The funny thing is in the manga, her super awkward and weird quirks are what draws people around her to her in the end, and she basically ends up as like the absolute center of attention for almost every friend she makes, and she makes a LOT of friends. Yuri harem, almost.

this is my comfort anime for like so many reasons.. mostly its because i really relate to tomoko and i think the same way she does. i was so surprised when she would say some things that i think of all the time? it was so accurate it was kinda scary.. the ending song also makes me feel some type of way, it makes me want to close my eyes and i feel alive. I just get so happy when someone mentions the anime or if i just see tomoko
She sings really nicely. The parts where her voice sounds raspy, make it sound like she's either breaking down crying or is very scared or upset. As the song goes on, she sounds like she's getting more and more upset until she starts crying during the song towards the end. That's what I like about the song.
I remember vibing so much with this anime back when I was in high school. General communication is hard, so a lot of people thought I'm a weirdo. I'm also unattractive, to the point my mom told me I had "ugly, messy face". I often had lunch alone. My friend gradually lost interest in me and found another. Sometimes I cried alone in bathroom, kept blaming myself for being unsociable That was in past tho. Let's just say over the years, I'm able to make friends, gain awareness to taking care of myself, and now able talking to hundreds of people. Time do heals everything

The lyrics really relate to me ngl. A girl with social anxiety, trying to get herself to talk but she just can’t. It’s too scary. I’m alot like this, and people often make fun of me for being so quiet. They call me emo for some reason, and they all think i’m weird. Then there’s me, calling myself an idiot for not being able to do something like talking. It’s so hard to make friends, and when I do I’m always so clingy because they’re all I have.

Spoilers..kinda? . . . . . . . . . . . I’m so glad Tomoko gets better in the end. She doesn’t think of fantasies every time she bumps into someone, nor does she panic. The only thing we need to fix now is the fact people keep comparing her to Komi from Komi can’t communicate. Just because they both have social anxiety, doesn’t mean they’re experiences will be the exact same. In fact, I think if they were able to communicate, I think they’d get a long quite well!
This anime is so finely right it scares me , if you pay attention or even listen to the song you can hear her crying through the lyrics , its showing yes she is putting in the effort to sing the song but she doesnt care if shes crying or screaming , it shows just how depressing this show actually is.
To everyone who watches and says they see themselves in Tomoko: I used to be there too. You can get better. You can improve. You have to just keep thrusting yourself into uncomfortable situations. Keep practicing telling jokes, the first 100 will fail. But sooner or later you will start to get an occasional joke landing. Who cares if at first only 1 out 5 jokes land. Nobody will remember the minor embarrassing thing you did, only petty teens who will forget it in a matter of months. All opportunities where you can choose between "Going to social interactions and being awkward or just staying alone and playing games/something" ALWAYS PICK THE FIRST! Nietzsche advocated the abstaining of alcohol, because those feelings of shame, awkwardness, or inadequacy are our greatest motivation for improving ourselves and being the best we can be. Overcome escapism, overcome apathy, overcome substances that give you an excuse to lower your inhibitions. I know you can do it because I have done it. Then once you have done it use your new people skills and absolute empathy for those who are where you were when you read this to help them raise themselves up as well! Believe in me who believes in you!
Thank you! Also I reccommend listening to a song called "Eccentric" by Keyakizaka46. The message is that it's okay to be weird, strange or awkward, because you have the freedom to live however you want to and that you shouldn't care about people's judgements. The song helped me to deal better with my social anxiety.
Bruh the best way to learn social skills imo is to just do small talk. Ask them questions and tell them about your life a little. If that doesnt work try it with another person. Thats how i got out of my social anxiety teen years.
Dude.. the way the upbeat instrumental contrasts the depressing lyrics and Izumi's desperate voice in this song is just... damn. Not to mention that this song is the outro to an anime about a teenage girl with social anxiety who barely has any friends. I cry whenever I listen to this, which says a lot because as a WataMote fan I'm used to the cringe, misunderstandings, etc. The vocals play a big part in making this song trigger the waterworks. The anime is Watamote for some who wanna know, I recommend it for people who are anti-social Although it might be really depressing, they some how make the anime a little bit fun.

This song is literally giving me goosebumps. I relate to her so much. I basically have no friends, I have trouble making friends and talking to others? Oh boy my social anxiety would never allow it. Because of that I turn to others things like social media online, playing games,etc. The intrusive thoughts are also something I think about alot, its a bit frightening how on spot they were with the intrusive thoughts. If 11-13 yr old me heard this anime, mc would be spot on as to how I was during that time. Now i'm not as relatable, but still pretty relatable to her.

I can't believe how numb I was to Tomoko's depression when I first watched this anime. I sympathized with her completely, but I was utterly oblivious. Now that I'm older, I can relate. People are hard, finding love is hard, conforming to what the world think is normal is so much harder than I ever thought it'd be. Now that I'm older, I can see her pain and not only sympathise with her, but I can feel empathy for her.

wait now this anime have become popular? I remember the time it came out and i watched it when i was a high schooler back in early 2010'. Every social reject has a (in better case only just a) phase when they feel the same as her. Those who havent experienced it in first hand probably thinks tomoko is cringe or annoying but for many shes one of the few anime characters tehy can/could relate to. also the name is "Watamote" to anyone who wanna watch it. Recommend it to any weirdo out there who was bullied and felt more than not alone in their teen years.
As a social reject, wanting to be popular I can some-what relate to tomoko. Anxiety can really take a toll on people's feelings and opinion on things. Feeling as if everything is social-suicide and going to affect everyone's opinion on you. This is my comfort anime knowing its easy for me to relate to tomoko.
I remember watching this in 7th grade but I had to drop it cause the mc was painfully relatable and 13 years old me was not ready for that kind of self-awareness
I forgot about this Anime until I realized that Prettycvnt used samples from this song. I remember I was like, 9, or smth when I found this anime on Demand. I had no idea how actually depressing it was at that time. Now im 14, and finally realized how shitty of a life Tomoko ended up getting. Her trying to live up to Japanese beauty standards constantly, thinking being popular will mean she’s accepted and will have friends. Not to mention that she ignores her social anxiety and how lonely she feels through video games, specifically Otomes, which I feel on a personal level. I hope I can rewatch this anime at some point, since this was one of my early animes that I just chose cause it looked nice. And i wanna see what I didnt pick up when I was still oblivious to Societal standards.

I’m so glad Tomoko gets better in the end. She doesn’t think of fantasies every time she bumps into someone, nor does she panic. The only thing we need to fix now is the fact people keep comparing her to Komi from Komi can’t communicate. Not to mention that this song is the outro to an anime about a teenage girl with social anxiety who barely has any friends.

This song is literally giving me goosebumps. I relate to her so much. I basically have no friends, I have trouble making friends and talking to others? Oh boy my social anxiety would never allow it. Because of that I turn to others things like social media online, playing games,etc. The intrusive thoughts are also something I think about alot, its a bit frightening how on spot they were with the intrusive thoughts. If 11-13 yr old me heard this anime, mc would be spot on as to how I was during that time. Now i'm not as relatable, but still pretty relatable to her.

I can't believe how numb I was to Tomoko's depression when I first watched this anime. I sympathized with her completely, but I was utterly oblivious. Now that I'm older, I can relate. People are hard, finding love is hard, conforming to what the world think is normal is so much harder than I ever thought it'd be. Now that I'm older, I can see her pain and not only sympathise with her, but I can feel empathy for her.

As a social reject, wanting to be popular I can some-what relate to tomoko. Anxiety can really take a toll on people's feelings and opinion on things. I forgot about this Anime until I realized that Prettycvnt used samples from this song. I remember I was like, 9, or smth when I found this anime on Demand. I had no idea how actually depressing it was at that time. Now im 14, and finally realized how shitty of a life Tomoko ended up getting. Her trying to live up to Japanese beauty standards constantly, thinking being popular will mean she’s accepted and will have friends. Not to mention that she ignores her social anxiety and how lonely she feels through video games, specifically Otomes, which I feel on a personal level. I hope I can rewatch this anime at some point, since this was one of my early animes that I just chose cause it looked nice. And i wanna see what I didnt pick up when I was still oblivious to Societal standards.
