  • To celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘English Grammar in Use’, one of the world’s favourite English textbooks, the British Council and Cambridge University Press invited the author Raymond Murphy to host a talk at the Margarita Rudomino All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature in Moscow.
Raymond Murphy shared his perspective on challenges in teaching and learning, and how the use of grammatical terminology is not always as helpful as we imagine.
The event was held as part of the UK-Russia Year of Language and Literature 2016.
Лекция Реймонда Мёрфи, автора знаменитого учебника "Grammar in Use", организованная Британским Советом в России и Cambridge University Press Russia в рамках Года языка и литературы Великобритании и России 2016

*Likewise, I used it back in 1989. It was a huge help for me to learn English as my third language. I still have it after 31 years and will keep it until I die. Cheers,*

Many thanks to Mr Murphy for his fascinating talk as well as the camera crew backstage who made the video streaming and recording possible. Thanks to you me and many other enthusiastic teachers like me haven't missed on such an enlightening presentation you kindly delivered.
After I watched this, I've actually started using Raymond Murphy's advice on grammatical terminology in class and was surprised to find out how easy students began to find the grammar. Therefore they now feel the sense of achievement after each grammar lesson I teach, all thanks to you!
Tons of love from Ukraine x

The reason the room is damp and humid is because there's a leak on/ in the roof. We call this Cause and Effect law or for every action there's a consequence.

Why isn't anyone talking about the British most famous publishing companies selling textbooks for the purpose of teaching English as a foreign or a second language like Longman, Oxford, Cambridge, Macmillan and the rest of them. This industry is a multimillion dollar industry. And they are all sold by Amazon. Big business! Only rich people can afford to buy these books. The poor will get black and white photocopied books and the rich will get the original books which come in many colors ☺️

I stopped watching American movies because of their weird accent. British accent sounds posh and easy to understand.
