lyrics:
So the other day
I found myself by your old home
The one with the garden apartment
near Humboldt Park, where you used to roam
and as I was going down that street
memories were flooding back to me
and Chicago was so much better
with you in it.
Skating with some friends
some buds that came in from out of town
they got an AirBNB
right down the street from where you used to hang around
and seeing that yard empty
made it so clear to me
That Chicago is so much better
with you in it.
So the other day
I found myself by your old home
The one with the garden apartment
near Humboldt Park, where you used to roam
and as I was going down that street
memories were flooding back to me
and Chicago was so much better
with you in it.
Miss you guys.

I was gonna say "classic scallon", and then the string quartet came in, so now it's like "classic scallon but with a string quartet." Love it

Robs singing has really improved in the past 3 years.
Almost like practice pays off

The enthusiasm in "We got the train!" is so tangable and real, you love to see it
I was wondering if they had that planned two seconds before he shouted about it X)
I love how melancholic and innocent this song is, the string arrangement really pulls it together and adds a really nice depth
It's been two years
Memento Mori.

I really like Robs Singing and it could be just me but I feel he's gotten better.
Definitely. You can hear it getting better with every First of October album with the latest one being his peak.
I feel like the first of october is really helping him practice his vocals. Hes genuinely pretty good now.
No, it's not you at all. He's definitely gotten better. And we were all here watching him improve. 🤗
The First of October videos made me think he was taking lessons. This here looks like an unschooled but more confident voice though, so I'm not sure.
In so many singers, technical ability comes at the expense of feeling. What makes this a good performance is that he's singing from the heart. That's the most important singing skill there is.
@@edward8597 it sounds nice, healthy and confident. It definitely takes back to his older songs like musical mad libs, but sounds a whole lot better
This made me cry for the third time and made me want to move back to Chicago. We love you, Rob.
A living example of what happens when an artist is fully unleashed with strong support and a great team.
This feels somehow very familiar.
Is it for you? Lucky!
all the best songs do
From an insignificant outside perspective, I'm glad you had a good time with your friend. It's like the feeling of walking in the park and looking around to see people hugging. It's heartwarming to see even if I'm behind a screen or keeping to the trail (like with the park from the metaphor from before, you know what I mean).

God this is some incredible work Rob. Love the string arrangement.

You don't hear too many songs that are about missing a friend. This is the second song rob wrote for a friend. Thought that was interesting. Nice to hear something different than love or love lost
I've never left the Southern hemisphere, but damn this makes me want to move back to Chicago.

The beginning with only Rob playing and singing sounded like something that could’ve been on The Glow, Pt. 2, lovely!
never thought i'd see someone mention The Microphones on one of Rob's vids, lol, but it really does remind me of that album too
the beginning almost reminds me of a song like the pull
@@user-ub8vx8zd1d can definitely see that, wonderfully entrancing song!
Was about to say I'm getting strong Phil Elverum vibes from this, I wonder if Rob was somehow inspired by him

I feel like the almost spoken word tone (apart from the harmonizing) is a really nice contrast to the overwhelming beauty of the strings, the simplicity of it just works so well together
Heck yes. I always love when rob sings. His voice is so honest and unique
Yes. Everyone elses' voices are LIES!!!!!
I think the train right at the end really sealed the message of the song
The timing of the El going by with “Chicago Made” on the side was incredible.

I really appreciate this small cute track. Feels alot like winter months, which I adore.
This made me ugly cry and think of all the old times and people I’ve lost touch with after going to college. Beautiful and touching song.
I work for a client who has an office right down the street from where this was shot. That little alleyway with all the art (you can see the mural at the beginning) is such a magical, cool place I found myself wandering around for hours. Awesome video!
It's been a rough week, but this was a great little birthday gift to wake up to. My friends have helped me through a lot recently and you better believe I'm sending this to them. Thanks Rob
happy birthday!!!
Happy birthday friend!
Happy birthday bro

Chicago is also better off with you in it! Beautiful song.
Beautiful. Can't really say much more than that. Just...elegantly beautiful.
What a lovely song for some friends, reminds me of your earlier stuff, and the orchestra/string quartet sounds beautiful too. 😁
I need an entire album like this. You made me cry my heart out Rob this was beautiful.
I think the winter months by rob is the closest you'll get to it
What a sweet and touching song. Hope your friends like it. Thanks for sharing.
I wish this song was longer. This is an amazing song.

I never met you in person before I left Chicago, but it touches me that you can sense my absence.
This song actually made me missed my friends I made in college. Haven't seen any of them 3 years... I might contact them soon.
It made me cry for the friends who aren’t with us any more. It does make me want to contact the ones who still are
Often your work comes from the giggle bone or is about generously showing what others are doing. This song is clear and direct from your heart and it is beautiful. Thank you for your song.

Couldn't be happier to be approaching the winter months. :)
I like just as he sang Chicago, the train says Chicago made on the side.
Rob, please, make an album with this sound. I would do anything.
This should have WAY more views.
He always makes really pretty songs he's probably one of the best internet musicians

Very touching song! It reminds me -in more ways than one- of Porcupine Tree's "Feel so low"
Don Maclean X Kermit... AWESOME!
How aching and innocent, too. Well-done.
Wow this is one of those songs that I feel everyone can connect with personally

What a lovely gift and a beautiful song!
That's a very good song that you wrote! 👍👍👍❤❤❤
I'm glad you got the train; that'll bring 'em back for sure.
God, i absolutely love Rob's voice. This song reminds me so much of The Winter's Months album, one of my favorite albums period, so this was such a pleasant surprise.
Living in Chicago in the lakeview area this hit home hahah awesome job!
This has got some serious Weezer Screeners vibe ! love it
If only life could be like this
Aw man, I love this!

this is SO beautiful Rob! Such a sweet song. Lovely lovely lovely. Well done to all involved. Plus that train timing was immaculate! This whole vibe is part of what music is all about
That was beautifully sweet, Rob.
Thanks for the song but..... Chicago... Never coming back!
Well that was unexpectedly heartwarming.
If they ever need a new voice for Kermit the Frog, Scallon is in with a chance…. Give him a banjo and “Rainbow Connection” and he’s on a winner! Lol
Nice work!
This made my day, and I've never even been to Chicago 😹.
Lot's of Love from the Netherlands ❤️
If Rob put this out there it would be in the TikTok, Spotify and Billboard charts fs
Reminds me of my friends I left back in Chicago. I wonder how they’re doing.
Absolutely amazing.
Something about the way you sang that made me think of Seasons in the Sun.
Short Song 2, love it Rob!
Reminds me of your old days! Love the style and the string quartet, but most importantly the el train that went by just for you. 😊
Rob's Voice is so beautiful with the strings!
with every first of october, rob improves his singing sooooo much. it's haloween is my favourite song from Chaos, the harmonies rob pulled are awesome.

The world is so much better with you in it ❤️
wow! Heart warming!
This is so sweet and I’m loving Robs voice the whole video being one take it’s just Mwuah chefs kiss
I love that the giutarlele still has blood on it from Sunday Uke Group 🤣🤣
Hmm old Rob but he sings with an orchestra now. I remember when he used to play his songs with only his strings singing. Nice song.
Beautiful and heartbreaking 💔
Sure is a heart warming song rob
Beautiful little diddy, Rob. The strings are just icing on the cake!

Ty very much and take care, bro! Hope those dark times pass by and some day see you in real, hugging you tight, like we russians love)
Rob´s voice is beautyfull
Reminds me of Jim Guthrie's "Now more than ever" with that heartfelt folk and strings combo, beautiful!
Maaan! Sylvester Stallone plays that violin incredibly!
This is so incredible! Love the original songs
This is beautifully wholesome
That was great. I love seeing the train again. I stayed at a friend’s house in Chicago for several days. I loved everything about it.

This is a very nice song!
