Great review! Having the two watches side by side helps a lot. I think the takeaway here is how close the fit and finish of more economically produced SARX can come these days to the much more carefully, hand-crafted GS, for less than half the cost. Of course, the movement is the big difference. I'd say the GS is a special watch for those who know, and can tell the difference, and don't mind paying for it!
Un fan de montres qui fait exactement la comparaison que je cherchais ! Et en anglais s'il vous plaît ! Excellente revue cher ami. Je te remercie pour cette vidéo claire, nette et précise. À bientôt !
I have a SARX 055. Here is my take: (1) Having just viewed some GS at an AD it is clear that the polishing on the SARX, though wonderful - truly wonderful - is outdone by the GS. Whether this is due to the SARX being titanium or just more and better polishing for the higher end product (or both) I do not know. But the GS are simply jewelry. (2) Quartz and Spring Drive are vastly superior to Automatic. This is especially so with the 3Hz tick rate of the 6R15 movement. (3) The SARX dial is just out of this world and almost at a level of the GS.
Nice review! FYI - the SARW041, released last year, is the real Baby Snowflake. It is high beat, and it has the power reserve subdial like the big snowflake.
I think it's ugly, but I can see what you mean with the titanium, dial, power reserve indicator and movement. I think the Seiko SARA015 or SJE073 is a better choice for frost dial, zaratzu finish, hi beat movement, heat treated blue hands and it's more simple and symmetrical looks. Cheers
Nice review. Obviously I'd prefer the GS version as far as the white dial. In black dial though, my prference would be reversed. The GS version adds lum to the hands of that variant which ruins the lines. The Seiko version doesn't have that and actually looks nicer in my opinion. Grand Seiko doesn't drop the ball often, but the only thing they should have changed with the black dial SBGA was the color.
maitrehg 38mm is a woman’s size? Bro go enjoy your 50mm Nixon and leave the real watches to people who can enjoy a quality timepiece without it looking like they’re wearing a wallclock on their wrist
3:40 cmon man. The GS is just OP. You're right that it could have more flash on the lower end models (my $200 sea urchin has an almost identical case back) but thats just a testament to their lower end watches more than anything
The 6r15 is what kills it for me. No decoration at all. Look at the Mido Baroncelli III. For $700 new the Mido has a 2892 movement with genve striping, blued screws, decorated winding weight, and overall the watch is less than 7mm thick. The only thing this SARX055 is better is the dial.
I hate the name baby snowflake, the dial looks like smooth ice frozen onto a window Should be called the icicle The more opened up dial reminds me of going onto a lake to go ice skating Like the GS IS CALLED SNOWFLAKE cause it's made to look like snow The presage looks nothing at all like snow
@@UptickWatchReviews I sent it to SeiyaJapan who sent it to Seiko. I imagine a chunk of the change was in import fees. Do you know how much a service elsewhere would cost?
Seiko would have fixed service cost tables in every country. I don’t have the details but I remember watching a video basically advising not to send them any watch out of warranty, as service will run up to the best part or more of the value of the watch. So independent service is recommended.
Not at all impressed with the Seiko 6R15 movement in any of my Seikos. It's not very accurate, sounds like sand grinding when winding, and has no finishing at all.
The power reserve is a plus for the GS? No. Just no. That power reserve is the single biggest blunder by GS. Why carve up your dial? Why destroy your symmetry? I would already have bought this watch if it were not for this catastrophe. Here you have the best dial ever and you subtract from it by a power reserve?? How could GS make such a blunder? And the weird positioning? Oh dear! Japanese craftmanship has class but here is their biggest mistake (ThinK fountain pens, Go boards, screen printing.) It is very sad.
You're sad. A power reserve indicator got you all hot and bothered to the point that you discredit everything else about the watch, and even got you to rant about an entire culture. Only blunder here is that you think your ignorance holds any weight. Go buy a replica for your shallow self, you wearing any branded watch will be an embarrassment to it.

Lol the baby looks so much better imo. The shape and dial texture are much better. I do appreciate the better finishing and clasp on the GS tho.
I only regret that they don't manufacture them a little smaller :(
That quality in the size of the SARB035 would be, for me, perfect
I second that :-(
40mm is great
They should do both sizes. A sky blue dial would also be amazing.

Both very elegant pieces, but that GS really does exude class. Enjoy!

Great comparison, thank you.
Great review! Thank you!
This is why GS is hard to sell and has a long way to catch up with Rolex
Because seiko itself is already very good
And they look very similar
Aasa yo It’s true but you’ll enjoy your first GS and won’t regret spending the extra cash.
@Koda Bear Yeah, I'd definitely buy a Grand Seiko over a Rolex. The finishing is amazing and they just exude class.

Nice comparison. Thanks for the video
The Sarx would be absolute perfection if it were a 38mm
SunsetSheen for women ?
maitrehg 38mm is a woman’s size? Bro go enjoy your 50mm Nixon and leave the real watches to people who can enjoy a quality timepiece without it looking like they’re wearing a wallclock on their wrist
SunsetSheen These damn chicken wrists are so annoying
maitrehg yeah the only thing more annoying is having to wear a 46mm watch to compensate for a micro penis
40mm is good enough
3:40 cmon man. The GS is just OP. You're right that it could have more flash on the lower end models (my $200 sea urchin has an almost identical case back) but thats just a testament to their lower end watches more than anything
GS really needs to make a smaller and thinner snowflake....
these two are basically a twin, same father but different mother....
Great video mate. Good job.
SARX055 also Titanium.
both are fantastic, congrats and enjoy!
Either I missed it, or you did not mention the AR coating on the "baby snowflake". You can see glare on the grand , but practically none on the baby.
A better comparison would have been the SJE to the GS. It’s has the exact same finishing and is 4hz.

And case, and bracelet.
The dial is alot though. I take your points. The Swiss offer great value between $500 & $1000.
I actually like the more simple dial of the SARX055.
I hate the name baby snowflake, the dial looks like smooth ice frozen onto a window
Should be called the icicle
The more opened up dial reminds me of going onto a lake to go ice skating
Like the GS IS CALLED SNOWFLAKE cause it's made to look like snow
The presage looks nothing at all like snow
I won't be able to afford that Snowflake anytime soon, but just knowing it exists makes it impossible for me to ever settle for the Frosty.
Great video. Merci
My 6R15 cost $400 to get serviced in Japan. Did I get scammed??
I assume you serviced through Seiko? Basically I’d never service an affordable Seiko at Seiko. Their fixed costs are the same no matter what.

We all know which one you truly love more 😍
Which watch looks better Sarx033 or this one?
No contest. This one by a mile.
Not at all impressed with the Seiko 6R15 movement in any of my Seikos. It's not very accurate, sounds like sand grinding when winding, and has no finishing at all.
Are these two different companies?
i will take the presage over GS anyday because presage is automatic and not a springdrive
