Robb expected it because he knew his mother was very vulnerable and was already reacting very mean to others talking to her. I just re-read aGoT and I can say with certainty that Catelyn’s disdain for Jon Snow is WORSE in the books than in the show. When she meets Mya Stone, she is immediately displeased with her being a bastard and reminding her of Jon Snow. One major factor for why Jon was sent to the Night’s Watch was because of Catelyn’s refusal to let him stay at Winterfell after Ned rode south and she is comforted by the knowledge that he will be confined to the Wall for the rest of his life. She perseverates on Jon Snow in her inner monologue quite often in her POV chapters and she outwardly told Jon Snow that it should have been him that was thrown from the tower instead of Bran. So I’m with Quinn on this one.

I think people take Rhaegar's 3 heads of the dragon comment too literally. After rereading the Dunk and Egg books, I'm certain that Rhaegar said that because he DREAMED it. And he misinterpreted that dream. I think the dream foreshadows the struggle between Daenerys Jon and Aegon. Rhaegar believed the dragons the dream represented were all his own offspring, because he was convinced that he was fulfilling prophecy. And he was, just not how he thought. It doesn't mean another secret targaryen is out there, or that every dragon will have a rider.
Love this! Never considered how Dany's vision of her deceased brother might be a literal memory. Rhaegar's misinterpreting prophecy would make perfect sense given GRRM's opinions and expression of prophetic proclamation.

He could use the maester to send the pink letter to get Jon to join the battle possibly, maybe Stannis wants more men and thinks Jon will bring a group of people to join in the battle. Another cool thought is that it was Melisandre because she was trying to get Jon out of the danger of the “daggers in the dark”... maybe the pink colour is a clue, pink is a shade of red. Everything about her was red...is how Melisandre is described many times.

Melisandre also has the prophetic visions to help with the details of the letter
The tapestries Little finger wants have gold coins sewn into the lining. He was squirrelling away money, skimming off the top and hiding it in the tapestries. Someone describes finding a man with a shirt that was way too heavy and they found a lining with gold coins sewn into the lining. That is foreshadowing for there being gold sewn into the tapestries he wants from kings landing.
the white walkers are motivated by self defense, the faith of the 7 and rhollor both have a prophecy/ endgame that ends with the long summer the utopia for mankind. The long summer is to the others as the long night is to us, and who was dabbling with prophecy right before the others became active? Rhaegar, champion of fire trying to save the world... for man. The others are trying to stop the long summer their prophesied doom, and this ends with balance a song of ice and fire balance between the seasons balance between us an the others.
I like this idea, just a bunch of cold blooded brothers just chilling up north in the land of always winter that are protecting there freedom to live forever in nothingness, I can relate.
Hodor is afraid of the crypts. The door of the crypts is at an angle and I believe this door will be the door hodor must hold. I’m not sure if he will have to hold it closed from the inside or the outside but the angle of the crypt door made me think he will prop himself under the door and hold it closed as his friends escape into the crypts. I believe in one of the descriptions where the POV character is going in or out of the crypts and the angle of the door is described there is some foreshadowing there that someone will have to hold it closed at some point.There is a secret escape that Maester Luwin spoke about and the people will escape through the exit of the crypts. Hodor will give them enough time to get free. Either that or he will be holding the door closed from the outside to prevent something getting out of the crypts maybe. Either way the foreshadowing of Hodor being afraid of the crypts sticks out as he doesn’t seem afraid in bloodravens cave. It’s something about the crypts.He must make the door a wall. Wall-door. Turn the door into a wall and not allow anyone to cross. Lord of the crossing. I like the theory of him trying to prevent the others crossing the wall but I like the wall becoming a flood better.
Doc Insano who knows why there was a door to the cave in the show. My theory in above comment is about Hodor having to hold the door to winterfell crypts at some point. I think in the books Coldhands does mention a back door to the cave but I highly doubt it has a door and a door frame. It is probably what a back exit to a cave actually is, another opening to the cave in a different spot. That is why my theory is about the winterfell crypts. There’s foreshadowing evidence in the text and his name in the books is actually Walder but everyone calls him Hodor because that is the only word he says.

I think the Others will be held off at Harenhall. They mention it a couple of times that their walls are very durable and it would be symbolic because basically everyone important was at Harenhall for the tourney when Rhaegar crowned Lyanna and thats where basically the story starts. In a similar way we’ll see everyone important being in Harenhall fighting the others at the end of the series.
Dawn being made of a foreign material explains the story of how difficult lightbringer was to forge into a sword. This for me is proof that Dawn is lightbringer. It makes sense that a brand new substance that was obtained from a meteor would require a special technique to transform the raw material into a sword. I also have a theory that all Valyrian steel swords can also be ignited to burn similar to the flame of the glass candles. I think that obsidian is a secret ingredient for Valyrian steel and that is why the Targaryen family chose Dragon stone for their home, to control the production of Valyrian steel and glass candles and even the Valyrian building techniques for shaping the dragon shaped buildings has to do with obsidian as well and melting it similar to the way actual glass can be melted and shaped. Back to the swords, if there is obsidian mixed into the makeup of Valyrian steel swords than it could be possible to ignite that obsidian in a similar way to the ignition of glass candles which has a flame that is described to burn despite a strong wind, so it can’t just be blown out. This could be the flame that Jaime sees in his weirwood stump dream where his and Briennes swords ignite with a flame. I also believe there is an underground freshwater sea that is described deep in all the caves that are explored in this story. I also believ the cold pool of water next to the winterfell heart tree is connected to the underground sea and that it will be significant later on.

Jon's body being used by the Others, while his spirit is in Ghost could have been foreshadowed. Becoming a Wildling (the current enemy of The Watch) is like becoming an Other (the real enemy of the Nights Watch.) He betrayed and ultimately brought peace with the Wildlings... Maybe a love not war ending is possible with The Others.

I keep going back to the significance of 3. Three heads of the dragon, three eggs for Dany, all the 3’s that are foretold to Dany (mounts, treasons, fires)...and then on the map there is islands called the three sisters. I keep wondering wether Lyanna gave birth to triplets in her bed of blood. Or if somehow they ended up with 3 babies at the tower of joy and starfall that had to be hidden away... there aren’t any references to triplets that I know of or can think of now so maybe the lack of triplets in this story is a clue that it was miraculous for Lyanna to have had triplets. I like the triplet theory. Maybe Jon was the boy and Ned took him home for absolute protection, sent Meera home with Howland because he was a trusted friend with the ability to hide away in the Neck and then there’s a girl named Wylla at white harbour that dyes her long braid green. She’s mysterious and very feisty and speaks out as a stark loyalist during the audience with Davos, the Frey’s and the Mandelys. Yet it’s also strange that Dany remembers a house with animals carved into the beams and ceiling and the main hall at white harbour is described as being covered in carvings of creatures from the sea. In a child’s mind that could be remembered as wooden carved animals. Also Arianne speaks with her father about a young green haired girl that they used to all play with in the water gardens in Dorne. Dorne is known to be a safe place for children, even during political upheaval. How are these children connected? Will we ever find out about the girl with the green braid?
Kat, I hope 2 answer your question. Dany was in the Sea Lord's palace in Bravos when she was little. In Dance when Quentyn brought Dany the marriage offer it was signed by Dorran Martell and the Sea Of Bravos. As 4 triplets I doubt it. The 3s are mostly tied 2 Queen Daenerys Targaryen- eggs, dragons, heads of House Targaryen, mounts, fires and treasons.
Christopher Tracy I am not sure I believe Dany in her memory. The marriage pact could have been signed in Dorne as Doran has gout and cannot move. The sea lord of bravos could have travelled to Dorne and signed the pact and then taken the children to Bravos. I just saw a lot of clues that Dany had a happy childhood in Dorne with lemon trees and a house with a red Door. Also I believ Dany could be a triplet. I believe there is something secret about her identity.

GRRM always has some underlying plot that is, the reader, isn’t aware of until some awesome reveal, hence the red wedding, purple wedding, Jon snow’s baby swap with Gily, the secret that Manderly didn’t kill the onion knight as had been reported. I could go on and on. It’s his style to have hidden agendas and stuff that is fun to speculate about. I almost never take the writing for its face value. GRRM layers symbols and foreshadowing to a level of genius that is unparalleled in this type of literature.its so fun to speculate on the next hidden plot and reveal and the secret identities and the unreliable narrator due to the style of different POV characters telling the grand story. I love it.

Then there is a girl name Wylla in white Harbour in a Davos chapter that also has a green braid and braids link woth Dany too. And the name Wylla is what Ned throws out as a name to his mistress to Robert Baratheon being a terrible on the spot liar he gave a name connected to this huge lie about neds “mistress”. Also if they sailed from Dorne they passed the islands the three sisters. And when Davos is on those islands he is told a story of Ned Stark slipping through that area with some mistress which is the lie that was spread to cover the secret babies and women etc....also Dany was so young that she would BARELY remember much of the first 5 years of her life, much and more could have went on. One of the hints in the undying house is something like asking does she know who she is, the dragons know... like she’s meant to find out something about her identity
I always thought Jon would take Blackfyre/Dark Sister or Dawn and leave Longclaw to house Stark as the new family sword. It has a wolf on its hilt so it’s kinda perfect. Aemond the Dragonknight was his hero growing up so maybe makes more sense to give him Dark Sister, and it’s beyond the wall so...
Secret parentage usually annoys me except for with Luke and Jon because Luke's father was the villain who he was destined to destroy and Jon because with R+L=J it makes sense for someone as honorable as Ned would withhold who his mom is from him. If any other person besides Lyanna is Jon's mother it destroys Ned's character because he would've just withheld something so important from a boy for a selfish reason.
Be interested to see if majority of Jon tv show story with the others is actually Stannis in the book. I wonder why Shireen will be burnt ? Maybe in a sacrifice when they getting smashed by the others?
What do you think was up with the limestone faces we see in Arianne’s chapter in TWOW where they find Elia Sand deep inside the tunnels on their march to Storm’s End to meet Aegon & Jon Con? Limestone takes tens of thousands of years to form. The children must be OLD.
Do they also have a limestone network? Is that still active? It reminded of the hall of faces, from the House of Black & White the way it was described. Why are there so many tunnels in Westeros & why do they all seem to be so old? Might have to wait for ADOS for that answer. Did they have to go underground after the meteor impact? And was it the humans or the children that made these tunnels? But there are tunnels in every Kingdom it seems as well as beyond the Wall.

I do like the idea of Jaime being a Lord Commander of the Nights Watch, and I do think we will see the 1000th LC eventually. The 999th will probably die when the wall falls or something. But Jaime’s arc ending in something like that would be really cool. With regards to Robert being LF’s bastard, I quite like that and have actually always thought it even though I’ve not seen too many theories about it. Like you said, I don’t think it would phase LF in the slightest killing him whether he knew he was his son or not.
Could the heart of winter be the Heart tree in the winter realm. Maybe the others do have some sort of palace of ice that has a heart tree. The show sort of showed how a heart tree went from green and alive to frozen and broken. I also have a theory about poles shifting and the lands of always winter weren’t always winter and Dorne used to be frozen and it was an ice bridge that the first men crossed to get from Essos to Westeros. But that knowledge was lost and a story was made up by maesters about magically breaking the earth to explain why the bridge people crossed is gone and only islands remain.

Definitely believe there is more to Bloodraven than we are shown in the books. GRRM describes him as the whisperer in darkness which is a great H.P. Lovecraft story about a folk historian going north to talk to some guy he had been writing to about strange creatures attacking his farm. Alot of dark Lovecraft stuff that GRRM is probably playing off of.
Food for thought: What if the younger the stark sibling is, the stronger their magical abilities? The two oldest didn't seem to warg at all, even tho Lady dies pretty early on and we don't get a Robb pov

I think we (the reader and maybe Sansa) may find out that Robyn was LF son after he's dead, as a way to prophesy LF downfall for Kin slaying. Maybe Sansa would use it against him idk, but if little Robyn is his son then I think George will find a way to let us know that kinslaying was involved.
I think the third head of the dragon will be faegon which will heal the targ/blackfyre rift why else would we be getting so much history and background on it?
Part of me thinks the Long night only happens in the North because George loves to play up the idea that the reason so many folks don't believe in myth and magic is because certain things don't affect their region and information is not distributed equally.

I think the Song of Ice & fire means the union of Valyrian (fire) & weir wood (ice) magic. & it seems the Starks hold the deepest connection to that. Essos is liberated from slavers and Euron and Victorian dies in wow. Arya escapes Stannis dies as does Ramsey and Jon retakes WF and the Wall falls in part 1.

Yes, Robert Arryn is Littlefinger's son. "I want us to make another child". She would not have said "another" unless we (us) already have one. Also, "the seed is strong" may refer to Bobby B's bastards, but it for sure hints towards Littlefinger and Robert Arryn.
My understanding is that the first child was from Littlefinger taking Lysa’s maidenhead back when they were both teenagers. Following when Cat spurned LF and Brandon Stark kicked his ass. Hence, Hoster Tully insisting that Lysa be given the Tansy remedy to abort the baby by LF. Sweet Robyn being LF’s actual son is still an interesting possibility.

the white walkers are motivated by self defense, the faith of the 7 and rhollor both have a prophecy/ endgame that ends with the long summer the utopia for mankind. The long summer is to the others as the long night is to us, and who was dabbling with prophecy right before the others became active? Rhaegar, champion of fire trying to save the world... for man. The others are trying to stop the long summer their prophesied doom, and this ends with balance a song of ice and fire balance between the seasons balance between us an the others.
I like this idea, just a bunch of cold blooded brothers just chilling up north in the land of always winter that are protecting there freedom to live forever in nothingness, I can relate.
It might be that events in Summerhall brought them back.

Hodor is afraid of the crypts. The door of the crypts is at an angle and I believe this door will be the door hodor must hold. I’m not sure if he will have to hold it closed from the inside or the outside but the angle of the crypt door made me think he will prop himself under the door and hold it closed as his friends escape into the crypts. I believe in one of the descriptions where the POV character is going in or out of the crypts and the angle of the door is described there is some foreshadowing there that someone will have to hold it closed at some point.There is a secret escape that Maester Luwin spoke about and the people will escape through the exit of the crypts. Hodor will give them enough time to get free. Either that or he will be holding the door closed from the outside to prevent something getting out of the crypts maybe. Either way the foreshadowing of Hodor being afraid of the crypts sticks out as he doesn’t seem afraid in bloodravens cave. It’s something about the crypts.He must make the door a wall. Wall-door. Turn the door into a wall and not allow anyone to cross. Lord of the crossing. I like the theory of him trying to prevent the others crossing the wall but I like the wall becoming a flood better.

Doc Insano who knows why there was a door to the cave in the show. My theory in above comment is about Hodor having to hold the door to winterfell crypts at some point. I think in the books Coldhands does mention a back door to the cave but I highly doubt it has a door and a door frame. It is probably what a back exit to a cave actually is, another opening to the cave in a different spot. That is why my theory is about the winterfell crypts. There’s foreshadowing evidence in the text and his name in the books is actually Walder but everyone calls him Hodor because that is the only word he says.

I think the Others will be held off at Harenhall. They mention it a couple of times that their walls are very durable and it would be symbolic because basically everyone important was at Harenhall for the tourney when Rhaegar crowned Lyanna and thats where basically the story starts. In a similar way we’ll see everyone important being in Harenhall fighting the others at the end of the series.
Dawn being made of a foreign material explains the story of how difficult lightbringer was to forge into a sword. This for me is proof that Dawn is lightbringer. It makes sense that a brand new substance that was obtained from a meteor would require a special technique to transform the raw material into a sword. I also have a theory that all Valyrian steel swords can also be ignited to burn similar to the flame of the glass candles. I think that obsidian is a secret ingredient for Valyrian steel and that is why the Targaryen family chose Dragon stone for their home, to control the production of Valyrian steel and glass candles and even the Valyrian building techniques for shaping the dragon shaped buildings has to do with obsidian as well and melting it similar to the way actual glass can be melted and shaped. Back to the swords, if there is obsidian mixed into the makeup of Valyrian steel swords than it could be possible to ignite that obsidian in a similar way to the ignition of glass candles which has a flame that is described to burn despite a strong wind, so it can’t just be blown out. This could be the flame that Jaime sees in his weirwood stump dream where his and Briennes swords ignite with a flame. I also believe there is an underground freshwater sea that is described deep in all the caves that are explored in this story. I also believ the cold pool of water next to the winterfell heart tree is connected to the underground sea and that it will be significant later on.

Becoming a Wildling (the current enemy of The Watch) is like becoming an Other (the real enemy of the Nights Watch.) He betrayed and ultimately brought peace with the Wildlings... Maybe a love not war ending is possible with The Others.

I keep going back to the significance of 3. Three heads of the dragon, three eggs for Dany, all the 3’s that are foretold to Dany (mounts, treasons, fires)...and then on the map there is islands called the three sisters. I keep wondering wether Lyanna gave birth to triplets in her bed of blood. Or if somehow they ended up with 3 babies at the tower of joy and starfall that had to be hidden away... there aren’t any references to triplets that I know of or can think of now so maybe the lack of triplets in this story is a clue that it was miraculous for Lyanna to have had triplets. I like the triplet theory. Maybe Jon was the boy and Ned took him home for absolute protection, sent Meera home with Howland because he was a trusted friend with the ability to hide away in the Neck and then there’s a girl named Wylla at white harbour that dyes her long braid green. She’s mysterious and very feisty and speaks out as a stark loyalist during the audience with Davos, the Frey’s and the Mandelys. Yet it’s also strange that Dany remembers a house with animals carved into the beams and ceiling and the main hall at white harbour is described as being covered in carvings of creatures from the sea. In a child’s mind that could be remembered as wooden carved animals. Also Arianne speaks with her father about a young green haired girl that they used to all play with in the water gardens in Dorne. Dorne is known to be a safe place for children, even during political upheaval. How are these children connected? Will we ever find out about the girl with the green braid?
Kat, I hope 2 answer your question. Dany was in the Sea Lord's palace in Bravos when she was little. In Dance when Quentyn brought Dany the marriage offer it was signed by Dorran Martell and the Sea Of Bravos. As 4 triplets I doubt it. The 3s are mostly tied 2 Queen Daenerys Targaryen- eggs, dragons, heads of House Targaryen, mounts, fires and treasons.
Christopher Tracy I am not sure I believe Dany in her memory. The marriage pact could have been signed in Dorne as Doran has gout and cannot move. The sea lord of bravos could have travelled to Dorne and signed the pact and then taken the children to Bravos. I just saw a lot of clues that Dany had a happy childhood in Dorne with lemon trees and a house with a red Door. Also I believ Dany could be a triplet. I believe there is something secret about her identity.

It could be possible that Doran Martell is relying on his mind’s best bet by sending his gorgeous daughter to Aegon (fAegon) in the storm lands and only sent Quentin with a defunked marriage pact that didn’t even involve either Quentyn or Dany themselves because Doran might suspect something about Dany’s heritage and it’s secrets and so He sort of tosses his dice where he thinks he has the best chance. He probably underestimated Dany and heard that her dragons were very small as word travels slow by boat from so far away. GRRM always has some underlying plot that is, the reader, isn’t aware of until some awesome reveal, hence the red wedding, purple wedding, Jon snow’s baby swap with Gily, the secret that Manderly didn’t kill the onion knight as had been reported. I could go on and on. It’s his style to have hidden agendas and stuff that is fun to speculate about. I almost never take the writing for its face value. GRRM layers symbols and foreshadowing to a level of genius that is unparalleled in this type of literature.its so fun to speculate on the next hidden plot and reveal and the secret identities and the unreliable narrator due to the style of different POV characters telling the grand story. I love it.

I was just listing off candidates like the references to a girl with a green braid in Dorne that played as children woth Arianne and the sand snakes. Then there is a girl name Wylla in white Harbour in a Davos chapter that also has a green braid and braids link woth Dany too. But also there are wooden carved sea animals in the white harbour keep that Dany mentions remebering at one point. And the name Wylla is what Ned throws out as a name to his mistress to Robert Baratheon being a terrible on the spot liar he gave a name connected to this huge lie about neds “mistress”. Also if they sailed from Dorne they passed the islands the three sisters. And when Davos is on those islands he is told a story of Ned Stark slipping through that area with some mistress which is the lie that was spread to cover the secret babies and women etc....also Dany was so young that she would BARELY remember much of the first 5 years of her life, much and more could have went on. One of the hints in the undying house is something like asking does she know who she is, the dragons know... like she’s meant to find out something about her identity
I always thought Jon would take Blackfyre/Dark Sister or Dawn and leave Longclaw to house Stark as the new family sword. It has a wolf on its hilt so it’s kinda perfect. Aemond the Dragonknight was his hero growing up so maybe makes more sense to give him Dark Sister, and it’s beyond the wall so...
I think the Mormont's sword is a family heirloom from when they were the Andals that arrived at Bear Island
Secret parentage usually annoys me except for with Luke and Jon because Luke's father was the villain who he was destined to destroy and Jon because with R+L=J it makes sense for someone as honorable as Ned would withhold who his mom is from him. If any other person besides Lyanna is Jon's mother it destroys Ned's character because he would've just withheld something so important from a boy for a selfish reason.

What do you think was up with the limestone faces we see in Arianne’s chapter in TWOW where they find Elia Sand deep inside the tunnels on their march to Storm’s End to meet Aegon & Jon Con? Limestone takes tens of thousands of years to form. The children must be OLD.
Do they also have a limestone network? Is that still active? It reminded of the hall of faces, from the House of Black & White the way it was described. Why are there so many tunnels in Westeros & why do they all seem to be so old? Might have to wait for ADOS for that answer. Did they have to go underground after the meteor impact? And was it the humans or the children that made these tunnels? But there are tunnels in every Kingdom it seems as well as beyond the Wall.

I do like the idea of Jaime being a Lord Commander of the Nights Watch, and I do think we will see the 1000th LC eventually. The 999th will probably die when the wall falls or something. But Jaime’s arc ending in something like that would be really cool.
With regards to Robert being LF’s bastard, I quite like that and have actually always thought it even though I’ve not seen too many theories about it. Like you said, I don’t think it would phase LF in the slightest killing him whether he knew he was his son or not.

Could the heart of winter be the Heart tree in the winter realm. Maybe the others do have some sort of palace of ice that has a heart tree. The show sort of showed how a heart tree went from green and alive to frozen and broken. I also have a theory about poles shifting and the lands of always winter weren’t always winter and Dorne used to be frozen and it was an ice bridge that the first men crossed to get from Essos to Westeros. But that knowledge was lost and a story was made up by maesters about magically breaking the earth to explain why the bridge people crossed is gone and only islands remain.

Definitely believe there is more to Bloodraven than we are shown in the books. GRRM describes him as the whisperer in darkness which is a great H.P. Lovecraft story about a folk historian going north to talk to some guy he had been writing to about strange creatures attacking his farm. Alot of dark Lovecraft stuff that GRRM is probably playing off of.
Food for thought: What if the younger the stark sibling is, the stronger their magical abilities? The two oldest didn't seem to warg at all, even tho Lady dies pretty early on and we don't get a Robb pov

I think we (the reader and maybe Sansa) may find out that Robyn was LF son after he's dead, as a way to prophesy LF downfall for Kin slaying. Maybe Sansa would use it against him idk, but if little Robyn is his son then I think George will find a way to let us know that kinslaying was involved.

Part of me thinks the Long night only happens in the North because George loves to play up the idea that the reason so many folks don't believe in myth and magic is because certain things don't affect their region and information is not distributed equally.

I think maybe Jon will be the one to lead the Others. It’s a little crazy but would be the craziest twist I’ve ever seen. I think the Song of Ice & fire means the union of Valyrian (fire) & weir wood (ice) magic. & it seems the Starks hold the deepest connection to that. Perhaps Azor Ahai also had similar blood, if not exactly Targaryen & Stark. Idk, Jon just seems like a typical hero. The young misunderstood boy, who has no entitlement to his fathers lands (basically the poor farm boy) who ends up a badass warrior/leader. He even has the scar over the eye & the magic sword. & George loves to flip characters. Sansa = alayne, Arya = mercy, or nobody, etc, the hound = the grave digger, bran = three eyed raven, Cat = Lady Stoneheart,etc, etc. Jon, mr chosen one who is the main one worried about the Others, ultimately ends up leading them into the war he was warning everyone about.? Shit would be so interesting.

Essos is liberated from slavers and Euron and Victorian dies in wow. Arya escapes Stannis dies as does Ramsey and Jon retakes WF and the Wall falls in part 1.

My understanding is that the first child was from Littlefinger taking Lysa’s maidenhead back when they were both teenagers. Following when Cat spurned LF and Brandon Stark kicked his ass. Hence, Hoster Tully insisting that Lysa be given the Tansy remedy to abort the baby by LF. Sweet Robyn being LF’s actual son is still an interesting possibility.
