- Scooter rental companies are now flashing their speed controllers with propriety firmware as an anti hacking measure. For scooter hacking enthusiasts, this often means the scooter won't turn on, the scooter applies the brakes when you try to push it forward, or the scooter displays error 10 or 35, or an undefined error.

@@brennerborec3422 Known issue, as stated by OP. Google headlight issue ninebot. Just replace one piece or bridge it, iirc.

If I can make 2 suggestions that may help further: You may want to specify the ST-Link voltage pin 5v or 3.3v
And the other problem ppl will need to fix is "cannot connect to target" from the ST-Link Utility.

Wondering if you could clear something up. When ordering a control board off of Amazon or eBay is it important to get one that says "Pre-Activated" ? ? Or does it matter? I ordered a board that's supposedly Pre-Activated in case I need to replace my board some day.
I was told that even if it isn't Pre-Activated that you can use the serial number shown in the app for the current control board? Where does one enter the serial number?
It would be great if you could make a video like this for basic control board replacement (using basic control boards offered on eBay and Amazon) .

You didnøt remove the capasitor from the PCB that you flashed? it's stil on the pcb.
First you bridge it ad after that the capasitor is back on the pcb?

Hey guys, very helpful tutorial. I bought an old cheap windows laptop for my modding (mac user) but it doesn't have Bluetooth 4.0 so ninebot flasher won't download since I don't have the required hardware. Will a plug in usb 4.0 dongle let me get around this issue? Also can I paypal you a donation?

I have an ninebot e45 that needs a new speed controller, but segway wont sell me one because its out of warranty. i bought one for the E series, installed it. got no error codes, turned on, but no throttle. i cant find a speed controller for it anywhere. i did come across one for an e22 are they compatible? is there anything you can suggest. i have an 800$ door stop, lol thanks in advance.

would it be possible to use one of these controllers on a non ninebot scooter just as a normal esc or do they pair with all the other components e.g battery dash and motor making them not work if they aren't connected to the correct parts.

Hey. Thanks for great video totorial. Just one isue - after reflashing with your dump file and making update to any other software version i do get error 10 after. Same issue on two controllers..

Did you use 3.3v or 5v connected to 'vcc' from the st-link? I can't seem to find that anywhere
@@khlamad Tried 3.3 first but nothing happend, tried 5v and it worked
@@SuperKnoppen I got a error message using 5.0V but changed to 3.3 and then it worked for me.

Hey there. New subscriber and love your content. Quick question. Purchased a nineboot from the auctions, seem to be an ex rental, if I purchased a controller and dashboard off ebay and swapped into the ninebot, would it run? Or do I need to get both flashed? Cheers
You can purchase a new control board and dashboard off eBay but the control board will likely be a cheap clone and it doesn't take too long to just flash both of them and save some money.
Perfect guide! I have another question: is possible to change firmware on external battery (ninebot es2) ? Do you have a guide about it? I had buy one external battery in ebay but dont work! Help
ES2 doesn't have external battery, unless you add it. Then it is ES4 style. You can flash the custom firmware through bluetooth once the ESC is unlocked. You can flash the default firmware upgrades for Dashboard, ESC and Internal/External batteries with the default ninebot app, but not custom firmware, for that you must use something like XiaoFlasher
HI, thanks for your work, I have a ES2 Ninebot with original external battery and like say on the hacking tool (With stock battery voltage (36-42V), the scooter will not go faster than 35km/h at full charge.) You know how to go faster than this 35Km/h? Even in downhill the scooter break itself to go 35km/h, I read that the solution is to connect a serial mode battery to up the voltage, I think to connect de external battery on serial mode modifying the connection, but 74Volts is possible? .

I just bought a ninebot ES4 but not able to turn the Bottom LED lights or control them with the App, it was for a rental Lime. don't even show in the App, with this method it will be possible to control them ?

Clearly, it is the same exact ninebot-segway scooter. Same build, same locations of components.
@@bakarimccoy9865 Clearly .. you were wrong. The SNSC 2.0's have no control board in the shaft but rather on the bottom near the battery.
Oh, somehow I confused (SNSC1.0), without the underdeck lighting. I didn't know you were talking G30/Ninebot Max.

Hi, I have an ex-rental Neuron N3 scooter that had water damage, I bought a new head for it but when I plug it in it says "End of ride blah blah" and won't send power to the drive wheel. My question is, is it possible to re-write the STM32F103RCT6 chip to boot differently or trick it into thinking that it's just starting a ride? I'm going to buy an ST-Link V2 to connect with it but I'm unsure if I'll be able to access it.

I have KUGoo es2 which is similar to ninebot es2. The dashboard got fried and there is no replacement parts available online. Is it possible to use ninebot es2 dashboard with my Kugoo? Is it possible to get it work, looks like the connector are 1 to 1 pretty much

Congrats for this really nice video. May i ask you if it is okay to flash both motherboard and also dashboard and than assemble all together. I'm wondering if it will work since you need to connect them both to PC via bluetooth to finish the installation process. So is it possible to flash them together and not one by one? Thank you.
Unfortunately you need to flash them separately as you can only connect to one Bluetooth device at once.
@@BananaScience Thank you for fast reply. Than I made a little mistake. I wasn't thinking about that and I disassambled the whole scooter than connected dashboard to PC and flashed it - I followed your steps except the last step when you connected it via bluetooth to finish the installation. I did just the same with motherboard - everything without bluetooth step. Can I somehow fix that or will I have to get new working dash/motherboard to get those two going?
@@PCaliph Sorry I'm not quite sure if I understand. The only way you can flash the speed controller with OFW is via the ST Link procedure. You can update it to the most recent update of OFW via the official Bluetooth app however.
@@BananaScience I followed your procedure via the ST Link. I did everything the same as you did except the last phases when you connected speed controller/dashboard via bluetooth and did the final instalation. I have the speed controller/dashboard prepared for bluetooth connection phase but the problem is that both of them (not only one) are now in this stage when they need to be connected via bluetooth - speed controller to change the serial number and dashboard to install the custom firmware. May I assemble them back together and just try to connect to PC via bluetooth to finish these things or is it risky that something would go wrong? Thank you.

so when sorting the wires for flashing with the sT Link do they go 2468 numbered pins on the st link which is all on one side, the wires i got with mine are green, yellow, orange, red, but its not impotant just as long as it matches yours aye,

Does the same mother board work on the ES4 foldable and the non-foldable.
I'm not sure if this what I need. I tried to flash a custom firmware on my Max and now the screen flashes a red #10. I can't power it off or flash any other firmware. The XiaoFlasher shows connected but when I choose a zip and try to flash it a message says I need to connect to the device.

So i bought a few lyfts from a tow yard and rewired them so they are 4 pin flashed and changed the serial number i m getting absolutely no error codes screen works lights work but they wont go . what did i do wrong ?
Please help if you can, with these two problems...I flashed my brand new es4 with the ninebot flasher to this CFW and left everything the way it was set...why does the auto brake kick in when i reach 20 mph? Can't stand it...also my iphone ninebot app keeps asking me to upgrade to new firmware...spoofing is not sticking in CFW?

Hello there I was playing around trying different hacks on my ninebot scooter e22 which I put wrong drive it was for max scooter now my scooter it’s brick it turns on my laptop see it as Bluetooth but when it tells me to press a off bottom to connect I can connect what can I do to fix or what parts I need to by motherboard or just Bluetooth help please

You will need to flash the speed controller as described in this video but you will also need to purchase a new dashboard online as Birds have top mounted tracker boxes.

Hello, when domesticating an ES4 scooter do I have to change the Dashboard too or it is just enough to flash the firmware in the control unit as the video shows?

This depends on what dashboard you have. Most ex-rentals dont have a dashboard, besides Spin, which will show a blank dash. As long as you have a dash, you just need to flash the ESC, and it should work.
@@DR-um2bv This is always an option. These flash procedures are due to security limitations placed by the rental companies, and at times by ninebot.

iirc, Rosin Core solder is best, it comes with flux. Yes, use flux.
How fast can a human actually speak when reading a text and how disconnected is it actually possible to sound? Is there a tax on UA-cam minutes? What's the stress? ;) I'm so thankful you do this bacause I'm reslly stuck since my boards fried like four times and last time I flashed with a Raspberry everything just went bricked and I gave up.

hello folks i need help on a nonebot es4 scooter i just bought. i found out the wires to the handle bar was cut. so i resoldered the wires and i charged the battery and the scooter powers on and i down loaded the app to activate and no acceleration. just sits as i push the throttle. do i have to actual get a running start to activate the wheel as i push on the throttle? sorry folks i'm a dummy with scooters. i would appreciate some words of advice please.
