  • Today, I ride the very scenic Hurricane Rim mountain bike trail in Hurricane, UT. It is probably the best trail in the Hurricane Cliffs ride region. This trail has some fast downhill segments intersperced with fun technical sections. There are also some amazing views of the Virgin canyon on the northern section of the rim and the Hurricane valley along the western rim. I rode it as a big loop, but it can be ridden out-and-back.

I rode the trail last year, very nice scenic ride right next to the edge of the canyon. Thank you Ron for all your information you put out on all your rides. I try to ride the trails you have ridden because of your content.

Thanks for another good one, Ron! This trail has what I like to call "friendly exposure". You can see the cliff but you're not in any danger. I don't feel the need to risk my very life for the thrill of mountain biking! Anyway, my friend and I will be out there the second week of March to film the True Grit stage race, I may have to hit this one!

Curious, are you riding in the True Grit race? Are you filming for the race organizer or doing your own videos? I’ve ridden all these trails before, but just never strung them together all on one day. Makes for a pretty big day! It’s a very cool idea! I also ride Grand Fondo road races but I’ve never done a MTB race. Got me wondering…

Another great video. I used to ride it on a regular basis and yes it is very fun but very challenging. May go give it another go as it’s been awhile.

Thanks for the compliment Brent! And glad this has motivated you to get out and ride some more! There are so many fun, scenic trails in the region...and don't even get me started on Gooseberry Mesa!

I ride a 2021 Giant Reign, which has an enduro caliber design for steeper and more stable descents. But it’s a little heavier and has 29” wheels so it doesn’t climb as easy as an “all-mountain” style design. I occasionally ride some pretty steep slabs and chutes where the slacker head tube angle helps to prevent from going over the handlebars. I have an old video that compares these two different designs:

Wonder if most the trails around Hurricane are as chunky is this one you just rode? Guess you better be prepared for a bumpy ride.

No most of the trails are smoother than this one, that’s why I remarked. But the chunk shouldn’t prevent you from riding this one - it’s still a great trail! Thanks for watching!
