Watching this and knowing that I was one of those kids he met in 2004 back in Port Elizabeth, South Africa is one of the best moments I will forever cherish
@@razoo911 I knew his was big but didn't know how big he was at the time as we were being introduced to the sport. I remember being interviewed for a documentary for him but I have never seen it. I wish I could have taken the sport seriously.
what a wonderful human being. you just cant help falling in love with this truly cultured, elegant and charming champion. Hes an asset not just to tennis but to mankind
Aryan Pushkar, McEnroe is one of the biggest Federer fans as well. He views Federer as the GOAT as well, so that hurts even more after knowing that one of the biggest Federer fans had to do the commentary of that match and said those words.
I so much love this man. It's beyond explanation beyond words. Wish he never retires. But up until that moment, let's just enjoy his grace and greatness.
12:14 is one of the most touching things I have ever seen. Given who he is...the expression on his face...to let the boys run thier fingers through his hair. The way he caries him self. The way he brings honor to those around him. He never has a bad thing to say about anyone. And a word on his greatness. At 38 years old (+ or - a few weeks) he beat the number 2 player in the world and then went 6 sets with number 1 having match points against him. Spotting them both 5 or 6 years. Lets see how they are playing 5 or 6 years from now. Forget how many slams they end up having. Like me, there are 10's of millions of people who think Roger Federer is THE greatest athlete of all time and a supreme human being.
I am so in love with him. Binge watching happy Fed content from the hangover of that brutal finals loss at Wimbly 19. He is most beautiful soul. Elegant, classy, graceful, humble...everything. I love you so much Roger. ♥️
We tend to easily associate his supreme talent with godliness and it definitely is! However the fact that he mentions his children don't know his ranking, that he tells his kids how great the others like Rafa and Stan are exemplifies him as a dad and a humble man! ever inspiring! Keep winning Roger !
Carl Federer I think you're right. Fed will keep on improvising and tweeking his game to contend for titles even when 40 if he stays healthy. He's just that good and tennis iq the best.
You think he got where he is just with talent?? His mental strength, athleticism, determination, resilience, etc. champion qualities are vastly underrated
Excellent interview - one intelligent person ( Carrillo ) asking another intelligent person ( Federer) relevant questions; makes for an enjoyable listen
So true! I love Carrillo's smarts. And listening to Roger's candid replies even better. Roger is so articulate in English, it's hard to believe it's not his first language! I'm trying to remember the last time I heard an American athlete express this well. Kudos to Carrillo for the good questions: a rare and truly interesting interview.
We all know his achievements on the court. Together with his off court endeavours and attributes which make him the greatest athlete of our time. I cannot identify another athlete who has been so dominant in their sport, yet lives a life null and void of scandals.
Wonderful relaxed interview. Mary kept smiling all the way through. Such joy. Boy he is a SUPERSTAR but you would never know it. We are so lucky to have watched this man develop over the years. And of course his tennis is virtually the most natural free flowing ever. Wonderful stuff.
It’s taken two weeks for me to watch any of the wash up from the Wimbledon 19 final. Wow that one hurt so much but watching this makes me happy again. Aus open final 2017 was pretty Fkn awesome. He’s just so great in every way.
Such a classy guy and not only is he great on the court he is even greater as a person off the court. Life is governed by both consistency and appreciation. He has both in spades.
Life is certainly not easy with 4 kids, on top is the highly competitive tennis career, an ageing body, adding up all these, still won 2 more Grand Slams, (so far) , Amazing, Super RF.
According to WTO or World Trade Organisation , Switzerland has the highest number of exports in the world in Chocolates and Watches. Toblerone , Rolex , Rado, On Shoes and many other companies which I haven't even heard of . Switzerland if I predict could be the world's largest economy .
I'm a Fed fan since I was about 5 years old, and he's always been my favorite player, but even if he weren't I feel like I'd really like him as a person, because I see a lot of tennis fans, especially Nadal's, they don't see that it doesn't matter if you don't like Roger, he is a great man and we should all respect each other, same goes to Roger fans, we should stop fighting over who is the GOAT and just be thankfull that we get to see these champions playing.
blessed to witness Roger play tennis. I can't imagine any player in the future that can be such a blessing to tennis. You can't invent a better player for any sport.
I fear When Federer leaves Tennis, half of the fans will be gone (( he is that big for tennis! His emotions his passion for the game is huge. What a talent and a person:)
What a great interview,so interesting to hear his comments about his life away from tennis with his projects and his family. Roger is so inspiring as a person as well as the greatest ambassador for his sport,
As he ages I am amazed that in the past few years in all the torunaments he has delivered some unbelievable shots and when you put them together that repertoire wiltel not be ever be matched. He not only communicates with the tennis ball but with the spectators as well sharing his achievements to make them happy and communicate his own triumphs and sportsmen ship with the crowds who come to watch and return satisfied. Wish you many years
I want to say only that the comments below are so insightful, touching and wonderful, all about a man who embodies these characteristics. Quick note about 2018 AO. I was fortunate enough to see the final, in which he defeated Cilic. Was still in Laver Stadium, in the corridor, drinking in what I had just experienced. There was an overhead announcement that Federer will meet with his fans in another court in the arena complex. I could barely hear where it was located but I ran there as fast as I could and made it. He made a statement and took some questions but by far the dominant theme was how much he appreciated and, I think it can honestly be said, loves his fans, not (or at most only partly) because they love him, but because he truly loves them. A beautiful, beautiful moment in my life. How often can you say that about anyone you don’t know personally? Almost never. Or never, except for this one very special human being.
vectorthurm yep... am I the only one who still has dreams about the alternative result in that game.. I wish he’d served down the centre line on match point. Novak was looking out wide.
I’m a Huge Novak fan but as a former competitive junior/college player I have enough respect for Roger to point out that he’s going to be like Tom Brady playing into his 40’s. He might even get to the point where he only plays just enough to qualify for slams. Roger is capable of catching lightning in a bottle over a 2 week period and winning a slam in his 40’s I believe. He’s the only player capable of missing 6 months and immediately winning a slam. Novak took a full season to get back to winning slams after injury. I’m a fan of Novak mostly because his style of play was similar to mine only WAY better. Although, If you played tennis seriously everybody wanted to play like Fed at some point, only it was a bad idea to try it because no one could pull it off. His game transcends pure athletics and there’s an undeniable element of artistic genius to it like he’s Da Vinci with a tennis racquet. That’s why he’s the Goat for me regardless of who ends up with more slams.
I never had any heros I believed in totally coz I believe that different people have different great qualities. But he is one man who has truly exemplified the meaning of what a human being can be and what he can achieve.... The admiration in the interviewer's eyes for Fed!
I was looking for this comment, otherwise, I would write it down.
I was imagining myself interviewing him...

The greatest ambassador the sport has ever had. A very remarkable human being.
What a personality!

Well said. Very perceptive.

Roger and Rafa. What a great rivalry and its even more amazing that they are friends. Two normal guys who happen to be extraordinary at Tennis.
Couldn’t agree more. Tennis is so lucky to have them at the same time. Have there ever been two rivals whose relationship remotely resembles theirs?

Yes, I believe that to be true. No ordinary champion, Mr. Roger Federer; Words don't suffice.
He's really going to have to work hard for 21, but you can never count him out at the fast slams in Australia and Wimbledon
All he needs is to remain focused and don't fall to the pressure. The game is there, is only some mental flaws and insecurities luring.
