light coats), then UV spray. (End of the video is describing coasters) If you are going to use the Tile as a coaster you will need something more permanent as the Kamar varnish will not hold up against wet cups. Here is what I used for Coasters to seal. Art Resin - this is a short demo of a coaster tile: ua-cam.com/video/91S3Wh7coLM/v-deo.html - hope that helps! :)

      Kellie Chasse - Awesome! Thanks so much! I am making coasters. I was in Wal-mart when I posted my question and I had the Kamar in hand. I did end up buying it but I will need it for none coaster art anyways. Take care!

    hello Kellie, so basically on Yupo, we need to spray Karma first then UV sealed afterwards, is that correct? Thank you

    • @KellieChasse
      @KellieChasse  7 років тому

      Hi Teja! You got it...you can also skip those two steps if you plan to have it framed under UV glass, but make sure it does not touch the glass. Your framer can make sure of that. Usually the Mats thickness keeps that from happening. Feel free to check out my online courses they are on sale this weekend - 10/2! Use coupon code 17MCSEPTEMBER12 at www.kellielynnart.com

    Have you ever tried varnishes with a regular medium gloss (with brush)? Or would that reactivate the inks?

      Also how essential is the UV layer - wouldn't the 2 layers of varnish be sufficient?

    • @KellieChasse
      @KellieChasse  6 років тому

      The varnish seals the inks so they do not move or reactivate but it does not help with fading. I recommend a UV spray to help prevent fading as Alcohol inks are not lightfast. You can also use UV glass when framing. ;)

  • @lindamuir921
    @lindamuir921 6 років тому

    Kellie can you spray first with Kamar, then the UV spray and then more Kamar on top of the UV spray for extra protection?

    Hi - I have two coats of kamar and two coats of acrylic sealer and the ink is still seeping through and is wet to touch in a couple areas. What can I do to avoid this?

    • @KellieChasse
      @KellieChasse  6 років тому

      If you have multiple layers of inks and they have thicker inked areas let them dry for 24/48 hours (maybe more) before applying the Kamar Varnish. Do 2/3 light coats letting them dry in between.

    • @Akprattphotography
      @Akprattphotography 6 років тому

      Kellie Chasse I let the pieces dry for three days or so before applying the varnish and they've dried for about 24 hours between each coat and they're still wet and ink is seeping through the sealer for some reason. I guess there were heavy inked parts that didn't dry after three days that are just not drying at all.

    • @KellieChasse
      @KellieChasse  6 років тому

      So sorry to hear that, yes you have to make sure the inks are Completely DRY before adding the first layer of Kamar. I have never had ink that stayed wet for that long. Are you using Alcohol Inks or Bombay ink? :)

    • @Akprattphotography
      @Akprattphotography 6 років тому

      Kellie Chasse a combination of alcohol, alcohol inks, alcohol inks mixed with alcohol, blending solution, the solution mixed with the inks and Jane Davenport inkredible inks which may not be alcohol based - it doesn't say on the bottle.

    • @KellieChasse
      @KellieChasse  6 років тому +2

      The Jane Davenport are water-based, that may be your problem! Try with just Ranger or Pinata inks. :)

      If you use a UV sealant, you should be able to put the art into a frame without any glass, you'll just need to mount it correctly. The whole point of stuff like yupo is that its plastic. (professional framer)
