    If you leave your hedge wider at the top you will get noticeable gaps with thin growth at the bottom. Taper your hedge slightly towards the top for an even growth from top to bottom

    The "corner(s)" is at the ends of the hedge row, you like to trim the "leading edge" 45 degrees. Also you didn't show or explained how you get rid of the clippings. Rake, mulch or leaf blower? I mulch.

    If you find powered cutters unwieldy, you may find you'll like old-fashioned manual shears better, as they're much lighter. Look for ones with angled handles to give some working room in terms of offset. Maybe not as fast as powered cutters, but more control. Nice and quiet and they have no cord in the way or battery to go dead. Other than that, going over the bushes with a rake after the rough trimming will shake out dead stuff and help with trimming down to a much neater appearance.

    It looks like the top is wider than the bottom? This will eventually cause thinning at bottom of plant, top should always be narrower. Just look at any natural growing tree or bush.

    An easy way to keep the top flat is to lay a piece of plywood on top of the hedge . Then put the hedge trimmer on top of the plywood, and simply rotate the trimmer around in a circle or to cut at both ends of the plywood. After that pick up the plywood and move it to the newly trimmed area and repeat the process all the way down the hedge till its all cut to the same level.

    it doesn't matter how uneven the top of the hedges you can make it perfectly even, use a 3-foot level or longer and put that on to get it perfectly even.

    Your video is well done and informative. You left the worst job at the end of your video. "CLEAN UP" .IF YOU PURCHASE A 10' X 20' CHEAP TARP, FOLD IT IN HALF , LAY IT DOWN UNDER THE SIDE EDGE OF THE HEDGE. All the clippings will fall on the tarp, roll it up and clean up was super fast.

  • @djratino
    @djratino 2 роки тому

    Wasn't really what I was looking for. I'm looking for instructions on cutting hedges way back that has overgrown. I'm thinking you cut it in sections and allow it to heal & fill in. Topping one is even more challenging. You're cutting the branch clusters out leaving a lot of straight stalks. They will rebranch in a year or so. The cut them close to the ground method will sometimes destroy your hedge and it may never fill in right. Don't do that! 🐀🐾
