If you are new to fishing follow this man right here. I have been enjoying the information that Roland gives out for 30 plus years now. Even though I'm not a beginner fisherman I still watch his videos just to see if there's something new to learn. The information he gives you will get you in the ballpark but if you want to hit a home run you need to practice practice practice. And remember everybody has their own technique. He's teaching you how to basically succeed at casting. From you practicing is where you get better. You don't need water to practice. If you have a decent size backyard go out there and practice. I remember following his advice on casting a baitcaster. Just like I said he got me in the ballpark and it took practice to hit a homerun. Just remember if you are practicing on dirt for rocks make sure you change your line out. You will be very upset with yourself if you go to hook into a big one and your lines snaps. Merry Christmas Roland to your entire family, I hope you have a great holiday and a wonderful new year.
@@-wood-4067 Thanks I missed them somehow. Have you ever seen NDYAKangler? Best smallmouth fishing videos I have ever seen. Although I haven't seen Roland's yet;}
As a guy that held his rod upside down for years when I was a teen (no one ever taught me), I can say that I really would've appreciated this video back then!
Roland, if you're as right dominant as I am, you end up casting with your right hand for distance, then switching the rod to the left hand to reel in with the right hand! Totally agree with the polarized sunglasses - fished with them for 40 years... worthwhile getting a lanyard to hold them though, otherwise they end up on the bottom.
Thanks Roland, I'm gonna get back into spinning reels, braided line with fluorocarbon leader, double uni knots this year. And of course , senko worms. All stuff you have taught me. Thanks!
Been watching Roland for 34 years since I was a little kid. He is a true pro, fishing is my life mainly catfishing. But I have always fished for trout and bass, wiper, carp all freshwater species. But I always fished just crankbaits, currly tial jigs and mostly spinnerbaits when I bass fished. I'm learning finesse and fishing worms, senkos, craws, creature baits and I don't know if I just haven't slowed down enough to be successful at soft plastic fishing or what. But I have been going bass fishing allot lately and haven't done to well. I'm either not getting to the fish since we're in a record drought here or I'm not fishing the soft plastics at the right speed or technique. But I love bass fishing so I won't give up. just got to keep trying.
I'm a fly fisher and i want to start spin fishing,i haven't used a spin rod and reel since i was about 8 years old i really enjoy your videos i watched you in the 80's and 90's you are the man!! Thank you for this channel it will help out a lot of people and me!
I fish like a mad man and i can say Roland is giving Superb pro tips for the beginner! Best fisherman of all time!!! Go Roland Go!!! Thank you for all the videos your infectious Roland!!! lol
Lookin sharp Mr. Martin! Thanks for the video. And yeah, I’m that weirdo that is right handed and reels with my right hand on a spinning rod! One of these days I’m gonna get me one of those favorite jack hammer spinning rod!
Thank you, as a long time fly fisherman I needed the tips on using a spinning reel/rod system. Always wear eye protection, hooks in the eye are a horrible thing.
Good job! One thing you could have done was show when to turn your line lose casting over handed. I have showed kids and grown up how to cast. I get a lot of good laughs ( with them not at them) at them casting straight up. I was wanting to see you do it . Lol.
one aspect braid vs mono is that with mono you don’t deal with leaders as often making it easier to cast. braid does have less memory and less prone to wind knots
Just use mono if you are a beginner fishing from the bank. If you find yourself fishing a lot, then transition to braid and learn to tie fluorcarbon leaders for anything that sinks.
Very helpful video. Im new and using a spincast right now. Hopefully will get my first spinning combo soon. Good to know 7 foot rod, medium action and a 30 reel. Thanks.
It's too bad that probably 95 % of pond's in south florida are posted no fishing and if any kid's try to fish the law gets called on them. I would bet money that pond your standing at was off limits to everyone except you.
That's great, but here BPS owns a pond right beside the building as well and you will get ran off. It's ridiculous how harmless kid's fishing is but so many places are posted. Kid's won't stay interested in fishing if they only get to fish once a month. Like I mentioned most of florida is posted, it's a rich mans sport. When I was kid their we're tons of opportunities. Tons of problems that you can't fix and aren't your fault or your problem, thanks for the reply.

Been fishing for 20+ years and I gotta show love to my favorite fishing teachers channel.
As a guy that held his rod upside down for years when I was a teen (no one ever taught me), I can say that I really would've appreciated this video back then!
Roland, I really enjoyed your guest appearance on Ike LIVE, and yes you are a GREAT Teacher. Thank you for keeping it simple.

You can also use a ball bearing swivel super small and easier to tie too
This guy has been teaching me how to fish since the TNN morning lineup

Needed this! Have several of hubby’s spinner reels... learning how to use them. Nice tutorial!

To tell the truth that the way a see most of the people and myself do , I think the weirdo is Mr Martin on this poinrt .
Great advice Roland! We have to train the next generation.
Thank you for the flying fisherman sun glasses info
Thank you Roland for such great teaching videos.

Appreciate the vidoe Roland. Been using spinning rods and reels most of my life and still had some tricks to learn.

Would like to see you do something on the drag. Love your content.

Dude is the dale earnhardt of fishing 🙌🏽
I will follow your advice to teach my 7-year-old daughter how to cast better, thanks Rolland.
Bro Roland.. ur just an old Teacher...you can’t help it... well taught brother,,,
Great video
Thanks, Roland.
Btw, I just got a Bass Pro ‘’ Gold Cup ‘’ 7’6’’ rod , I like a bit longer rod for my spinning reals,,,
been fishing 25 years, how come I can watch Roland's beginner video and still learn something? ??
Roland, what brand of glasses do you wear? How shaded are they? I’d like to get some very close to what you wear. Love your program so much!
Oh, come on Mr Martin , you put it by the midle of the patch cuz you are a superpro.
Looking sharp son..go kick their butt on the bassmaster trail ✌
Thanks Roland
What about using straight fluorocarbon on a spinning reel?
Love ya big man ❤️
I star fishing with spinners but it kill my wrist , now I use baitcastin and love them
What Brand of Sun Glasses do you recommend?
Use flying fisherman
I’m a guide in South Florida. All we use for clients is a spinning rod. That’s all I use any more and we catch a lot of fish. Stay Simple
Thank you sir
I'll bet Roland could out fish me with that casting weight.
See ya on the next one,,,
tell us how expensive your watch is next!
I went to local bait shop the manger showed me how to cast my basspro rod combo
I side arm....90% accuracy 😎
I've been sidearm casting for live bait and Powerbait for trout. I'm afraid the bait will fly off the hook with an overhead cast.
Very good tutorial very thorough and well explained. Just don't ever take a beginner fisherman, it will ruin your day lol
You said nothing about when or how to release the line.
You get what you get and you don't get upset
Face full of lure... Hate when that happens... 🤣

It's the Bass Pro lake and they have the kids fishing it every month
