One of these calisthenics guys on YT says he was that nerdy guy as a teen that was slim and a little quiet. Now he’s a sexy beast. Literally bigger and more shredded than 95% of men. I love calisthenics and I on the other hand and 36 and just had my 4th child 5 months ago, and basically I need a transformation and my journey has led me to calisthenics and I’m literally just getting started with this video now.

i'm a carpenter and i don't recommend pulling yourself up one of your interior doors because it puts a lot of strain on the hinges. your front door is the only one that MIGHT be able to tank that. but be aware that your body weighs way more than any door in and around your house in 99% of cases.

As a fit man in my 50s, I usually find a woman with a fit physique instantly hot.
Lacking the testosterone, woman find it harder to make muscle. So when a woman keeps going with fitness training in spite of less returns on investment (of effort), this earns my respect.

First video I've seen admitting that it takes a long time to archieve these skills properly. Mostly the instructors give the unrelistic impression to expect fast improvements. Thank you for the good advice to enjoy the long process. That will help significantly to make training a habit of its own.

Well said. I‘m a 50+ guy and I started moderate exercise - but every day - a couple of years ago. I followed an online program, started small and worked up. One exercise I absolutely hated was the humble pushup… I can do a decent number of pushups now but it took about a year to really get them flowing. I found building chest muscle to be really hard. Most fitness things seem to require that 6-12 month time frame. But once you got them, it‘s so good.

8-9 months to do a push-up?? Girl that makes me feel so much better .. I feel like so many fitness instructors/trainers make it out to be this quick process when in reality for most people it takes time.. of course it also depends on current fitness level, genetics, etc etc and so for others it may be quick and easy but for the rest of us it takes a while .. thanks for being up front about this !!

Go lift weights in the gym and you'll have results in just couple weeks. Also you can become much more stronger by lifting weights than doing anything else that is not lifting weights.

    • @SuperUsername147
      @SuperUsername147 2 роки тому +38

@@nihilist1680 you see results in a couple weeks doing this too. It’s just more difficult to see progress because the progressions aren’t measured with a definitive number and progressing from one exercise to another typically involves a significant load difference (certainly not as simple as adjusting in 5lb increments). So progress appears slow. At the end of the day how quickly you progress depends on how good your routine is and whether you can tailor your routine to reach your goals. Neither method is superior. The only muscle group you really can’t hit effectively without weights is the low back, and legs absolutely benefit from weighted exercise over bodyweight alone. But to say that weights build superior strength is just wrong. Strength is relative. A calisthenics athlete may not be able to win in a deadlifting competition, but the average weightlifter can’t do a muscle up, planche, human flag, or single arm pull-up (not without injuring themselves at least). Its a different kind of strength. Weights tend to build larger muscle groups while calisthenics train the large and small muscle groups (less isolation). I think the perfect exercise routine would include both bodyweight and weighted exercises to get the benefits of both.

I watched a video from Squat University where they recommended flexing your shoulders first and then engaging in the pull up. It's a good teaching tool! Still love the tips in this video!

She’s pretty specific about recommending sturdy furniture though so we could be extra careful about trying new moves. Good luck on your journey! 😃🙌

I love how to think outside the box. You are so creative for using existing parts of the home/furniture and turn it into a gym. It's great for people who might feel self-conscious about going to the gym. It's also good now since the pandemic is still ongoing. I love it.

I can not tell you how much your videos have helped me and even motivated more to keep pushing thru!! Its little things here and there that you have educated me on that I have not been able to learn from anywhere else.. and that's made a tremendous difference in my workout routines and eating habits! From the bottom of my heart, thank you!!!

I am an athlete and calisthenics is a whole new experience for me. I found out that ramps help a lot in doing push ups. Those high ramps and low ramps you do? The ones where you align your body to be a straight line and put most of the body weight to your arms. They helped me to do push ups. I first started by trying to hold the two ramp positions for long as I can and then I started to slowly bend down and come back up in the two ramp positions. It helped me a lot to do it this way. I would recommend to start with the low ramps. In a low ramp you put your elbows on the ground instead of your palms.
Thanks for the video it helped a lot.

    This was great video.
The only feedback would be you need to engage your scapula, then pull them down before pulling up.
Also to advance to another level, form a grip so your knuckles are on top of the bar, and squeeze the hell out of your grip as you are pulling up.

A ball ...stack of books etc can be placed under the chest on the ground until strength has been built enough to allow one to lower closer to the floor.....the slow eccentrics and iso holds can assist with the strength building....

I did the same exercises, however I modified it to my own needs. Like doing knuckle push-ups (for Range Of Motion), seated rows/lat pulldown/straight arm pulldown (w/ recycled bike tubes), and hindu push-ups (alt for dips).
