@michellejack5740 There could be a host of things. Were your blades dull when you cut them? Did you clean the cut shrubs off when you were done? Did you spray anything on them when you were finished cutting? The main thing is it will grow out, but it doesn't matter if you have an electric trimmer. Electric and gas both work the same

Beautiful job! Thanks 🙏🏽. I do my own yard work so I am always looking for tips. This was so clear and simple, now I too can have my yard looking professionally done. Let me know if you have tips for a quick way to trim rose bushes. Thank you again for posting this video.
Sure, I use a hand pruner to cut back rose bushes. When you prune them, wear long sleeves and gloves. Pull off the leaves so that you can see the stems better. Cut the dead stems first. When you cut it, if it's brown on the inside, it's dead. If it's green on the inside, it's alive. Always remember to cut them at an 45° angle......NEVER STRAIGHT ACROSS. Always cut at least 1/4 to 1/2 inch above the bud and cut stems that are crossing each other. Was a quick answer, but i hope this helps, and thank you so much for watching 🙏🏾

Boxwoods are some of my favorite shrubs, love how you didnt make the bottom go inwards, many make that mistake then end up with a bare bottom shrub What happened to the lil shrub with the dead in the middle?
Hello Jessica, You can use a blower on mulch as well. To make it easier so that mulch doesn't blow all over the place, use your water hose and spray your mulch with water to make the mulch heavy. After you've done that, the same technique I used to get the clippings out of the rocks is the same technique you would use to blow your clippings out of the mulch. Hope this helps 🙏🏾
Thank you. This is an American Boxwood. The best place to find them is gonna be at your local nursery. Home Depot and Lowes has them, but to me, nurseries have better quality. They grow fast if you keep them fertilized. These in this video we're about 4 feet tall and 3 ft wide. Thank you, and your channel is amazing, by the way 👌🏾
Thanks so much for your quick reply! I’m in Texas. I’m looking for some bushes that can reach atleast 6-7 feet in height to cover my tall foundation. Looking for bushes that can hold up in extreme heat but can also live through very low temps since we get that occasionally and so many of my neighbors bushes die from just 1 day in 10 degree weather 😩. Did some quick research and these look like they’ll work. It looks like there’s some darker bushes that are the same height in your video. Is that the same type of bush?
@Frequentfinder These bushes will do the trick for you. Since you're in Texas, they MAY have a different variety because of your climate, but generally, boxwoods will do well in heat. They can also get up to 7 feet tall if you let them grow that high. The majority of the shrubs in this video were boxwoods besides the small tree near the door and the big round bush that I trimmed that's tucked in the corner. They will also do well in the winter months, so don't worry, y'all don't get anywhere close as cold as we do 😄
Excellent demo of trimming. FYI for cleaniing trimmings out of rock borders without a tarp, I use a Worx Tri Vac with bag attachment. You can control the amount of suction so the trimmings are mulched and the rocks are not.
@@PoloFieldsLawnService wellll.. the side I did looks okay... But unfortunately my husband didn't watch this tutorial and now one of my hedges looks like it has mange 😂 Thinking I may just try rejuvenation pruning and cut them all the way down and hope they grow back next year. 😫
@jessicarichardson1502 Awww mannn. Well, don't trim it all the way down. Show him this video, feed it throughout the year, and let it grow. Depending on the shrub, you should have more new growth on it by the fall. Trim them again before we get into colder temperatures, so maybe before Halloween. I would only recommend a hard pruning if the shrub is damaged by either cold temperatures, diseases, or insects. Otherwise, let it grow. You might have to put your foot down on this one 😆 You know how us men are. We think we know EVERYTHING. If you did a better job than him, you might have to do the trimming 😆😆😆
Nice! Do you find it advantageous to cut the top portion of the hedges at a slight angle more so than the bottom portion to allow the sun to reach all sides, top and bottom of the hedges to allow the hedges to get the same amount of sunlight/growth to the entire plant. I guess the idea behind this method is to allow overhead sun to reach the hedge with uniformity. Kind of like a pyramid… but not as aggressively with the angles. Almost seamlessly. 👍🏾🏆
@@clarkkent4991 This can happen if you are cutting the limbs at the bottom of the shrub into the bush. How they are trimmed in this video, the shrub will be fine.

Thank you for posting this, it's very helpful. I just bought my first trimmer & wanted to get some tips before using it. You do nice trim work; I would hire you! 👍
Yes, blowing in circles takes the pressure off of just blowing directly into the rocks or mulch. The more you do it, the better you'll see how easy it moves the clippings 👍🏾
Thank you for this video! I'm new to shrub trimming and your demonstration gave me confidence. I was going to try it with loppers, but we have electric hedge trimmers, which intimidated me because I was afraid I was going to butcher the shrubs. But I'm going to try them, after watching your video. Cheers!
@@PoloFieldsLawnService I did it! It was so easy and made such a huge difference. Then I did an overgrown cedar-type bush in my backyard...looks great!
Rake the mulch away from the shrub, at least 2-3 feet away. Trim the shrub, collect clippings, and rake mulch back to the shrub. That is my method if you don't wanna use a tarp or if a tarp is giving you issues by tripping over it or making a mess.
Terrific video. Really like the big one in the center, which you made more into a sphere. Not fond of the squared-off ones, but still better than what my landscaper did to mine...looked like a buzz-cut, you know how they cut servicemen's hair. Just laying on top and working your way in is VERY helpful; I wouldn't have thought of that. Obviously, you've done this for a while. Great video.
Thank you, Christopher. I'm glad that you enjoyed the content. Maybe you can give it a try on your bushes and tell your landscaper to hold off on the next one 🤷🏾♂️
I'm going to buy a hedge trimmer, now that I watched your video. The HVAC guy whined last time that he couldn't place his ladder to get to the roof because everything grew so large. I called the landscaper and she said January 30th, which is 2.5 months, but I need the HVAC guy out here this month for the winter checkup. My gosh...I'll do it myself. I just bought a Ryobi Whisper-Quiet blower, so I may as well go and get a hedge trimmer and do it myself. The trimmer will cost less than the landscaper would've charged anyway. No point in being helpless. Thanks again...great video! @@PoloFieldsLawnService

Thank you. I searched properly trimming shrubbery. Wish you were in baltimore.
Thank you. Wish you were in Louisville 🙂
Thank-you teacher ! Going outside to trim mine right now .Amazing teaching skills 👍
Thanks, I try my best 👌🏾
Underrated video. These tips are legit.
Preciate you Drailo 💪🏾
Thanks for your help. I've switched from a hand clipper and bought a small electric.
Awesome, Hope this works out for you Vali 👍🏾
Thanks bud. Used your method and my schrubs look great.
That's awesome. Wish I could see some pics 👌🏾
Thank you so much! Im going to do mine tomarrow. Im going to follow all your steps. My fingers are crossed🤞
You're gonna do great 👍🏾

Thank you for posting this, it's very helpful. I just bought my first trimmer & wanted to get some tips before using it. You do nice trim work; I would hire you! 👍
Thank you. Let me know how it goes 👍🏾
Yea another online Uncle teaching this new home owner, Uncle Bermudagrass Central sent me over here. Thank you.
Thank you Geekgirrrl. Hope you enjoy the videos and content 🙏🏾
oh wow. That's the Best Job I've seen Yet!! EXCELLENT!
*WHAT A *SUPERB JOB!*
I'M IMPRESSED.
Appreciate you, ShogunHull 🙏🏾
Good info. Practice makes perfect. The tarp would add a ton of extra work. Thanks
My feet always find a way to trip on the tarp and knock the clippings everywhere 🤦🏾♂️😆 That's why I do it this way lol
That's a work of art!!! BEAUTIFUL!!! 🥰
Thank you 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Great information, much appreciated. Oh, great job on the shrubs.
Thank you, Mark 👍🏾
Great video here. Informative, easy to understand if you're a beginner, like me, and done with integrity. I'd hire you in a second!
Appreciate you, Justin. Thank you 💯
Great tutorial thanks!!!! I said use blower but didn’t know to blow in a circle.
Yes, blowing in circles takes the pressure off of just blowing directly into the rocks or mulch. The more you do it, the better you'll see how easy it moves the clippings 👍🏾
Great video. Super satisfying watching those shrubs come into shape!
Thanks Matt. They definitely get attention from people passing by. Some people stop and just look at them 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for this video! I'm new to shrub trimming and your demonstration gave me confidence. I was going to try it with loppers, but we have electric hedge trimmers, which intimidated me because I was afraid I was going to butcher the shrubs. But I'm going to try them, after watching your video. Cheers!
You're welcome. Let me know how you do 👍🏾
@@PoloFieldsLawnService I did it! It was so easy and made such a huge difference. Then I did an overgrown cedar-type bush in my backyard...looks great!
@JL-ze5qm awesome, I knew you could do it. I'm glad that you cut everything to your satisfaction. Awesome job, JL 👏🏾
@@PoloFieldsLawnService 😁👍
Thank you so much bro... I going get to work on my bushes... after work today 💪🏾
No problem, reply back and let me know how it went when you get done 👍🏾
Thanks!
Appreciate you, Mr Saxton 🙏🏾
True professional. Gotta appreciate someone with skills 👍🏽👍🏽
Nice work there
I try my best 👌🏾
Excellent job my friend! I must ask, what would the process be with red mulch. Ive tried a tarp. It get a lot out but not all. Thank you!
Rake the mulch away from the shrub, at least 2-3 feet away. Trim the shrub, collect clippings, and rake mulch back to the shrub. That is my method if you don't wanna use a tarp or if a tarp is giving you issues by tripping over it or making a mess.
Great instructions and work. Looks fantastic
Thank you 👍🏾
Great job. Confirmation- don’t trim too much, just enough. Thanks Fam.
You're on it 👍🏾
Terrific video.
@@christopheryochum3602 Yep, it will save you some money in the long run. If you do proceed in getting a hedge trimmer, let me know how it goes 👍🏾
First off your home and landscape is beautiful. I'm a new homeowner and looking for tools to use in the yard. Your video is very helpful indeed I am worried about ruining the shape, but will follow your advice. Thanks again.
Hello Brooklyn, Thanks for your comment. Just do as I instructed in the video and take off as little as possible. Once you start to form a shape ( square or circle), build off of that. God Bless 🙏🏾
This is vid was EXTREMELY helpful!! I hate using tarps!! They just get in the way! Nice work!
Thanks Nicholas, you and I are in the same boat with the tarps 💪🏾
