shes not as fundamentally broken. Just aatrox with more dashes, less cc, slightly different abilities, and a skillshot engage ult. K’sante is a “tank” with mobility, damage, as a TANK. It just doesn’t fit into the game. She does.

Dashes are what people tend to lean into. So riot supplies for the demand. Most if the people crying about mobility creep, ironically, also love the same champs that have it. They only hate facing it, which is....questionable, imo

What I really fear about Ambessa is her advantage state and neutral. Sure she doesn't have 200 years worth of stuff jammed into her kit but I fear the play patern she will bring is a problem. She gives out master yi vibes when it comes to advantage state, once she has the upper hand you are pretty much dead, there is no escaping and seeing how much she can regen energy and stay on target I really fear the fact that 1 mistake might be all it takes for you to get 0 to death. That alone wouldn't be a problem but when you see that she has both a sustainable way to dash in and out and pretty generous area coverage while getting a shield it really feels like she has a neutral game, and a good one at that... What makes hyper mobiles champs like Kalista, lucian or kai'sa balanced, or rather, not overbearing, is the fact that they are glass cannons, with very limited sustain/bulk and lockdown. Ambessa is a bruiser! And that comes with lower damage sure but also much, much higher survivability without counting the ult that can just bypass the main goal of teamfights, aka getting to the backline to shut down the ennemy carry! Sure she'll be hard to play but look at k'sante. It's not an excuse.
This champ cant tower dive cause of her time to kill and only average shield. Treat her like darius, when the lane is long and the minions are just now starting to push from their tower, just back off and let it slow push into you. She cant force kills on you if you respect her run down potential.
@@BloodDrenched-y6i she can't force kills but if you can't trade with her it means you'll be a lot under tower. And giving up priority to her will make your jungler basically unable to threaten topside objectif cause if the toplaner has a turret the jungler sure doesn't. But I get what you mean.

So even though she didn’t feel strong to you, I guarantee what’s going to happen is her numbers will be buffed for release. Numbers aren’t what makes a champion’s kit 200 years imo. It’s having 4 dashes in your basic abilities, built in % armor pen and Omnivamp, no real struggle with resources during active combat, and an ult that punishes a standard approach to combat like having front liners stand in front of carries. Just because her numbers are low doesn’t mean she’s not going to be a pain in the butt to play against.
You haven't even had an opportunity to do so lol. Her having energy and fairly long cooldowns after her first rotation provides plenty of opportunity to punish her. She can't run away that easily due to the energy, since she'll run out.
Yeah, she will probably be strong, but not gamebreaking, on release. Then people will learn how to play against her, so her winrate will drop to mediocre and she will get buffed to compensate. Then pros will pick her up and she will get the Zeri treatment for the next 3 years cause her kit is too overloaded.
dashing a lot doesn't make a champ over tuned, its whether or not you can fight them. Do they have weaknesses? This champ is weak to being statchecked, is vunerable to being engaged on and has a playstyle similar to riven where she has to snowball or be useless.
Looks like her burst and damage is actually really low as a cost to her mobility. If that is actually how it turns out I think she is well designed, but I feel like she will just turn into every other mobile champion, if their dmg is low they will just get buffed until they have decent damage.
Her damage really isn't low. People are building bruiser on her when her kit and scalings say lethality. Lethality Ambessa can 100-0 a squishy in an instant.
Definitely more fair than Yone. At least she doesn’t get a shield for half her health on one swing, knock ups, an ult that engages and escapes, and like 25% move speed so you can’t run.
The howling abyss healing nerf is for ally healing effects Self healing I believe is unaffected, otherwise characters like mundo and aatrox would feel significantly too weak.
@@bayanzabihiyan7465 yes, self healing isn't nerfed, but lifesteal and omnivamp is. And ambessa has her healing scaling of lifesteal and it isn't that big so she's either healing from lifesteal on auto attack nor she heals from R passive BC it is meant for teamfights more than 1v1
Ambessa was perfectly designed for Wild Rift. After Kalista released in WR her passive is very comfortable to trigger in joysticks making her very popular and easy to master.
in fairness Kalista is entirely why some people are worried. Kalista's had to be nerfed into oblivion because of pro players basically abusing the champion until riot was forced to make them nonviable.
Kalista would be average at most, 10 years of game evolution transformed the feared "ADC with a lot of dashes" into just another ADC, she would still be inferior to Kaisa and friends and only picked in situations where the bot needs a strong early

Thank you for making a thought out run down of the champ. i get it she is being memed on, but the amount of people just saying she is broken from just reading abilities and not stopping to think about her weakness, which there are a lot of has been goofy. I always love the stance you take one champions when doing these kinds of videos, keep it up
Her kit looks intense, but her gameplay overall feels just fine. No weird interactions, very straightforward, and you can easily manage her by changing her stats. I'm glad that she's released after the durability patch. She would be on a k'sante level if she had even higher stats and damage.

If you think of it as something exclusive to Ionia, it's sad, but Noxus as a region having a champion with energy is acceptable and necessary for the lore.
To be a nerd and crunch some numbers I’ve calculated out the damage of her Q if you’re fighting a full build Ornn (5.4k HP, 555 Armor, and 267 MR for reference with Jak’Sho stacked). The build I’ve used for Ambessa is Trinity, Cleaver, Shojin, Sundered Sky, DD, and whatever boots you need for the sake of this example I used Steel Caps. You end up with 335 AD, 1.14 AS, 193 Armor, 67 MR, 60 AH (85 on basic abilities), and 380 MS. You end up with with a total damage ratio of 602 + 27.4% max health physical damage across both of her Q charges. Once you fully stack BC you knock the armor on Ornn down to ~390 so you’ve successfully reduced his 85% physical damage negation to 80%. Multiply that 390 Armor by the 30% pen of her passive and you end up with 273 Armor (73% physical damage reduction). With that we can finally calculate her best case scenario total ratio on Q assuming you and Ornn both full build decide to duke it out. Ambessa ends up with a total Q ratio of 138 + 6.3% max health physical damage. So tanky bois it’ll take her a while, other bruises with ~50% physical damage negation it’s gonna hurt but probably not completely nuke you, and ADCs/ Mages as usual it’s gonna hurt like a lot. Also for those of you need to skill shots to fight back like Ornn ult in this example good luck.
Riven if she came out in 2024 be like: If Ambessa wants you to fight her head on then they should make it so she cannot dash back with her passive. Having her passive "work less good" when it is going away from the enemy is like saying Akali passive is not a way for her to avoid interaction between melee champions. And her ult gives her passive combat stats, more then what Pantheon get from his non-combat ult.
I think people are just overreacting to the whole dash in every ability “200 year” mentality when looking how she supposed to play in game, it reminds me of Kled. All the abilities want you to GO IN or DIE TRYING. With Ambessa she has the extra damage, shield, life gain and energy to help you get in and possibly survive the fight
She's also trivial to kite. If you dodge her abilities and don't let her autoattack she runs out of energy and didn't do any damage. If you can't kite you're dog and shouldn't complain. And yes, imagine, she can't just waste her abilities to dash on top of you without hitting them on you... She will fucking die if she does that.

And it's not like a half-decent Ambessa will be running at you straightforward to start the fight. She is a skirmisher. Either she picks you off or she lets someone initiate and follows through, and by then she is already on you.
I feel like she'll be one of those champions who is OP when her numbers (base stats/damage/CDs/etc.) are good, and will never get played when her numbers aren't good.
I think the noticeable lack of damage is a decent trade off. For almost every thing else, except maybe make the Armor Pen scale so at 6 it's just kinda decent but if the game is long enough for her hit 16 then make it actually threatening. The scalings on her abilities are 'okay' at best so she'll likely be building health and AD, with minimal Armor and MR
The reason Kalista is difficult is because she's a squishy adc with no self peel and positioning is critical. Also having to juggle between dashing, attack moving and clicking the enemy since the dashing is tied to her autos. A bruiser having a dashing passive after an ability is not really difficult to play.
Spoke like a true bronze, it's trivial to spam auto -> move, don't even have to move your mouse. Biggest difficulty of kalista is she has only 2 abilities in soloQ

From my point of view, I would say that all of her problems lies on her ultimate. It is a long range dash with a free armor penetration and scaling spell vamp.
The problem is the amount of dashes. There's nothing you can do about champions with billions of dashes unless you main a champion that gets an unreasonable amount of mobility too
Interestingly enough, I don't see her dashes as a problem. Back when I play ML:BB (yes, I brought this game in this context), I remember playing with and against this character named Ruby back in 2017-2018 who has a similar tactic of dashing after ability cast. She isn't exactly a problem at the time. Granted, both games have their own design philosophy. But it seems like Ambessa can exist without being 200 years when handled properly. Also, Ruby can only dash 3 times total, can't life steal through basic attacks, and no long range dash. Thou, she has 2 hard crowd controls.

I don't think she will be Overpowered but I do think she deconstructs the idea that bruisers are strong yet immobile like darius. She has a lot of Mobility, Max HP damage, Armor penetration, Omnivamp, Shields, Range, CC, etc. I think that unlike other champions with a lot of mobility die quick when they are caught while Ambessa is still a bruiser
@@templeofdelusion Funny that you mention that, Ambessa can easily dodge every single Xerath Q if she plays her cards right, and unlike Xerath she regains her resources much faster(Sure Xerath has it's passive, but it still slower than Ambessa's energy recover and if Xerath goes to auto a minion he exposes himself to being dashed into her) Also another funny thing is you mention Xerath zoning her but we both know they won't be played against each other often, Xerath is best at Mid/Supp(Sometimes ADC), Ambessa is clearly a top laner(Maybe Jungler?) she's not meant to counter ranged champions.
I think if they remove her Ultimate Passive, she seems not too crazy, I still think K'sante seems worse, but the healing & armour pen seems unnecessary
for a bruiser with absolutely no other survival mechanic besides a mediocre shield its completely neccesary, if she didnt have sustain she would be forced into degenerate lethality builds cause lack of sustain means she would need to end fights fast and since her only source of tank busting is Q sweetspots the armor pen prevents her from having the riven problem where buying steel caps in lane destroys her completely
Infinite dashes, omnivamp and armor pen just for existing. Meanwhile Briar has the ability to self taunt and int, Blitzcrank slows himself down and Nasus has a passive with less than 10 words.

I’m actually laughing at “halfway across the lane” when in reality renekton dashes like 1/8th of the lane and it’s conditional, as well as being a long ass cooldown. Cope harder 😂

idk what u mean abt no frontloaded dmg, i've been playing her on pbe with lethality e max bc her e has higher ad ratio by rank up to 80%, so with two casts that's a 160% ad ratio. not too shabby
Hot take, Ambessa is good design. Yeah, her lane phase is going to be rough, but she has clear weaknesses and clear strengths. She doesn't want to poke. She wants to fight. I can see her as a jungler, with tons of mobility to move through the jungle, aoe attacks to clear, but needs 6 to follow up on lane cc for ganks
She's so balanced, they really tried to make the best champion they could off of the Arcane success. This is that great champion I always wanted to main. She's weak as hell in the early game, and you MUST master her to be a good Ambessa player. 10/10 new main.
I dont know that she's perfectly balanced but the people screaming "200 years riot!!!" just aren't even thinking. Im excited too even if shes a little over or undertuned!

As an ADC main this champ looks like absolute hell. Basically unlimited dashes means you can't ever get close. Even with Champs like Jax, sylas, etc you usually can just stay away until they use their mobility. I think it's probably like playing against bruiser Katarina where she can always jump on top of you and you can never kill her. At least she doesn't have cc or cc immunity... Although I'm half expecting she can buffer with her jumps

The average ADC has between 500-600 range. So 3 dashes guarantee to close that gap and she has 3 unconditional dashes + a fourth if she hits her q. Even if you just run away and dodge every skill shot, the only way you can escape is Ambessa making a mistake. It's like kiting a lvl 16 Kassadin
Having played Ambessa myself, I find I completely agree with pretty much everything in the video. On paper she looks completely broken and unfair. In practice, everything in her kit feels justified to exist, even the omnivamp. She could use a tone-down but it’s been about 48 hours now and she’s already been nerfed three times.
It's only OP in bronze's head. Even if she dashes 7 times, lee sin Q can cover greater distance, faster, with less skill involved, easier, and he can even cancel it at any time. Lee sin can build full lethality and kill an adc in 0.5s, ambessa will just drop dead if she builds full damage.
Honestly it looks like she'll need a buff. Not a nerf. But seeing as shes a high skill cap champ, its best to not touch her at all until we've had a few weeks with her so people can learn how to play as and against her.
Forgive me if im wrong but we still dont know a lot about ambessa, so it's entirely possible. She has a very unique way of fighting, and the unprecedented green coloring on her outfit is definitely implying there's more to her i think.
It's really weird that a lot of people compared her with K'sante, when my first thought was also that she looked more like an evolved, more modern Riven, so seeing the combination of her with Sylas seems really fitting. I too, feel a bit weird about the healing, although the base amount is not hat high, what I feel interesting and very dangerous if not balanced correctly, is the fact that the omnivamp scales out of Lifesteal. I guess is to incentivize players to build Ravenous, maybe Bloodthirster, hell, maybe even BoRK. Although I also advocate that the healing may be a bit of an extra on her kit and she should be fine if they removed or reworked it, The passive itself sounds more fitting for a rune or item, I'm not sure about how it could be implement to not break the game, but having a way to give AD caster bruisers a way to build lifesteal and let them turn it into omnivamp sounds really cool, specially now that there are basically no Omnivamp items (at least not ones that just give you the stat out of the blue, without needing it to be enabled by certain conditions).

Would be good to have increased hitbox for skillshoots based champs with no mobility, like items for mages or true-tanks that increases your abilities hitboxes.
In the time I've played her on PBE, she seems rather fair for a champ with that much movement? Just as you said, she doesn't have any hard CC outside of ult and no insane burst like a Riven or Camille does. Also her ult one of the most satisfying to use in the game, blinking behind some unsuspecting mage or ADC and fucking their shit up is so cool.
I just wish they did a bit more with her weapon type. Also considering how she came across in Arcane, very grounded, strong and firm, making her a dashing champ makes no sense to me. I wish they did something more unique instead of "another dash" champ. Also I think a better character to have added to the game would've been Silco. I'm sensing a bit of Riot buy-out in this video.

As much as I love Ambessa and do think she is a great choice of arcane character for the game, I honestly would have preferred Sevika, we see a lot more from her at least so far and her fighting style and chemtech arm would have been really cool to play around with in game. But I guess we’ll probably see a lot more Ambessa in season 2 and probably less Sekiva, so the choice probably makes more sense after we get to see her fight in the show, but I really think adding Sevika was a missed opportunity
I cringed when I first saw her, but after I saw some gameplay (it was on summoners rift) she in fact doesn't seem overloaded. She will just be annoying to face. Nobody likes this kind of champs and yet riot can't help but add more of them despite all the backlash. I'm starting to think they might despise their playerbase and are doing this on purpose.
Or they know that for as much as people loeath Yasuo or Yone they are still much more played thatn Skarner or Yorick. The backlash is very petulant because I hate Yone and while i've like 2 skins on him i haven't played a single game with him since release... But some people main the man and complain about him. Riot knows this, they release the power fantasy champ so people buy her skins and use it a lot. Simple as that.

Riot removes aatrox double dash but gives ambessa infinite dashes makes sense. Gonna be fun never landing a Q vs this champ.

You haven't even had an opportunity to do so lol. Her having energy and fairly long cooldowns after her first rotation provides plenty of opportunity to punish her. She can't run away that easily due to the energy, since she'll run out.
Yeah, she will probably be strong, but not gamebreaking, on release. Then people will learn how to play against her, so her winrate will drop to mediocre and she will get buffed to compensate. Then pros will pick her up and she will get the Zeri treatment for the next 3 years cause her kit is too overloaded.

dashing a lot doesn't make a champ over tuned, its whether or not you can fight them. Do they have weaknesses? This champ is weak to being statchecked, is vunerable to being engaged on and has a playstyle similar to riven where she has to snowball or be useless.

Looks like her burst and damage is actually really low as a cost to her mobility. If that is actually how it turns out I think she is well designed, but I feel like she will just turn into every other mobile champion, if their dmg is low they will just get buffed until they have decent damage.
Her damage really isn't low. People are building bruiser on her when her kit and scalings say lethality. Lethality Ambessa can 100-0 a squishy in an instant.
We had dashes in 2 abilities, even dashes in 3 but never we had a dash in passive, truly an accomplishment for the 200 years team

in fairness Kalista is entirely why some people are worried. Kalista's had to be nerfed into oblivion because of pro players basically abusing the champion until riot was forced to make them nonviable.
Kalista would be average at most, 10 years of game evolution transformed the feared "ADC with a lot of dashes" into just another ADC, she would still be inferior to Kaisa and friends and only picked in situations where the bot needs a strong early

Thank you for making a thought out run down of the champ. i get it she is being memed on, but the amount of people just saying she is broken from just reading abilities and not stopping to think about her weakness, which there are a lot of has been goofy. Her kit looks intense, but her gameplay overall feels just fine. No weird interactions, very straightforward, and you can easily manage her by changing her stats. I'm glad that she's released after the durability patch. She would be on a k'sante level if she had even higher stats and damage.

If you think of it as something exclusive to Ionia, it's sad, but Noxus as a region having a champion with energy is acceptable and necessary for the lore.
To be a nerd and crunch some numbers I’ve calculated out the damage of her Q if you’re fighting a full build Ornn (5.4k HP, 555 Armor, and 267 MR for reference with Jak’Sho stacked).
The build I’ve used for Ambessa is Trinity, Cleaver, Shojin, Sundered Sky, DD, and whatever boots you need for the sake of this example I used Steel Caps. You end up with 335 AD, 1.14 AS, 193 Armor, 67 MR, 60 AH (85 on basic abilities), and 380 MS.
You end up with with a total damage ratio of 602 + 27.4% max health physical damage across both of her Q charges. Once you fully stack BC you knock the armor on Ornn down to ~390 so you’ve successfully reduced his 85% physical damage negation to 80%. Multiply that 390 Armor by the 30% pen of her passive and you end up with 273 Armor (73% physical damage reduction).
With that we can finally calculate her best case scenario total ratio on Q assuming you and Ornn both full build decide to duke it out. Ambessa ends up with a total Q ratio of 138 + 6.3% max health physical damage.
So tanky bois it’ll take her a while, other bruises with ~50% physical damage negation it’s gonna hurt but probably not completely nuke you, and ADCs/ Mages as usual it’s gonna hurt like a lot. Also for those of you need to skill shots to fight back like Ornn ult in this example good luck.

If Ambessa wants you to fight her head on then they should make it so she cannot dash back with her passive. Having her passive "work less good" when it is going away from the enemy is like saying Akali passive is not a way for her to avoid interaction between melee champions. And her ult gives her passive combat stats, more then what Pantheon get from his non-combat ult.

I think people are just overreacting to the whole dash in every ability “200 year” mentality when looking how she supposed to play in game, it reminds me of Kled. All the abilities want you to GO IN or DIE TRYING. With Ambessa she has the extra damage, shield, life gain and energy to help you get in and possibly survive the fight
She's also trivial to kite. If you dodge her abilities and don't let her autoattack she runs out of energy and didn't do any damage. If you can't kite you're dog and shouldn't complain.
And yes, imagine, she can't just waste her abilities to dash on top of you without hitting them on you... She will fucking die if she does that.

I feel like she'll be one of those champions who is OP when her numbers (base stats/damage/CDs/etc.) are good, and will never get played when her numbers aren't good.
I think the noticeable lack of damage is a decent trade off. For almost every thing else, except maybe make the Armor Pen scale so at 6 it's just kinda decent but if the game is long enough for her hit 16 then make it actually threatening. The scalings on her abilities are 'okay' at best so she'll likely be building health and AD, with minimal Armor and MR

The reason Kalista is difficult is because she's a squishy adc with no self peel and positioning is critical. Also having to juggle between dashing, attack moving and clicking the enemy since the dashing is tied to her autos.
A bruiser having a dashing passive after an ability is not really difficult to play.
Spoke like a true bronze, it's trivial to spam auto -> move, don't even have to move your mouse.

From my point of view, I would say that all of her problems lies on her ultimate.
It is a long range dash with a free armor penetration and scaling spell vamp.
As for the build, I can imagine her building 2 or 3 AD items and then go for tank items afterwards.

Back when I play ML:BB (yes, I brought this game in this context), I remember playing with and against this character named Ruby back in 2017-2018 who has a similar tactic of dashing after ability cast. She isn't exactly a problem at the time.
Granted, both games have their own design philosophy. But it seems like Ambessa can exist without being 200 years when handled properly. Also, Ruby can only dash 3 times total, can't life steal through basic attacks, and no long range dash. Thou, she has 2 hard crowd controls.

I don't think she will be Overpowered but I do think she deconstructs the idea that bruisers are strong yet immobile like darius. She has a lot of Mobility, Max HP damage, Armor penetration, Omnivamp, Shields, Range, CC, etc. I think that unlike other champions with a lot of mobility die quick when they are caught while Ambessa is still a bruiser

Hot take, Ambessa is good design. Yeah, her lane phase is going to be rough, but she has clear weaknesses and clear strengths. She doesn't want to poke. She wants to fight. I can see her as a jungler, with tons of mobility to move through the jungle, aoe attacks to clear, but needs 6 to follow up on lane cc for ganks
She's so balanced, they really tried to make the best champion they could off of the Arcane success. This is that great champion I always wanted to main. She's weak as hell in the early game, and you MUST master her to be a good Ambessa player. 10/10 new main.

As an ADC main this champ looks like absolute hell. Basically unlimited dashes means you can't ever get close. Even with Champs like Jax, sylas, etc you usually can just stay away until they use their mobility.
I think it's probably like playing against bruiser Katarina where she can always jump on top of you and you can never kill her.
At least she doesn't have cc or cc immunity... Although I'm half expecting she can buffer with her jumps
Her dashes are short and she has no CC, easy to kite for any ADC who isn't as hardstuck as you.

Let's say her dash range is 200 per dash (that's about half of Renektons dash range and a low estimate). The average ADC has between 500-600 range. So 3 dashes guarantee to close that gap and she has 3 unconditional dashes + a fourth if she hits her q.
Even if you just run away and dodge every skill shot, the only way you can escape is Ambessa making a mistake. It's like kiting a lvl 16 Kassadin
Having played Ambessa myself, I find I completely agree with pretty much everything in the video. On paper she looks completely broken and unfair. In practice, everything in her kit feels justified to exist, even the omnivamp. She could use a tone-down but it’s been about 48 hours now and she’s already been nerfed three times.

Even if she dashes 7 times, lee sin Q can cover greater distance, faster, with less skill involved, easier, and he can even cancel it at any time.
Lee sin can build full lethality and kill an adc in 0.5s, ambessa will just drop dead if she builds full damage.
Honestly it looks like she'll need a buff. Not a nerf.
But seeing as shes a high skill cap champ, its best to not touch her at all until we've had a few weeks with her so people can learn how to play as and against her.

It's really weird that a lot of people compared her with K'sante, when my first thought was also that she looked more like an evolved, more modern Riven, so seeing the combination of her with Sylas seems really fitting.
I too, feel a bit weird about the healing, although the base amount is not hat high, what I feel interesting and very dangerous if not balanced correctly, is the fact that the omnivamp scales out of Lifesteal. I guess is to incentivize players to build Ravenous, maybe Bloodthirster, hell, maybe even BoRK.
Although I also advocate that the healing may be a bit of an extra on her kit and she should be fine if they removed or reworked it, The passive itself sounds more fitting for a rune or item, I'm not sure about how it could be implement to not break the game, but having a way to give AD caster bruisers a way to build lifesteal and let them turn it into omnivamp sounds really cool, specially now that there are basically no Omnivamp items (at least not ones that just give you the stat out of the blue, without needing it to be enabled by certain conditions).

In the time I've played her on PBE, she seems rather fair for a champ with that much movement? Just as you said, she doesn't have any hard CC outside of ult and no insane burst like a Riven or Camille does. Also her ult one of the most satisfying to use in the game, blinking behind some unsuspecting mage or ADC and fucking their shit up is so cool.

I just wish they did a bit more with her weapon type. Also considering how she came across in Arcane, very grounded, strong and firm, making her a dashing champ makes no sense to me. I think the most concerning part of her kit, for me, is the name of her ult. Just for the implications it has on Arcane season 2.
As much as I love Ambessa and do think she is a great choice of arcane character for the game, I honestly would have preferred Sevika, we see a lot more from her at least so far and her fighting style and chemtech arm would have been really cool to play around with in game. But I guess we’ll probably see a lot more Ambessa in season 2 and probably less Sekiva, so the choice probably makes more sense after we get to see her fight in the show, but I really think adding Sevika was a missed opportunity

I cringed when I first saw her, but after I saw some gameplay (it was on summoners rift) she in fact doesn't seem overloaded. She will just be annoying to face.
