Seiko SARX055 Baby Snowflake - A Titanium Dress Watch With Automatic Movement

- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- In today's video, I will review the beautiful, gorgeous, stunning (. . .) Seiko Baby Snowflake, SARX055. This awesome Japanese watch takes its styling cues from the more expensive Grand Seiko snowflake, but doesn't cut many corners to get there.
Powered by Seiko's in-house 6R15 automatic movement, the SARX055 has a frosted white dial that simply must be seen. The dial is protected by an anti-reflective scratch resistant crystal that literally disappears in normal lighting situations.
Come check it out!
longislandwatc...
Thank you for watching.
That little noise just right before you say “about a month ago” at the beginning of the video is my absolute favourite. I replayed it 10 times hahahaha

LOL, thanks Vanessa.
Everyone says the SARB line was worth so much more than it's price tag. Then when these come out with an higher price, everyone says it's too much. Lol. I for one love it. And my SARB 017 avgs -2+ a day, I think it's still a great value.
LOL, you cannot please everyone.
Dale Taylor Jr., the Sarb spoiled a lot of people including myself. I bought mine in 2015 and paid $293 for my 035.
Club Soda until you put them side by side.
Club Soda the number of times my father had his hulk serviced was unholy, 3 times in 7 years, that really turned me off on rolex watches
Mini Panini I had my Sub serviced after 25 years of ownership. Going on year 27.
The ar coating is amazing. I have a sdgm003 with the same ar coated crystal. It like there is nothing there. Just a magical force field protecting the dial. Before I saw it in my hand, I didn't like the idea of ar coating on both sides. It didn't make sense to have a sapphire crystal with ar on top just to get it scratched up. However, two years later there stiĺ isn't the slightest scratch on the coating. The only draw back is it does smug easily, and the smallest spec of dust drives me nuts. I found myself constantly cleaning the dial, but it's well worth it.
Thanks for the feedback. I agree wholeheartedly.
I have the SARX057 myself - stunning piece. The weight and that crystal is crazy.
It sure is! In a light way!
Can't get over that SARX look either ...for a llooonngg time Marc-hope to get one of these, my favorite Seiko, from you at 1:00 pm on November 26th😅, when I am saving up to take a swing for it ffiiinnaallyyy-Hhuuurraaayyy for Long Island Watch!
I was unsure wether to get the GS quartz in black or white. Now I know I should get it black and get this snowy beauty!
Great point on the ar crystal. The thing that drives me nuts with the SRBP41 is that the crystal is so reflective that it can distract from the gorgeous dial. But they got it right with this watch; as well they should at this price point! Great review.
Don't get the people that try to compare the SARB line with the SARX line. Yes, it's the same movement. But the finishing and attention to detail is on a whole new level with the SARX (very near to that of modern Grand Seikos). The price difference is definitely justified. I don't want to bash the SARB's - I have three 017, 033, 035 - they are great watches and they still can be had for very good prices. But in a comparison between the SARB's and the SARX', the mass-produced movement shouldn't be the deciding factor as it's the cheapest part. But the case, bracelet and dial are on very different levels - and that's what drives the costs.
Slap a swiss brand and "Swiss Made" on a SARX and you would be paying at least 4 grand.
I agree. I think, perhaps then, Seiko made a mistake putting the 6R15 in the sarbs, because now it's like they sold themselves short when they upgrade.
Long Island Watch not unlike newspapers giving away content on the internet back in the day. Not a smart move long term.
Long Island Watch, I'm not sure, that's what got many fans into loving Seiko, I guess. As you said in another comment "You can buy a (swiss) watch with an ETA 2824 for $400, or for $2000". People just need to realize on what fantastic level these more expensive offerings are and that design, materials, fit and finish and refinements as double-sided AR coating and Diashield are major cost drivers. You get what you pay for. And in the case of some watches in the SARX line, it's phenomenal value.
I agree definitely
I bought a seiko 5 years back as a torture test. I figured I was tired of ruining movements and literally shaking the hands off my watches and heard seikos were durable. Tortured the damn thing every day wearing it daily in an auto shop etc. Its still one of my favorite and most accurate watch years later.
I have a SARX045, SARK007, & SARW037. The fit and finishing on the higher end Seiko Presage watches are superb. I think the bracelets are great as well. I’m tempted to get this watch because the dial is so unique, but I’m not sure how much I’ll like or wear it since most of my watches have blue or black faces. In terms of price, I think you’re spot on. I believe you have to pay tax/duty on anything above $800? And if you have to return it if you have issues with a watch, I can say from experience it cost me $65 to ship it back to Japan although it was refunded later.
Everything you said is correct!
That is gorgeous, sold my sarb035 as I don't really need a dress watch but.............seeing this now ooohhhhh
6r15 is basically a 7s26 movement with hand winding and hacking added.
This is likely the most expensive watch with this movement, but just because it’s titanium. Some steel prospex divers go for around 500-600 with this same movement. Very reliable
Really like this watch. A pity it doesn't come in a dress size of 37-39mm with a deployable leather bracelet.
Sounds like a SARB :)
Hey Mark, are you going to have it in stock anytime soon ??
Beautiful watch Marc, only great retailers get the good stock. Congrats to you and your unrelenting great service. The modded SKX is on my radar now. All the best.
Thank you!
It's a smart watch, Marc. Well presented video again. Best regards from Adrian in Sheffield England.😀
Thanks Adrian.
Very beautiful watch for sure! Love love love that dial! Good one Sir!
Thank you!
I think the name "frost flake" is what I'll call mine when i get it 😊
Wow, I really like this watch. My only complaint would be the "presage automatic" printing on the dial. It would be perfect without that.
You aren't alone. . .
Beautiful! It was my dream to get this one but went for a used SARX015 instead, which I regret.
Oh man, my sarb035 is jealous! The crystal and dial are gorgeous!
I even like that there is NOT any lume on it. I never use the lume on my watch anyway, and I think the hands without the lume looks better.
LOL
A beautiful piece indeed, with great features. It still doesn’t justify the very high price point ( IMO ). Thanks for sharing tho!
Thanks for watching!
I don't really agree and see other brands charging more for less. I would say, if you feel that way, consider their steel sarx version as it costs much less or if that's still too much, the sarb
AL McL - Among my personal collection, I own a Citizen Eco Drive ( Calibre 2100 ), that also carries a Titanium case & Bracelet, an AR Coated mineral glass, Chronograph capabilities, assembled by hand, with a very precise Japanese E210 movement. Because it's an Eco Drive, it never needs a battery change and Solar powered. Price : $595. ( its been discounted by now ). Yes is not not Seiko, but a reputable brand with good Heritage nonetheless, who better understands the customer's view of Value for Money.
Comparing an eco-drive citizen to a 6r powered titanium seiko is apples to oranges.
kcb55 - If you read my comment earlier, I highlighted similar features that both timepieces share ( ie. Titanium Case & Bracelet, AR Coated mineral Sapphire, Japanese made components, Heritage etc. ) so I don't quite agree with you, when you say “ comparing Apples to Oranges ". You miss my point anyway. You can get alternative offerings just as good, if not better, for a fraction of the asking price, this Seiko Snowflake. Yes ...of course it's 2 different pieces from 2 different Watchmakers. But aside from the movements, the fundamentals features of each, is more or less the same. The really big difference here, is a matter of PRICE.
I've seen a few people comment that the case of the SARX033/035/055/057 is clearly inspired by that of the 62GS vintage Grand Seiko (the twisted/lyre lugs with sharply cut-off ends).
Possible, good observation.
Oh Thanks Mark
What a beautiful watch. I was considering to get a Sharp edged (white as well) but now I think I’m leaning more for this model. The dial and titanium I mean come on! Which one would you say is better value for money? 🤔
Super nice watch and another great video. Wish I was in the market as it would fit right in with the rest of my 6r15 movement JDM Seikos. With that out of the way I have to say- not sure you watch Silicon Valley, but my wife giggles every time you say “tip to tip”.
LOL, thanks.
Probably my 7th time watching this video. I'm in absolute love with this watch. So sad though since I'll have to sell all my watches and probably add some case to get my hands on one.
Lovely watch, Mark. I wish it was a high-beat movement inside at this price point though, like most of it’s Swiss competition. Seiko 6r15 is going wayyy upmarket apparently. From 3-400 to 7-1200. Wow. Okay then.
The SJE073 is the high-beat, global version of this watch with the same dial texture but the double baton dial markers at 3, 6, and 9, not just 12, and slightly curved/leaf-shaped hands and stainless steel case from the SARX035 instead of titanium, 28,800 bph with a 6L35 (based on 4L25) movement, and hence thinner, due to the thinner movement and front-loading case, and with blue dial text and chapter ring marks instead of black, and embossed (proud) "S" on crown instead of engraved, announced at Baselworld 2018 as a limited edition of 1,881 pieces, but it's $2,200 USD.
Yeah, that is one gorgeous watch.
I've thought about it, but I'm really trying to make my next purchase 'not-a-Seiko'. :(
The movement is great, whether in a $500 watch or a $1000 watch. You pay for more than a movement when you purchase a watch.
Long Island Watch I agree, but whereas you used to be able to get a watch with that movement relatively affordable it seems those days are behind us.
6r15 is comparable to ETA 2824 and that movement can be found in $350 Tissot all the way up to $3000 blackbay. 6r15 is extremely reliable and tough, my only problem with it is that it is thick and Seiko put them in their dress watch, making the presage dress watches sooooooo damn thick. But for the SARX055, i think it's perfectly fine.
Looks fantastic. A very tempting piece!
Looks like 90percent of other seikos , that's why i have my quartzy
Thank you.
Any advice for finding one today
I have to wear mine today after watching this.
WOW that's gorgeous. I was tempted by the 033 at one stage but that's steel (nothing wrong with that), although I love the blued hands. Would settle for just a second hand blued and that crystal and dial. A step up from my white SARB plus love the slightly larger size. Hmmm do I bridge the gap between The SARB and a Grand Seiko, not for a while perhaps. Good work Marc.
Thanks Mark. This one is a whole different ballgame on the fit and finish.
My citizen moon phase that I ADORE is 146 grams and to be it has just the right amount of heft. My SKX007 on strap code is 171 grams and it is about as hefty as I like. Would to 106 grams feel “cheap” from being super light weight?
Beautiful and accurate too. Mine is Cosc accurate, static and in use.
Wonderful to hear!
This has potential to become a future collectible
I think so.
Hi Mark, the link in the description doesn’t work. (I’m interested in this watch)
Hi Mark. Just wanted to ask if the bracelet of SARX055 is tapered? It appears that its width is the same from lug to clasp. I hope you take the time to reply. Thanks in advance
The SARX033 / 035 / 055 are better than grand seiko except for the movement and polishing. This dial disappears SO MUCH BETTER than most grand seikos. You get so much value for the money. My SARX033 saved me so much money because I'm not tempted by a grand seiko.
Thanks for sharing!
It is odd that they don't use the Super Clear Coating on GS yet. That said, you can't really say a $1000msrp SARX is *better* than a GS. I was comparing my SARX035 to some GS's recently, and the dial is darn close, but the polishing and tolerances are certainly tighter on GS, not to mention the finer movements and higher beat. Still, it is hard to go wrong with a SARX- 80% of a GS for 20% of the price.
Gorgeous watch and absolutely worth the money. Much higher quality than the sarb line.
I mean...not really. Same exact movement, looks exactly the same except you're paying four times as much for a material that scuffs way more easily and just has a textured dial. Sure the finishing on the bracelet may look nicer out of the box but once it gets some wear it won't look so pretty. If you think that justifies a price point 4x that of a SARB, power to ya then, I guess.
"looks exactly the same"... but it doesn't. If you have held a SARX, you will know the quality difference immediately. The SARBs are nice, but the SARX really are on a different level.
The bracelet is better. Much better. It has sapphire glass with really kick ass double AR coating. The AR coating is worth every ounce of hype. The dia-shield coating is the real deal. The watch does not pick up scratches. My watch has picked up one scratch in four months - from a time it brushed up against a diamond (fucking diamond) - otherwise it looks just like it came out of the box.
But the finishing... the finishing you actually need to see under a jeweller's eye. The attention to detail on a millimeter scale is amazing.
Also this watch will play with any light available like a cheap strollop.
But yes, the movement is the same.
Thanks, yes, it is.
Come on people. The SARX055 does have a frosted dial, but not exactly like the Grand Seiko "real" snowflake texture. Nor does it have the Grand Seiko movement. It is a 6r15 movement that was selling for less than $300 before Seiko discontinued the SARB017. $1500+ dollars for this watch is TOO MUCH dinero, in my most humble opinion...
Which feels/looks premium? This or the Tudor Black Bay 36 on bracelet?
Can you say when the SKX 007 with sapphire will be available and give an indication of price; also will the 009 be modded as well?
Summer time, around the 399 mark I think. Not done yet.
Long Island Watch Thanks
Is the 6r15 known for being rattle-y? my sarb065 cocktail time is extra noisy when shaken lightly (up and down/vertically) even compared to all my other automatics.
I have a small wrist about 6.3 inches wrist, and j am considering buying this watch, is it too big for me ?
can you review a seiko sar023 and seiko sarb045?
Thanks in advance.
This is my next seiko .. I am looking for it for a while .. my wallet is in apprehension 😁
Haha! I understand!
Very Nice example of a Seiko
Thank you.
Hey Long Island watch, is there a physical shop somewhere? Or is it online order only? I am really on the verge of pulling the trigger, I just want to actually physically try one on my wrist.

arigatou!
Is this limited edition?
Do you happen to know if the seconds hand is heat-blued or painted on this model?
I actually do not know, and Seiko doesn't say. Great question.
Looking at all videos on YT from different angles I must suppose it is blued with heat not paint
Personally I’m looking forward to the SKX with Sapphire Glass!! 👍👍
Me too, LOL!
Is this out of stock? Don't see it on your site anymore.
Question for watch afficiandos. I recently tried some CK watches, yes Calvin Klein, yeah they're
Swiss made. I was totally blown away by their fit and finish. I'm not talking about the movement, just the case and bracelet finishing, design n craftsmanship... Just immaculate, reminded me of my Sarx 033.
Sure CK don't have sapphire crystal, but their domed glass looked a thing of beauty, no automatic movement n they're a fashion brand, but they're owned by Swatch and i was simply impressed by the finish of their watches. Would you advise me on picking one up over a possible Japanese watch? My main req is finesse and sharp quality of case n bracelet n crystal
I noticed your comment on a few other watch channels. Not sure if it's too late, but here's my opinion.
Honestly, just get whatever makes you feel better. You could get a "better" watch for the money, but at the end of the day, the only thing that really matters is how it makes you feel. If you think the ck watches look or feel nice and it makes you happy, then I don't see why you shouldn't get it. If anything, it might spark your interest in watches more and lead you to some of more mainstream brands like seiko or omega. Honestly, I started out with an MVMT watch and I thought it was amazing.
@@AbrasiveKumquat You are a class act. And hey, my SARX057 arrived today ...
I like your review, I need your advice ,
I am serching for the following specifications.

I hope u can help me to find.
Appreciate in advance.

Are they all Titanium?
Very very nice... But say Mark - , will this watch / movement still be working in--- lets say in 30 years- with the right service ? I´m thinking off buying two dfferent watches in this pricerange, and which my two boys can have later... cheers - Christian from Copenhagen
With proper service, absolutely.
Can somebody please tell me the exact watch he’s wearing on both wrists. My dad would love that for Christmas
Seiko automatic SARB033 and Seiko automatic divers SKX007
Impressive model! And that crystal! However, titanium doesn't make it for me. Is there the same in steel?
Not at this point
Yes Mark, that's a beauty!
It sure is!
No doubt this is a great watch. But it also explains why Seiko discontinued the Sarb033.
Maybe.
The best watch for the price !
Careful where you tread!
Gorgeous watch and a pukka review 👍🏻
How long until the modded SKX007 with the sapphire crystal is available?
Few weeks I'm hoping.
do you still have these?
Where can i get a same dial fron this seiko but cheaper?
Not much. SARX033 is close.
"They were locked in the room too long" Oh cripes :-> This is my one and only automatic. I wish they did this dial in a quartz model. Review is on the money in my humble opinion. Weight: check, dial: check (it is impossibly good even in low light - and I prefer it to most GS dials!), Crystal: check, Bracelet: check, No Lume: check and yabba dabba do! Polishing: check - not far off GS levels! Criticisms: (1) I wish it was quartz, (2) six ticks per second is very disappointing. I know there is a model with a better movement but is a lot more expensive. I have a lot of "wrist exposure" ie I play a lot of cards, chess and backgammon and as a property lawyer I am signing / witnessing a lot of documents. For those times this is my go-to watch. I have seen a few other rave reviews and all I can say is: 'Plus One'.
Your channel is one of best when you are searching something about watches.
Could you please make a review of the Longines V. H. P?
I'd really appreciate it
Thanks, but I generally only review watches sold in out store.
Hello, do you still carry this watch, please reply.
Tap on a clip to paste it in the text box.
Very confused between this or sarx 057 the black dial🤨
The white is the clear winner.
I definitely want one if and when the price ever goes down considerably!! Until then, I just can't afford it. ☹
That's OK. Just showing you what's out there.
Think you'll ever get the Sarb033 back in stock? Gone forever?
Brighton Billy You could be right but let's hope not.
Your best bet now is ebay where you can get one for about $350 usd or cheaper if you're lucky. But if you're in the market for one you better buy now because prices are going up quickly already.
There's already the SRPB71/SRP529/SARY057 with 4R36 - I think that's the SARB033 replacement.
LOL
Long Island Watch What a PLEASANT SURPRISE I found on the website this morning Marc!
OK, first off that SKX with the domed sapphire is dope! Are you guys thinking of the SKX009 with that crystal too? That SARX055 is gorgeous, I have always liked that watch, great dial and perfect size. If it had some lume on the hands ( like the SARB ) I would probably get one. I have a dress watch that doesn't get enough wrist time ( the blue dial Citizen NH8350-83L
automatic I got from you ).
John Clark Second that! 009 with super jubilee and domed sapphire.
It's coming!!!!
... and there was much rejoicing
Long Island Watch Is the 200m wr still guaranteed after the sapphire installation? Do you test them for water pressure? Txs
Its that sapphire crystal?
Do you still have these in stock?
Great video. Ty!
Thanks!
Next time you should start your video with " HEY HEY ITS MARC !!!" too read everyone's reaction :):) i was wearing sarb017 and skx013 while whatching this !!!
LOL, thank you!!!!
My easy solution is that I am travelling to visit my friends in Tokyo and will buy it from there for less than a $1000 and bring it back with me here to Sweden. In EU countries, this watch costs like $1500-$1600. I just go to Biccamera in Shinjuku and buy it and get a paper from the seller to get back my VAT when I leave Narita airport and will end up paying just above $800 for this beauty...
I love these videos that you make, but I was wondering why you don't really do these to women's watches in your store.
Because we cater 95% to men, and mostly carry only men's watches.
Long Island Watch 😂misogynist
the baby snowflake is undoubtedly gorgeous but i dont see how it can reasonably have a $1300 usd price tag when it has the same movement as the sarb line which even though discontinued you can find for around $600 cad. you basically pay for the dial, blued second hand and nicely crafted titanium case and bracelet. gorgeous but unjustified price imho.
That's why SARB was discontinued :(
I have to agree that for the price range, one would hope for an upgraded movement. Same could be told from ~$700 running with a 4R serie movement
Totally agree. Seiko's getting a little cocky me thinks....but, I'll still be buying them like a dummy!
JSarmat86 I've long wondered if Seiko made any money on the SARB series. As others have pointed out, they may be re-released, built down to a price. That being said, they are very proud of the Alpinist with its long history. I doubt they'll mess that one up.
The thing is, the mass-produced movement is actually the cheapest part. What sets most of the SARX line apart is the work that goes into the dial, case, bracelet and the overall finishing. Find similarly finished swiss watches for less than thrice the price... almost impossible. Btw. the 6r15 is a workhorse of a movement and goes well with many tiers of Seiko watches.
Beautiful watch but I would expect another movement from a €1K watch, not the same as in my €200 one.
wich watch do u have
@@Maxence-ro4vo The sarb 033.
Am I the only one who prefers by a wide margin the sarbs? Smaller, more beautiful case, no titanium, like, cheaper.
I love my SARB035, but mostly because it has lume on the hands, yet can still be worn as a dress watch. It might be one of the most flexible timepieces I own. The dial, titanium, and that invisible crystal justify the price. If you saw that SARX055 dial in person you would understand. It is like a macro shot of parchment, and just looks amazing.
John Taylor but sarx is two step forward and three steps backward. Imho this is not moving forward.
More beautiful case?? I have three SARB's (033, 035, 017) and in no way they are near the class of my SARX033.
Dale Taylor Jr., how do you mean that?
otobotrecords seriously don't know how that comment was added you yours. I was replying about the cost of he watches being a bargain for what you got. Lol.
Would love to see it in 36mm .
I do eBay and Mark is right about shipping overseas . It's gotten very expensive and you'll want to use a service with tracking and insurance .Not worth the few bucks you'd save .
Thank you!
Is it worth buying this seiko presage titanium?? What’s the daily accuracy of the watch???
Seiko will put it at +25 to -15 sec/day.
Hey Mark! Do you think you could tell me how to determine what year a SARB033 was made? I know its a bit random. Thanks!
It goes by the version of the 6R15 in it, and the first digit of the serial number.
I would buy this if it was 38mm
It is indeed a beautiful watch, but the moment of the crown does not line up. If it were perfect, the "S" of the crown would line up perfectly parallel with the crystal. I looked at the GS and it's crown's moment does not line up either. But I believe that the Rolex crown lines up on the newer models. As for the AR coating, does anyone know it the coating is on both the inside and outside of the crystal? The Omega Seamaster has a double AR coating and unfortunately, the outside coating easily scratches.
I love everything about it except for the 'Presage' on the dial.
Fair enough.
Melts on the wrist!
It does.
Will it be available for $700?
Yes, first pay $500, then you can pay $699
Long Island Watch Oh, thanks
does it keeps right time ?
Damn. I just wish it had minutes on the dial.
I call them Frozen lake :-)
That works.
can i get the damm 6r15 regulated?
I'll buy it after my graduation
The closest I’ll get to the real Snowflake is my SNKL41 in which I love.
If you love it, there's nothing wrong with it.
yeah the 6r15 is reliable and accurate but can you really blame someone for wanting a 28800 bph watch?
for the same price you could choose from some great in-house german watches with even more versatile styles (Sinn, Nomos, Damasko) and have a much smoother sweep.
Seiko fanboys are too hung up on the notion that their product's value can't be beat that they seem unaware when they're being let down.
People who complain about Seiko using this movement....really!!?? How many Swiss watches use the same ETA and charge anywhere from $900-$4500... quitcherbitching.
So true. Or they take an ETA, slightly modify it and call it their own.
for 130000yen I'd want a better movement than the 6R15. Really nice watch tho.
There's more to it than the movement, just consider that.
Save your money and get a real Grand Seiko Snowflake. Only 2k more if you search for it on Chrono.
Yakena1 only?
@@DerComputerist Yes, "only" in this context is right. Cause GS is whole another level elsewhere. This is from this perspective overpriced...
