Quite literally one of the best anime I've seen in a long time. I watched this so long along (gonna rewatch it soon) and everything about it is just amazing. Tomoko is truly one of the best realistic characters in anime, from plotting out how to leave a restaurant so that no one notices her, to just generally being an awkward loser. There's nothing about this girl that screams self-insert _fantasy_ like something you'd see from the likes of Oregairu (Hachiman is basically set up with girls since episode 1). It's amazing how good something can be when it is so damn honest. The manga makes it all the better with progression that is not only good for Tomoko as a character but sends a good message to people like her that it's not as bad as it seems when you too are in a circle of friends, all the more when these particular individuals are equally human as her having their fair share of quirks that make them who they are. I might go and reread the manga soon just to feed myself what greatness that has slipped out of my memory across the times. Thank god for Nico Tanigawa.
Man, we really need season 2 so much. Unlike Komi-san where the social anxiety exists just for the gap moe, this one actually shows how Tomoko slowly grow out of her anxiety and gain confidence to just be herself. And turns out, everyone has their own weirdness, lol

i relate to her so much. honestly, she's the best social anxiety representation in anime, at least between every character i know (and trust me, i know a lot of shy/anxious characters - but, if anyone does know any other good representations, i would love to watch anything suggested!). i did not read the manga but plan to do so when i got the chance. i hope her story didn't get worse like many other good mangas that lost the good representation or simply stop being as good at it was
i just finished the anime today and i hope they release more episodes soon. I actually cried a bit because of how i can relate to her loneliness and social anxiety
Her life hits home. I got social anxiety and I'm currently living in a foreign country where I couldn't properly speak the language. I nervously laugh when people ask me a question I couldn't comprehend or either I stay away from people to so i couldn't engage to conversations. Until that one time, I decided to hang out with some people so I could improve speaking with it, I forced myself to the fullest but in the end it was a fail, I got my first panic attack and i disrupted the class entirely. After that, I never tried it again until a really kind person approached me so I didn't let this pass and took the opportunity to improve myself and my well being, now I got alot of great friends to socialise with but there's still some things I wanted to Improve like comforting a friend or starting a conversation without awkwardly ending it immediately
It’s surreal to watch this scene and compare to later manga chapters where Tomoko finally has a weird friend group. She’s no longer depressed but still a cynical pervert that says awful things, and now she has quirky girls who accepts her as she is. And physically punch her when she crosses a line like perving on them
Sadly, japanese people loves a moe chara, as like as Komi "mary sue" chan or Hitori "k-on reminder"... Tomoko is a "negative" chara for those people...
@t.p.9434 I agree w U a little, let me talk about: Komi and Bocchi the rock R 2 very "broken" charas. An easy and introvert person who is very popular for nothing, is absolutely stupid (4 me), I used to be that guy... Dude, i never wasnt popular doing that guy, today M a little different (things about growin up), but that type of charas make me feel angry... (Sorry 4 my english, M LatAmerican, i did my best 2 tell you my point of view in my basic english)
At this point, I can only pray that we’ll get a second season after all these years. I’m just thankful that the manga has gotten better and has stayed popular enough in Japan to warrant fanarts here and there. Hopefully interest for a second season will rise again.
What I like about this moment is how Real it is To be "True" to someone and find it easy to love them, only for them to not recognize you neither you recognize them is...Real Sometimes you're so Hellbent on something you want, you forget what is Right There in front of you, and lose so many opportunities like Getting Girlfriend or Having an Easy Job because of chasing an unreachable dream. I may be thinking Way Too Much, but this is what I'm getting from This Moment.
I remember years ago when I was fairly new to anime, I watched this a and was grossed out, but I recently went back with my more mature self and realized how much of a satire this was to social anxiety in Japan, not that its a bad thing, just awed by the message it sends, pretty much a "darker" version of Hitoribocchi
Лично мне она нравится за свою натуральность, она не идеальная и это её фишка Personally, I like her for her naturalness, she is not perfect and this is her chip.
Somehow it gives me the same vibe like the last scene from End of Evangelion, i mean there's no big ending or something, no conclusion - it just cuts off. Not a bad thing actually i like when a series ends and leaves you with mouth open and millions of thoughts

I’d love to see this show get a few new seasons. I’m relived to see her character grow with each volume of the manga, she’s definitely one of my favorite anime characters
I can understand why the anime didn't continue, seeing as the manga really made a hard swerve off a sheer cliff. Not that I don't like the manga, but it just lost all relatabillity when she suddenly turned into the most popular girl in school, at least among the girls, plus that a lot of characters had their personalities almost reversed, like her brother and komi-something-san. If the manga ends with it all having been one of her daydreams, that would probably be preferable.
She got better, shows development that she isn't like her weird self anymore, the manga should've just ended at that but it kept going which was weird.
@@Blue-ng7me I don't know if I agree with that, sure she's more subdued now, but anytime she does share her thoughts they're just as bad as they used to be, only now she has some sort of ironic self-hate sorta, like she knows that what she's saying is weird but she says it anyways. And everyone's just, oh that's just Tomoko being Tomoko. On the one hand, a message like you shouldn't have to change to get popular is nice and all, but there's also no way she would ever have become popular by staying who she is, in Japan of all places where the ones who stand out gets ostracized or put in their place. Yet she just became popular by having two girls take pity on her and then it just snowballed from there. I don't think pity is a good base for friendship, and she hasn't really changed, just toned it down a couple of notches. And yet she became this maelstrom of change for everyone around her by just existing pretty much. Not to mention that she was in that class for I think 2 terms, or 1 and a half, being an unpopular outcast before suddenly becoming the center of the universe. It never really made any sense to me, I even tried re-reading the manga to pinpoint the moment it all turned, which was that class trip in her second term I think, and then it just built from there. Plus the title of the series doesn't even make sense anymore. Such a weird turn from what it set out to portray. So yeah, it's just not the same thing anymore, you're probably right in that they should have ended it and made a different series instead.
I love how they show us that "angle" that normally reveals some fanservicey pantyshot but instead it's the back of this girl's long skirt and the length of it is so exaggerated and wide that it almost feels like a depressing void of blank beige
Is that true that the anime and manga ilustration is different?? Like (Sorry to saying this😖🙏🏻🙏🏻) in manga the Art draw it's nothing special, but i like the All chapter i read in Online manga though😅
Is anyone else getting Teen Titans vibes from the last episode where Beast Boy tries to reunite with Terra but she’s a schoolgirl who wants nothing to do with him anymore?

@@definitivamenteestuculpaqu8462 There is always hope. I mean, even "The Devil is a Part-timer!" have a second season after many years. Panty and Stocking is also getting a new anime.
@@KevinDSaputra my idea to think that there will not be a second season is more than anything because the writer and the mangaka of watamote do not seem to be eager to release another anime after the first one failed in japan, clearly right now the manga is quite popular, I I really like this analogy where watamote fans are like crabs under the rocks of a beach, since at first glance there are few but under the stones there are too many, something like that happens with manga now it all depends on what the authors want and can get someone who wants to release its second season, if it is for hope seeing that this special girl anime genre like komi or nagatoro is becoming fashionable, it remains to wait and pray but the truth is that I have little faith in it
Wait, is this an after credits scene? I thought the season ended with her running away while her best girl friend tries to follow her. I watched this 10 years ago and am just learning this, huh.
That’s the beauty of the anime. It’s meant to leave you hanging. We don’t see much progress out of Tomoko throughout the whole season, and that’s exactly why it’s so good. It’s realistic, it’s cringey, it’s sad, it’s everything that it needs to be. I think too much overt progress would make it feel less real, and outside of maybe NHK, Watamote does a very good job at staying grounded, which many anime fail at doing effectively. It’s one of the first times I’ve watched an anime and thought to myself, “Wow, I can actually relate to this character on a personal level.” Even through all the gags and jokes at her expense, it still felt like Tomoko actually had depth and struggles to work through, however long and grueling it may be.
@@SomberSora I don't like how the anime left off. I prefer the manga because of the themes of self improvement. The anime feels more like a gimmick when I look back at it,
@@toxicchameleon I feel like the anime does Tomoko more justice than the manga, not that the manga is bad and I think the author did a good job at pushing Tomoko out of her shell, but it falls to a similar fate of Komi Can’t Communicate where the overt progress feels forced. In the anime, we’re left with the story of a girl dealing with, and struggling through, crippling social anxiety, and the way it’s portrayed made it feel realistic, rather than falling flat as a character trope only there for the plot or to progress the plot.
@@SomberSora bro it's not the author's fault if you can't progress. He wants his characters to grow and inspire people to do the same. If it was the same thing for 400 chapters then it becomes seldom and forgettable, however when there's actual improvement and evolution, the series can always renew itself and explore more of itself for the viewers
@@jooj4296 There’s something compelling, in my opinion, about realistically portraying mental health in media, because it’s something we don’t do and people seem to not understand. People with a disorder don’t just up and get over it one day, it takes a tireless effort over years, sometimes decades, and sometimes there isn’t overt progress even within such a large time frame. That’s something WataMote did very well at portraying realistically. Even though Tomoko tries and tries every episode over months, she still makes negligible progress. She even has struggles within her attempts where she may even hurt her relationship with others (I.e. her apathy and jaded cynicism to her classmates that she shows throughout the entire season, even though she wants to be friends with those same people, an inner conflict that is all too real). While a lot of anime use mental health and the lot as a trope to increase a character’s cuteness, WataMote did the opposite. It portrayed social anxiety as crippling, and it portrayed depression as a teenager extremely well, notably the way it manifests in short temper and cynicism rather, on top of the lack of motivation to change aspect.
To those wondering Tomoko becomes a lesbian (or at least, gets a lesbian harem) and doesn’t even talk about boys anymore. So yeah she gets very different as the manga goes on.
Juts have to love how 20 comments deep there is n mention of the name of this thing, but an endless barrage of how the manga gets even better after this. But now, after learning the name I honesty get it since it is "Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dō Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!".

i relate to her so much. honestly, she's the best social anxiety representation in anime, at least between every character i know (and trust me, i know a lot of shy/anxious characters - but, if anyone does know any other good representations, i would love to watch anything suggested!). i did not read the manga but plan to do so when i got the chance. i hope her story didn't get worse like many other good mangas that lost the good representation or simply stop being as good at it was
>ACK
Bocchi (no, not bocchi the rock) Bocchi wants to be friends is much more accurate
See you space cowgirl...
i just finished the anime today and i hope they release more episodes soon. I actually cried a bit because of how i can relate to her loneliness and social anxiety
I don't think theyre gonna release anymore episodes soon
What chapter to continue the story?
@@saltysalt844around 34 i think. Tho this is a bit late eh

I agree w U a little, let me talk about:
Komi and Bocchi the rock R 2 very "broken" charas.
I just wanna give her a hug
Girl didn't even apologize
Aaah, I miss her, probably the best anime never made.
Hopefully the anime has a comeback, I feel like old anime has been getting more seasons recently. And that the manga gets really better after season 1
I remember watching Watamote during Spring Break in quarantine last year, and it will forever be a core memory 💖
At this point, I can only pray that we’ll get a second season after all these years. I’m just thankful that the manga has gotten better and has stayed popular enough in Japan to warrant fanarts here and there.
Hopefully interest for a second season will rise again.
The end of the 13th episode of Watamote reminds me a bit of the end of Kimi No Na Wa if it was a bad ending.
Wow, I was expecting the freak out but it seems she's grown a bit. Proud of her, kinda.
I aware of the anime for some time. I just got into the manga side of Watamote recently. I enjoying it so far.
God, I miss Tomoko so much 😭😭😭
What I like about this moment is how Real it is
To be "True" to someone and find it easy to love them, only for them to not recognize you neither you recognize them is...Real
Sometimes you're so Hellbent on something you want, you forget what is Right There in front of you, and lose so many opportunities like Getting Girlfriend or Having an Easy Job because of chasing an unreachable dream.
I may be thinking Way Too Much, but this is what I'm getting from This Moment.
i miss her bros...
Tomoko; my princess, my queen...
that's the spirit
I remember years ago when I was fairly new to anime, I watched this a and was grossed out, but I recently went back with my more mature self and realized how much of a satire this was to social anxiety in Japan, not that its a bad thing, just awed by the message it sends, pretty much a "darker" version of Hitoribocchi
And then I started the manga. Well, both anime and manga are awesome.
SHE'S SO ADORABLE!! And as someone mentioned, she's making progress 🥺💖
tomoko is literally me xd
This anime is basically bocchi the rock but without any gifted talent for tomoko
Tomoko is academically smart though
Man, I miss this series. Tomoko was so relatable, and it feels like we haven't gotten another character like her since.
I’ve been waiting for so fucking long we need a season 2
And now she has a big group of friends 🥲
This one of comedy anime were I can't laugh genuinely to the comedic part of her being ruining her life, that is just so sad.
😢😢I miss seeing this anime

Words can't describe how much I'll miss her.

This anime bummed me out ☹️
This deserves a second season the manga is amazing
Yeah I read the manga in Highschool!
Tomoko is my number 1 waifu, she is so cute still relatable

Somehow it gives me the same vibe like the last scene from End of Evangelion, i mean there's no big ending or something, no conclusion - it just cuts off. Not a bad thing actually i like when a series ends and leaves you with mouth open and millions of thoughts
If Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt can come back after 12 YEARS then she can too.
This anime taught me the word and feeling of "Secondhand embarrassment"
The word is "cringe"
Hopefully the good kind of cringe
I had fun watching the anime but Total Unit (aka DWK) really gave me a deeper appreciation of her character
I haven’t watched this in YEARS!!
all the comments are fresshh :3

If this series gets a season 2 in a couple of years i would just burst out in exicitement
I love how they show us that "angle" that normally reveals some fanservicey pantyshot but instead it's the back of this girl's long skirt and the length of it is so exaggerated and wide that it almost feels like a depressing void of blank beige
I forgot about this masterpiece
Really wish this got a sequel. The manga is great these days (and I gotta continue it).
Is that true that the anime and manga ilustration is different??

Is anyone else getting Teen Titans vibes from the last episode where Beast Boy tries to reunite with Terra but she’s a schoolgirl who wants nothing to do with him anymore?
I'm sure at some point the story will continue on the anime. I mean they cant stop there after it got so good on the last episode put out. I wanna see more that the manga had to offer
SEASON 2 NOW
well it's been 10 years since the first anime
@@definitivamenteestuculpaqu8462 There is always hope. I mean, even "The Devil is a Part-timer!" have a second season after many years. Panty and Stocking is also getting a new anime.
@@KevinDSaputra my idea to think that there will not be a second season is more than anything because the writer and the mangaka of watamote do not seem to be eager to release another anime after the first one failed in japan, clearly right now the manga is quite popular, I I really like this analogy where watamote fans are like crabs under the rocks of a beach, since at first glance there are few but under the stones there are too many, something like that happens with manga now it all depends on what the authors want and can get someone who wants to release its second season, if it is for hope seeing that this special girl anime genre like komi or nagatoro is becoming fashionable, it remains to wait and pray but the truth is that I have little faith in it
God I miss her
Wait, is this an after credits scene? I thought the season ended with her running away while her best girl friend tries to follow her. I watched this 10 years ago and am just learning this, huh.
It's from the episode 13 ova.
Komi San can't comunicate if was real
Yep, good observation. Komi-san is an idealized, fantasy version of reality. Watamote is what it would actually be like.
@@Archedgar there is an one shot where we see the real versión Of Komi San and is Very sad
I feel so sorry for her.
this anime makes me sad bec shes so LONER like me 😭
I wish we had a season 2 to at least see her's lesbian harem start
