This is why I want to see one of their family cookouts with the old family cookout music. Their family all bonding to the older jams. Give them a trip down memory lane too. I'm Irish and Spanish we listened to it all. Motown was a must. Music has no boundaries. Love that they're reminding us of that.
1978: Earth, Wind, and Fire were part of the Afrofuturist / Mothership thing. So, their clothes are inspired by both traditional African dress and futuristic elements. And disco 😊
LaMonica Williams I cant believe these boys don’t know who they are!, they filled stadiums all over the world!. I saw them many times in London. Of course they seem dated now but they were a huge at the time. I’ve still got my Tour T-shirt from 1982! 😁
Lambchop2701 I’m wondering where they grew up? What were their parents listening too. I’m sure they are my age .. so their parents had to know , as EW&F was standard for my parents . I mean .. COME ON! Was this a religious household where no secular music was allowed . I’m too baffled !
My kids are 30 years old, so not that much older than them. And they knew all about this song and loved EWF from an early age. And we were all white as snow. I'm trying to understand how they wouldn't know EWF
I absolutely love this song and EWF, but have never watched this video. I was born in the 70s and, to be fair, from a 2021 perspective, everything about the visuals is surprising and delightful or humorous. Yes, they are costumes. But also, yes, they "are not wearing that on a daily basis," which--c'mon--that's just a very funny idea on its own. I enjoy being able to re-experience so much great music with these young men, and am grateful they let us share in their genuine joy.
This song gives everyone the feel goods. It's a great song to listen to at a large party, outdoor concert-just a classic and makes me wanna dance and sing! Love listening to this in my car driving-windows down and singing my heart out!
This is one of the few songs on Earth that ALL races love. Over the years I've seen Asians, Arabs, Latin, Black and White people lose their minds when this song started in all kinds of club parties, weddings and street block parties I attended. This song is legit. Newborns all the way to senior citizens love this song. I've seen the reactions with my own eyes. Watching todays Millennials react to my childhood music so positively really makes me feel complete. Sincerely, from New York City. Frankie B.
Yes! Lyrics substantially written by Allee Willis, based on a chord progression written by EW&F. Willis was white (Jewish), but clearly had everyone of every race in mind.

The Elements or Earth, Wind & Fire is one of the most famous bands in life. They spanned the musical genres of R&B, soul, funk, jazz, disco, pop, rock, dance, Latin, and Afro pop
They were one of the most popular bands of the 1970's and 80's, and outrageous outfits were part of that era. Look at Parliment and David Bowie. You may laugh, but they were combing the glitter glam rock with bold African print fabrics and long Dashiki style tops. Pretty badass and creative.

You have to know that Maurice White wanted to bring every race, every, religion, every persuasion together with his and Earth, Wind and Fires music. He was a pioneer, no one can compare to. Phillip Bailey , Verdeen and others carried on that tradition. I wish he were here during these times that only seem to stop the progression of acceptance and togetherness amongst the people. Thanks to you twins that have an open heart and open mind- music is the great equalizer. I will support you through likes, and have bought your merchandise. God bless and give you much success- there needs to be more like you both in the universe
thats not true, audio mixing was absolutely a thing long before this track came out, this isnt recorded live, its just a music video the track would have been recorded and mixed in a studio in large audio editing machines the vocals and instruments would be processed, notice the bongos faintly in the right ear, it didnt just magically appear like that it was engineered by an audio engineer, listen to dark side of the moon as an easy example of amazing audio engineering and that album is from 1974.
I just took my 18 year old niece to see EWF a couple of years ago. Yes and their costumes are pretty outrageous, but they're show men, and they put on one hell of a show ALWAYS! They often have some kind of space-themed, futuristic costumes. I was just thinking I would love you guys to hear Earth Wind and Fire, and September is one of my favorite songs EVER! It makes me so happy every time I hear it. I can't stop dancing.
I love how the started dancing the second that the singing began. You can’t just sit like a statue when you hear this song. At the very least, your head will be bopping. 🎶 🎺 🎸
My favorite story about this song, a good friend many years older than I, started college at FSU in the Fall that this song came out. He said it was playing everywhere on campus. He said every time he hears it it brings him back to that first year of college. Happy memories that last a lifetime.
"Easy Lover" was a fav of mine. It was on Phillip Bailey's solo album "Chinese Wall". Phil Collins produced much of if not all that album and you can hear it in the drums and so forth. Phil Collins does some background vocals on a few of the tracks. The "Easy Lover" video was a lot of fun to watch, those two were just having fun. If you ever saw Genesis video "Turn it on Again", it's a similar kind of video, just following musicians getting ready for performance. Great stuff that it's a shame people forgot about.....
Those were simply their costumes, they had a space theme going on, like taking you to another universe, it was the 70''s, the lead singer died about 5 years ago
Costumes aside, their musicology was top notch. Their music was not synthesized, they had a horn section!!! Their voices meshed wonderfully with each other.
Earth Wind and Fire were ahead of their time! Nobody wore what they wore or sang what they sang but they were respected and loved! Their music was always loved and still is today!
You always call the gear these old bands be wearing "clothes". These were "costumes" to fit the theme of the albums they were currently on. EWF was into the stars and metaphysical realities.
This song was played on speakers after my daughter’s hs graduation this year while they were still on the football field. The entire class was dancing on the field and the parents were dancing in the stands. It was great!
I had to really think about why you all never heard of EWF and other classics then it dawned on me. We heard our parent’s music when they blasted it in the house during family celebrations or on Saturday mornings when we were cleaning. Now with everyone wearing earbuds and earphones, the younger ones don’t know what the older ones are listening to so this music is all new to them. Even as we ride in the car, everyone is listening to their own genre of music. Remember when we couldn’t touch the dial in the car without begging first? Lol I’m sure your parents have some of this music in their playlists. EWF was my favorite band back in the day; saw them perform several times. Their live shows were awesome and they also included magical illusions.
Exactly. I love this channel but you guys must do some research before you post. This band is truly one of the best ever. So..do yourself a little research prior to posting a response so you don't come across as being completely uneducated with whom you are listening to. Ok. Love the channel but be prepared. Enough said.
The lack of 'preparation' is precisely what makes these videos fresh, fun, and appealing time after time. The twins' reactions are authentic, because they react to the songs through a pure lens, not through a lens of cultural context. YT is crammed with planned, scripted, polished, phony, cookie cutter tripe. These young men are a breath of fresh air, and they do NOT come across as uneducated. They come across as real.
Earth, Wind and Fire was an extremely popular band in the 70s and 80s. The band showcased 9 members (not including their fabulous horn section called the Phenix Horns). Their founder, Maurice White, studied astrology, African sounds, jazz, pop and soul to create the band’s sound. He also introduced a small wooden African instrument called the Kalimba to the band and it became a part of their unique sound. Their history is amazing and the clothes they wore on stage, reflected the spirit and essence of the music they created. It may seem a little strange to you today but in the 70s everything about Earth, Wind and Fire was, as you would say “cold.” I’m glad you enjoyed it. Take a listen to their earlier work (from 1973-1978) it’s even better (to me). P. S. They also worked with Phil Collins.😉
I love Phenix Horns and they were definitely part of the EW&F magic, but we also have to give love to Seawind Horns, who also did a lot of recording with EW&F (the I Am album for one)
Earth Wind and Fire were known for their style. They were one of the hottest groups back in the day. There isn't one song that stands out. Parliament and Funcadelic were unique in style as well.
Same, as a kid I used to make my step dad keep replaying it and Fantasy in the car (can't remember if he had both burned onto the same disc or not but they were the only songs I wanted to hear on the cd lol)
Picture this: Heading to Myrtle Beach the morning after graduation with 5 friends in someone's dad's Caprice Classic. Top 2 songs on the radio were "We are Family " and "Chuck E's in Love " by Ricki Lee Jones. Good times.
Earth Wind & Fire was promoted by Clive Davis the same person who discovered Aretha Franklin Barry Manilow Whitney Houston Simon and Garfunkel Carlos Santana Bruce Springsteen
Definitely some Santana. Needed to listen to Sly and family stone " I'll take you higher" still pushing for Stevie wonder "living in the city" grand funk railroad " I'm your captain/ closer to home" and some John mellencamp "pink houses" "paper n fire" tumbling down" You guys are great keep it up
Saw EWF at the Legends East concert at Citifield a few years ago. They had 40,000 people going insane. The building shook. They were called back three times.
It totally makes my day! Seeing appreciation for the music that defined my life when I was their age. It’s a fun stroll down memory lane but fresh through their eyes!
I can’t believe some of the songs they’ve never heard- makes me feel so old. Most of the songs were made before I was born, but I still know every word.
The biggest band of all time! Even Beyoncé, JayZ, John Legend and these so called icons of 21st century bow to Earth Wind and Fire. They started it all!
"The Earth, Wind and Fire horn section played with Phil Collins on Face Value in 1981 and the following year on the Genesis album Abacab. In 1984, Collins returned the favor by cowriting and recording "Easy Lover" for Earth, Wind and Fire singer Philip Bailey. They shot a goofy video (check out Phil's amazing sweatervest) and released it on Bailey's 1984 album Chinese Wall. It probably surprised even them when it hit Number Two on the Hot 100." --Rolling Stone, 2013
I saw EW&F in Atlanta a few years ago. These guys are old. You’d have never known it by their performance. Their singing was perfect. The dancing was still there. Respect!
I was a young, pregnant hippy and got caught on top of a fence I was trying to climb over to see Earth Wind and Fire by the cops. One of them helped me down and said anybody that wanted to see a group that bad could go on in
@@raeellengn8369 I don't think they would understand *some* of the lyrics of Lady Marmalade...its in Creole/French. Google Translate might come to their rescue.....but I would *LOVE* to see their reaction on that song!☺
Fantasy is my favorite! Earth Wind and Fire transcended all races, and they were one of the most popular groups when I was growing up. There outfits were awesome, guys, come on...
Makes me dance EVERY SINGLE TIME!! Now...one of you boys got yourself a girlfriend, or is this your sister? Such a pretty girl. You should introduce your guests!
LUKE 1854 EWF was always big into Afrocentricity, world religious studies, etc. The stage outfits had meaning for them and were also a source of pride.
Made in the 70's. Fantastic songwriters. Got to see them in person about 3 years ago. Still rocking it. Lead singer's son took his place when he passed. Let me tell you, EVERYBODY was on their feet dancing. You cannot sit still listening to them. Fantastic brass, percussion, just amazing. Lord have mercy they are still IT
Y’all chill on these young dudes they teenagers - Have fun with it young kings 👑 you found a lot of dope music but most of all you found something positive to do with your lives 🙏🏾💯👏🏾
Agreed. I have been a teacher for two decades, so you can't take what teenagers say personally. They are just being themselves. Truth be told though, what were we thinking with those outfits?!
This proves that video really did kill the radio star. Just because of these obviously dated 70's clothing, EWF would have never been given the chance today even they could DESTROY any of the BS that passes as music today.
Back in the 70’s I was definitely skating to these jams. Everyone was in a good mood jamming to these songs while skating . Good times for sure. Need to listen to 🎢 roller coaster.😂
You: laughing at Maurice's stank face Also you: grooving along with stank face Ha ha, we see you! Anyway big respect for EW&F. And knowing what we know today about America, *seems* these hugely talented guys were literally singing their way so passionately out of the socio-economic deprivation that their history had assigned them. BIG RESPECT. CLASSIC 70s TRACK
Your ignorance of ubiquitous music never ceases to astound me, but it also makes your reactions even more pure and I love it. It's like watching people step out of a cult bunker for the first time.
I love that this was just pure fun, no negativity and the artists didn’t feel the need to cuss or promote themselves in every song. E W & F is awesome.
Guys! I am soooooo surprised y'all didn't realllllllly get it!!! This is such a great, great song! At your next bbq, ctank this one up and watch the "elders" get up and MOVE! ✌🏼😉

Quite right! x
both Maurice and his brother were on the medical school tract, but decided to do this instead.
I agree! I am 59 yr old white woman who loves EWF cause we all danced to this. The EWF collection is on my iPad for walking!
@@1stltwife I'm 64 and "Fantasy" is one of my all time favorites.
@@notknot3412 Regardless of what they did before, if you love your work you never work a day in your life!
Classic Disco guys! “What they wearing” is classic 70’s disco. All the rage “back in the day”
You guys are “banging”!🤗
Yup, the sparklier the better😆 It's all about being SEEN!
My happy music. I was just a kid back then but them, the Jacksons and Chicago always cool!
The wardrobe is based on African royalty. Not typical disco clothes.
Ring my Bell.
Debbie Simonsen i actually was practicing to sing that in the 4th of July Talent Contest. I did not follow thru but kept me busy.
They played every instrument , sang every note - Live , no auto tune , no running it through a computer. Pure quality & style 💜💕❤️
The horns rip in this song
Except for in "Let's Groove."
But that was a vocoder. That still takes skill.
thats not true, audio mixing was absolutely a thing long before this track came out, this isnt recorded live, its just a music video the track would have been recorded and mixed in a studio in large audio editing machines the vocals and instruments would be processed, notice the bongos faintly in the right ear, it didnt just magically appear like that it was engineered by an audio engineer, listen to dark side of the moon as an easy example of amazing audio engineering and that album is from 1974.
@@WookieWarriorzmixing is not auto tune.
Bros, this was the mid seventies and these guys are still touring TODAY.
I would love to see them
I just took my 18 year old niece to see EWF a couple of years ago.
Yep - and we saw them in Chicago. Even tho band is older (and so are we) we all busted out our dance moves from the 70’s! Pure joy.
We had tickets to see them with Santana this summer. Hopefully next year 🙏
Tragically, Philip Bailey has lost his incredible edge. Given that he's 70 years old, it had to happen. I doubt they'll be touring much longer
One of the greatest group of all time..the singer..Maurice White. R.I.P.
I love how the started dancing the second that the singing began. You can’t just sit like a statue when you hear this song. At the very least, your head will be bopping. 🎶 🎺 🎸
That was the first thing I noticed too. Lol
Earth, Wind & Fire, LaBelle, ABBA- the clothes were a big part of the show and there were no limits on how crazy, big and bright they got.
Y’all, the 70’s was kind of a weird time period for fashion. They still had great music though, right?! This was definitely playing at the cookouts.
My favorite story about this song, a good friend many years older than I, started college at FSU in the Fall that this song came out. He said it was playing everywhere on campus. He said every time he hears it it brings him back to that first year of college. Happy memories that last a lifetime.

@Sound Logic we do and both of those to us say u got suga in the tank.. LOL True old school Im 53
Yeah just about everyone lost their sense of style in the seventies..... lol x
And it was a start of representing culture.
Their drummer, Phillip Bailey, also worked with Phil Collins with a song called "Easy Lover"! Check that out!
im in my 30's & never knew that. Thank you for letting me know. I love this channel for that!
Loved that song, always made me want to dance
"Easy Lover" was a fav of mine. It was on Phillip Bailey's solo album "Chinese Wall". Phil Collins produced much of if not all that album and you can hear it in the drums and so forth. Phil Collins does some background vocals on a few of the tracks. The "Easy Lover" video was a lot of fun to watch, those two were just having fun. If you ever saw Genesis video "Turn it on Again", it's a similar kind of video, just following musicians getting ready for performance. Great stuff that it's a shame people forgot about.....
AWESOME song!!!!
Phillip Bailey is not a drummer.
Their style..
The Lead Singer Maurice passed. It was his group. He wrote for many. Very talented. R I L Mr. White..
The band is still around though with Maurice's brother and the bassist Verdine and the falsetto guy Philip Bailey as the current lead singer.
@@banninghamma The falsetto was Philip Bailey. :)
@@banninghamma Yes, they're still touring! The world still needs them!
The 70's & 80's had those horns and it really kicked soo many songs up a notch !! Fact.
Those were simply their costumes, they had a space theme going on, like taking you to another universe, it was the 70''s, the lead singer died about 5 years ago
They did the whole Wakanda hyperfuturist African vibe way before the MCU
Honestly, you could have just said "it was the 70s," and that would have been enough.
Costumes aside, their musicology was top notch. Their music was not synthesized, they had a horn section!!! Their voices meshed wonderfully with each other.
This channel's guys don't care. They're content farming for views and $...their audience is obviously trivial to them.
Thats so sad😢
I’m gonna recommend listening to Cameo’s “Word Up.” One of the biggest hits of the 80s.
Haha, and the Korn cover version too.
Oh yeah! And Candy 🍬
To bad you didn't get a chance to see there live show was outstanding disappearing on stage and be in the audience
Word up! Yes! And yes, you gotta mention the red cod piece. 😁
YESSSSS! C’mon baby, tell me, what’s the word? Oh, word up! ❤️
Impossible to sit still when Earth Wind and Fire are playing!
Earth Wind and Fire were ahead of their time! Nobody wore what they wore or sang what they sang but they were respected and loved! Their music was always loved and still is today!
Kool & The Gang were their peers
Definitely need to react to Brick House by The Commodores.
YESSSSS!!!!!!!
And Ohio Players, FIRE
I was JUST thinking that! Agree!
Pamela Archer YES!
Yes! In fact, that’s the song that immediately came to my mind when I clicked on this one.
I am SHOOK that y'all have never heard this song! It's one of my faves and cookout classic. ❤️❤️❤️
I've heard it all my life but didn't know the song title. The 70s had good music but insane fashion
Crazy! Great dance music
@@kat1984 it's the bomb!
I’m convinced that if you’re gonna play Earth Wind and Fire, you deserve to have the AUX cord for the whole cookout.
They are young! This is the new generation. Just grateful thay are taking time to listen to a DIVERSE GENRE!
Because of this song September 21 is ‘Earth, Wind and Fire Day’
My mom's birthday is on the 21st of September and I post this on her Facebook page every year.
wes1179 my son’s do the same for me!
And my birthday! It's the only way my ex-husband remembered it.
You always call the gear these old bands be wearing "clothes". These were "costumes" to fit the theme of the albums they were currently on. EWF was into the stars and metaphysical realities.
💯💯💯
@@jamesrawlins735 I Am is one of my favorites by EWF.

Earth Wind and Fire were known for their style. They were one of the hottest groups back in the day. There isn't one song that stands out. Parliament and Funcadelic were unique in style as well.
i didn't even know it was possible for someone to not know this song...this is one of those classics you know just by being alive lol!!
Same, as a kid I used to make my step dad keep replaying it and Fantasy in the car (can't remember if he had both burned onto the same disc or not but they were the only songs I wanted to hear on the cd lol)
I know really!!!!
This song will cause goosebumps even in the year 2400.

Be careful about how you use the word "discover". Many of these artists had been performing Long before Clive Davis came along.

Yes! You and I were thinking the same thing! I just posted asking them to respond to Boogie Shoes! 💃🕺
EW&F put KC to shame. Hmm...every song I write is gonna have one line that I repeat. Over and over. One line. Hmmmm...Every song.

They should re air Soul Train
Do a react to Soul Train!
Ya'll need to listen to "Shinning Star" by this group! They are R&B royalty, ya'll!
I saw EW&F in Atlanta a few years ago. These guys are old. You’d have never known it by their performance. Their singing was perfect. The dancing was still there. Respect!

These are stage costumes from the 70s. Nobody was wearing all this glitter on a regular day.

I fully agree with you. Love their reactions to music I grew up with, this one especially.
Agreed. I have been a teacher for two decades, so you can't take what teenagers say personally. They are just being themselves. Truth be told though, what were we thinking with those outfits?!
Facts King
Yes Sir. And teenage men goof and talk s***. And I am sure Phil Collin's love's the exposure they got for him 39 years after his hit song!
This proves that video really did kill the radio star. Just because of these obviously dated 70's clothing, EWF would have never been given the chance today even they could DESTROY any of the BS that passes as music today.
