    Definitely worth a trip, both the roast pork and roast beef are remarkable. Philadelphia is chock full of such businesses. But Tommy DiNic is really a good man. If you want to know a true South Philadelphia Italian, here you go. Down to earth, hardworking, raised by Depression Era immigrants who lived to give their families the American Dream

    Years ago, I had one of these when I was up in Philly for work. I'm still chasing that dragon, because it absolutely knocked my socks off.

    Awesome sandwiches. I was in Philly for 3 days, had the pulled pork, sliced pork and the brisket; one each day.

    Great advice love this video something very comforting about it anyway I never been to Dinic’s Before I always wanted to go but I did follow a couple recipes on how to re-create it and it did come out fantastic especially cooking with garlic rosemary wine and olive oil and other Italian seasonings

    This is the recipe for quick pulled pork. Cut up pork shoulder put it in a pressure cooker. Add 3 cups water, 1 tbs salt, black pepper, garlic and 3 to 4 bay leaves. Cook for 30 minutes at medium heat. Remove from heat and place in a pan. Boil down juice about half way. Pour it over the meat and broil it in the oven both sides until browned. Done. Always tender.

      I have both of my mom's pressure cookers - one from the 50's or 60's and a relatively new one.
      They're great for quick and tender, but low and slow braising or roasting after implanting garlic cloves and other herbs and searing is the only way to get the flavor of mom's or grandma's meals.

    This place is # 3 out of the top best known roast pork sandwiches in Philadelphia. Johns my favorite is # 1, Tony Luke's is # 2 . These are both superior to DiNic's. For a tourist this is the easiest to get to , plus the Reading Market is a cool place to visit.

    Good ingredients. That is all. The other day I had a chicken parm sandwich from a local place in philadelphia and it was inedible. Same price as one of these excellent sandwiches from Dinic's.
    Dinic's always has a queue of people waiting. The other place I was talking about above with the terrible chicken parm sandwich? There's never anyone in there.

    Not sure what the deal was when I went to Dinic's at Reading, but I found the Roast Pork with Broccoli Rabe to be bland and bitter. Pork was dry and flavorless and the rabe tasted like the broccoli was coated in aspirin. All that walking for a big let-down.

    • @izzybaby9852
      @izzybaby9852 9 років тому +2

      Same experience here, I drove there and walked a whole block in the freezing cold. The roast pork is OVERRATED. IT'S NOTHING BUT PAID MARKETING.

      Just in case you ever decided to go back. I'm a regular at Dinic's when I'm in the area and have eaten there for years. And I agree that the roast pork with rab isn't as great as people say it is since it's been on TV. The TRUE regulars of Dinic's (i'm talking people who eat there almost daily on lunch breaks) don't go for the roast pork. They go for the BRISKET (w/provologne and peppers) and PULLED PORK. That's the stuff they always run out of regularly, LONG before the roasted meats go. It's just that people don't know how great these other sandwiches are because they're too infatuated with the basic items. But yeah trust me. Talk to most people who eat there regularly, and a lot will talk more about the brisket than the roast pork.

    i have to say johns is better man, the flavor was much more enjoyable. i find the rabe overpowers the true flavor on meat

    Would never purchase food from places that are too lazy or too cheap to wear hair nets. While doing some work in a large candy plant 50 years ago we even had to wear a hair net while working in warehouse & 3 giant refrigerated boxes.
