- A documentary on the 2004 Tennis Masters Cup. Not the usual grand slam review DVD but with lots of behind-the-screen-cameos.
Here is the official description:
Unprecedented player access, unique camerawork and a director's fresh perspective on professional tennis highlight the ATP documentary, Tennis Masters Cup Uncovered II: Facing Federer.
Facing Federer is a compelling look at the personalities and events surrounding the 2004 Tennis Masters Cup, the prestigious $4.45 million tournament circuit finale won by Roger Federer.
That was almost 13 years ago, all the guys except Federer have ritered since then, but he's still playing on tour and has won 2 majors this year. This is just crazy.
They are all retired now, except Federer, who is still number one in 2018.
This is so much more better than any of the Break Point episodes. Even though Novak and Rafa aren't there
Here we are in 2017. Every single person in this Masters Cup is retired, and Roger won the Australian Open and Wimbledon for his 18th and 19th Grand Slams. The man is undoubtedly the greatest tennis player of all time
He was able to defend his title and attain a 20th grand slam to his name. :)
tell that to nadal and nole dicksuckers
Ye they will get so salty
According to slamandjam2. Federer is currently the greatest, no doubt. But Nadal and Djokovic probably need one good year to surpass him.
Stop Press.. only Djokovic left now & still winning yearly multiple Slams, 23 & counting..
That was 13 years ago and Federer just won 2017 Australian Open... great documentary, a piece of history now. It's nice to see what's going on behind the scenes
13 years later and Federer just won the Australian Open against Nadal! Best player the sport has ever seen!
The GOAT is Nadal who leads Federer 9-3 in Grand Slams (including 4-3 outside clay). Also, Nadal has his Grand Slams more evenly distributed by surface than Federer. Nadal has won at least 2 GS on each surface (grass, hard or clay). Federer only has won 1 GS on clay. With those numbers, Federer can't be seriously considered the GOAT.
Mate, free yourself and enjoy the game
Marcos Villavicencio lol Roger just won yet another GS, his 20th!!! Where was Nadal? H2H means nothing when Rafa can't make it to a final to challenge Roger except on clay. Give it up. Federer is GOAT.
Nadal has lost all matches against Dustin Brown!! Should we judge him by his performance against just one player?
Marcos Villavicencio you are dreaming. Nadal has 16 slams, 10 French and 6 on the three others. Federer has 8 Wimbledons and 12 other slams. Federer's slams are way way more evenly distributed. Get a grip man. And of course, Federer has been number one for almost double the time Nadal has.
This tournament is just below the slams in terms of prestige. Federer has won it 6 times from 10 finals. Nadal has never won it.
I've watched this video like 150 times
It’s 2019 .. all of them are gone except Federer. Not only he’s still playing, he also still winning titles.
Seeing this 13 years later is truely amazing. The 🐐 is still showing the others who is the best of the game.
Lena Berger
He has still got 4 good years in him.
And 4 to 6 majors.
Is he the goat tho
Regardless of who you support, everyone who is a real tennis fan, has to appreciate and be grateful to be watching this guy! He has brought so much to the sport and is not done yet. Truely remarkable!
well I was born in 1987 and many would say that I associate with the Rafa/Djokovic era but I've been watching tennis ever since 1993 and then eventually found a long term tennis idol in Roger when he beat Sampras in Wimbledon 2001, time has flown and its 2017 and we're still going strong. Thanks Rog its been an amazing ride and I don't want it to end.
Thank you. Let's pray for Roger to play great as long as possible.
That doesn't mean he was performing at the same level as 2004-2007. It's a testament to his greatness that he was still competitive on tour after 2007 despite all his main rivals being 5 years younger than him.
This man has seen and been through so many ups and downs but his brilliance is tht despite losing repeatedly to Nadal and Djokovic u can never actually write him off, . He'll still rise and he still kicks ass!!
Am searching for you on Cloud 9 :P .... Somewhere near me in 2017 :P ........Cheers
fast forward many years, Federer is still on top. Still winning Grand slams. And ... no longer a might be, but definitely the greatest player the sport has ever seen.
miss these tennis players of old... roddick, hewitt, safin, etc.
Playing from one generation to another and another! He is the true spirit of tennis! Amazing.
this documentary is brilliant, I'd love to see the ATP tour finals documented like this, imagine Nadal, Djokovic, Federer and Murray all participating in a feature like this
it done
@@KhanhNguyen-lm7lp Netflix?
@@telmolicious laver cup 2022
@@KhanhNguyen-lm7lp There’s a documentary? Or are u tAlking about clips?
Man, Coria just vanished off the face of the earth. Safin was such a great talent.
Coria was torn apart by injuries. Such a great clay master he is
He is still dominating the tour after 14 years and is the heavy favorite to win the Australian Open title.
He was a favorite but not the heavy favorite.
"He looks good.He always looks good. He's a nice guy."
14 years later Federer win his 20th GS in 2018
This is seriously the most awesome Federer videos on UA-cam!! Amazing, you should do it for his other 5 Masters Cups/ATP Finals. lol
can't believe this was 10 years ago

22:12 Mirka talks !
rare :)
Checking in at October 4, 2022. Roger just retired from professional tennis. End of an era. 😢
Damn, today 2014, no sing of all the other 2003 players, Roger still dominating the masters.
Brisbane 2015: Roger won his first title of the year and secure 1000 ATP wins... and I`m again looking at this documentary that I love!
he'll always be number one in my books : )
If Federer was not around then, then it is fair to say that the rest of these guys would have allot more GS's. No one could match him then came along Rafa and Djokavic.
@Gokubleach09 Eh..
Interresting to see yet in 2004 that players felt Federer will be the future GOAT
all these guys from '04 won grand slams... federer nadal and djokovic have put a stranglehold on the slams now with a few exceptions
Jesus....they were all so young !!!!
u r lying, where is ur proof.
I dunno
50:25, "Not bad for an ex-ball boy, who might yet become the greatest player this sport has ever seen".
Federer be like, "Been there, done that"!
what a great documentary... reminds me realy great times. coria, gaudio, saffin, henman, roddick, and obviusly, federer
Can't believe how Fed was seen as not human. he is very human
Damn, ATP really milked Federer's mega popularity. Can't blamed them though, the guy was not just unique on his playstyle, he's pretty charismatic. Its like if you will create the perfect poster boy of tennis, it will be Federer.
He's forever the faced of tennis
Who is watching this today 7/17/17 the day after Roger won Wibledon title #8, GS #19?
13:30
"All security, ANDY RODDICK is on the grounds" 😂😂😂😂
I was at this tournament! Favorite match was Fed vs Hewitt round robin match. Late night match with mist in the air. Was like a dream!
This was Roger at his most intimidating and dominant form then. And 8 years later, Roger is winning against the best players of the current generation - collecting 17 slams, and regaining the world #1 ranking. I don't think he knows the meaning of past your prime. He may well be winning slams into his mid thirties.
drkvenger And you were right!
Who else thinks the commentator voice is rly awesome?
18 years later and Federer is still playing, Let that sink in.......
20 years later federer retired.novak and surpassed federer
Amazing to look at all the players there & think how long ago it was, yet 8 years later Federer is still the World Number 1... Incredible.
It is brilliant! If an ATP executive reads this, produce more of these please!
16 years later Federer still in the top 8❤️
Great documentary!
Eight years on and Federer's back at number 1 :)
Another great documentary on here is "The French", about the 1981 Roland Garos. You get to see all the top tennis players of that time and of course Bjorn Borg being super cool.
Love how they showed Hewitt scouting Federer during his practice.
Now we need another one *Defeating Djokovic* 😎 2015 ATP Finals
Federer's comments="No complaining on the yacht!"
awesome doc really enjoyed watching...
Now in 2018, Still Number 1. Federer is the GOAT God, not just GOAT.
Nowadays 2012 the only one who is stills top ten is Federer.. The best of all times
It's nice they're even taking the Master's cup seriously.
i liked when all these guys were around. now its just federer, nadal and novak that win everything. The competition back then was just great!
excellent video
So much win in this tourny...who knew that a few months later, safin would
beat roger at the AO.
Who knew that 2005 would be the last year hewitt would be relevant on the tour.
10 years later fed is still in the top 8
top 5 and going to vacation up there now!
Wodz30 Federer is #4 now - AGAIN!
I swear this man is really the stuff that DREAMS are made of!!!! He is 32 for Goodness' sake - just f*ing unreal, I tell you! Love Federer now and 4 ever :)
Now is top 3!
Giang Nguyen Make that 2 and closing in on number 1!
Yian Pap yes!! Federer is and always will be better er
what a sweet video, wish there were more like it, especially of Grand Slams
I miss Safin and his unpredictability.
Excellent documentary
Just love this one ! want to see many more these videos !
An amazing documentary ! Thanks !!!
Safin was so good, shame he had no discipline
You talk as if though he never practiced or you know the inside out of his daily life and routine when he played..
Federer talking about fear of not caring much about his wins,he certainly must have never imagined at that stage what lied ahead, the final of Wimbledon 2007 and especially 2008.Hope Rafa and Federer keep pushing each other and the game to new heights and taking us to new heights of delight
I wish they'd make another documentary like this on him
8 years on and Federer is the last man standing in the top ten
great video, i miss them all. a wonderful generation!!!!
Thanks for sharing this video ... is priceless! I never tire of looking at it!
2004! Mad. It didn't hit me how long ago this was until they described Mirka as his "girlfriend"! And clearly she was already his wonderwoman back then 22:20
yes it is ,that smart scheduling meant he keep his body fresh meaning his got the most out of his physical prime that is why at 31 last yr he was able to do what he did but now he has now peaked physically and will only decline however he hasnt lost too much speed. plus his superior court positioning means he doesnt do much defending that good serving, all court skill, and vast experience will kee p around the top for a while. there aren't many guys with rogers skills set.
Not yet. That was his 7th Wimbledon. The ATP World Tour finals won't be held until November this year and I will be there.
this is probably the longest vid ive ever watched on youtube STRAIGHT THROUGH. fed for lyfe
Why don't they make a year-end Masters documentary like this more often? Plz if u gonna do it again ATP do it while Federer is still around!!!
And just the winner of this master continues playing, incredible, the other 7 players are retired, I've seen the master since 2000, fuckin' time haha, next month a new version of this competition...
The credits at the end are done very nice!
Just amazing that 8 years later all the other guys are nowhere near top 10 ranking! And Federer is back to number 1!
won the Australian open after 12 yrs of this documentary
And then Wimbledon. :)
Brilliant Documentary !!!!!!!!!
37:58 - clever subliminal way for organizers to shut down whatever confidence Safin may have had.. 🤨🤔
This video is really fabulous, recently I saw Prince Charles and Camilla watching the match between Federer and Fognini, then saw them going to inside to congratulate Federer, I though. After seeing in this video President Bush and wife greeting the players of that time, I've been able to imagine how the world is inside where the players. Thank you for sharing this gem!
Roger Federer made tennis for you. But tennis champions come & go nobody is bigger than the game. Every big time champion makes his era.
And then comes big 3 era when nadal and novak challenges him.
was good to see the class of 04, thanks
yes he has been at least top three for almost 10 years
amazing documentary... Fedex has been the greatest tennis player of all time and almost perfect in all sense. Best part - 46:33 , watch the message on the hewitt's wall. :)
Start a new chapter, attack him.. lolzz ..It must have been really hard to imagine what are strategies players must be thinking..
in roger´s book, it says that, when he was growing up and he lost at board games and other games, he would be furious, about it..when he lost a tennis match, he would cry his eye´s out, which is something we all know, he does sometimes, to this day...if he loses or wins, at the grand slam´s.
Simply a genius no need for words
Really great documentary 😍
"No I prefer straight sets crushing." LOL!
Wow, I almost forgot how totally hawt Marat Safin is :D And look at him in a suit :P
8 years on and He's still the greatest of all time.
Dude -- what new heights?! Federer is 32 years old, in the twlight of his career and way way past his prime which pretty much ended after 2007.
Is it 3 2014? Are we talking about Fed's way past his prime :P..... 2017 comes yet another slam :P.... Cheers brother :P Never say never if you are a Roger Fan :P
2018 Australian Open Champion, 20 Grand Slams now... time to eat those words now mordhaine :-)
It was probably frustrating to play in prime time Fed era.
TOP TEN? BACK TO NUMBER 1!
"Facing federer" should be a phrase/cliché for the coming generations to refer to a very difficult task :)
Gaudio was not an alternate, he got in because he won the French, and was ranked in the top 20.
imagine switching lives with federer, just for one day... would make my life.
think of that and then him being able to be him every day
Great doc, but there's some BS from 4:01 to 4:03 ....Tim Henman wasn't the only man to beat Federer in that year...Guga did as well in RG
I think it means the only person in the field at Masters Cup to beat him. Rafa beat him that year as well, but he didn't make the top 8.
federer prefers a straight set crushing! lol gotta love his honesty
