Great video! I love both the books and film adaptations. I had no idea there were more books than the original three so im glad i watched this now i know! I really like your Redwall and Eragon videos. These three series are some of the most near and dear to me so im glad to see you showing them some love. Thank you!

Hey I really appreciate such a kind comment! Thanks so much for watching all the videos, it's so cool they resonated with someone out there. Those three series meant the world to me growing up too and they definitely deserve the love!

Ironically, the Chronicles of Narnia would actually be a better fit than HDM for your format; there hasn't been a significant adaptation since the failure of the Walden Media film franchise and the Greta Gerwig series for Netflix appears to be in development hell.

Interesting! You mean a better fit as in there are more ups and downs with the series / drama? I'm trying to find a way to include more series and IPs that don't have alot of drama in them, so maybe I need to consider changing up my format..... anyway I thought about doing Narnia but I think it's been covered a good amount, but maybe one day! Thanks for the suggestion!

@@exitsexamined With regard to my comment on "better fit", I was referring to your channel name's emphasis on "Exits"; Narnia has very much exited the popular gestalt ever since the cancellation of Walden's take on the Silver Chair.

Awesome video. I grew up absolutely devouring this series, and have the major books on my shelf. One of my most red and loved books, and I am eagerly awaiting the last book of the newest trilogy!

I never read the books. But the show was really good. I got hooked on it. It's definitely worth watching.

Hey I would 100% recommend them if you are a fan of the books. They are pretty faithful!

I am a long time lover of the books and recently watched the show and it did not disappoint! It really did stay quite faithful to the books though of course there are a few small things that they had to change mostly because some of the things in the book are hard to make in live action.

One of my favorite series ever, very formative to my teenage years, especially in regards to my views on religious organizations. Lyra and Will are a great protagonist pair, and their ending is one of the most heartbreaking moments in fiction. Whilst the show adaptation stumbled at times, it absolutely nailed the ending, and consequently drove another nail painstakingly into my heart.
Great check-up on the series, reminds me that I need to get started on reading those companion books before the final one of the new trilogy comes out.

aw man yet another foundational series from my childhood! I was raised catholic and transitioned from private to public school for 5th grade. first boyfriend's parents were staunch atheists and gifted me this series for christmas. firstginger on tumblr has a very in depth daemon quiz that was a lot of fun to take!

I read his Sally Lockhart’s in my mid teens I think just after the fourth book was published (in a boxed set!) and after I finished them I strongly encouraged my mother (who was at least 50 at the time) to read them and she loved them and said they’re like anything she’d read just shorter than she’s used to. She loved them!
I read HDM also just ahead of the movie release so I got the box set as well. And remember the controversy to where my former principle (from elementary) to ask if I’d a positive opinion of the book. I didn’t quite understand all that I was reading as inherently anti-Christian but I was also raised effectively atheist. I do remember the death of god scene and was kinda blown away but also again didn’t see that as inherently blasphemous (again, at 14 and raised without a religion, I mean that tracks) so I’d overall a positive opinion despite the slight confusion over if the death was too wild or not. But I did tell her that. Ugh. Good times. I think I’m going to give it a re-read plus this new trilogy! I had no idea they’d ever come out!

I should really revisit this series and the newer material. I remember my mom reading the whole series around the time the movie came out and I read the first book. I think she discouraged me from reading the others because of the darker nature. To be fair, I would've only been like 10/11 at the time of its peak popularity. I don't think I ever completed it so it'd be nice to go back to as an adult.
I've also been interested in the TV series, but wanted to read the books before watching it. Seems like I'll have time to catch up before the newest installment.

I would absolutely go for it! Both the show and the books hold up extremely well for adults. I think Pullman's works have a pretty big draw regardless of age. I know for me personally, getting back into everything while researching for this video was great.

I'm just going to ask cuz if you don't ask you won't know would you ever consider covering the Barnabas trilogy which you seem like you fall more or less into the let's say progressive camp at least you know tangentially that's my that's my observation and there are some legitimate you know underlying socialist principles in those books that you probably enjoy another thought have you ever considered covering I believe it is the six books series The Immortal Nicholas Flamel I was really into those books when I was younger

I can't stand Pullman. The way he writes is spiteful and laden with vitriol. And if this book series was supposed to be about "killing God" as he so claims, Pullman should've challenged ALL religions, not just Christianity.

Pullman is obv from the UK as in that war the theological framework he was most familiar with critiquing but also like tbh due to the legacy of imperialism it’s also the theological framework most of the world has been raised in or raised in systems based off of so like

I read the books as an adult and they were just boring and i thought the tv series was at least more interesting then the books.
Btw you said Demon, but its spelled Daemon, and not spoken as Demon.

Dæmon is just an alternate spelling. Æ is pronounced like an E. See for exaple "archæology" the older spelling of "archeology".
