- Trimming a privet (ligustrum) hedge
A privet hedge ready for its summer trim, cutting new growth back and shaping it to a pleasing shape.
I often get asked for hints and tip on the best way to cut or how to trim a hedge, my advice is always, NEVER RUSH and plan ahead, in most cases, its best to trim the sides first and then the top, look first for any dangers, but enjoy the task.

Beautiful job and excellent video. No unnecessary talk or waffle, real time except for a little bit of slow mo where it matters and no annoying music so can hear what you are doing.
Thank you, really appreciate your comment, glad you enjoyed 😀👍
Great Jason! You did an awesome job. I could watch you all day long.
Thanks 😀
*I could've watched this all day. Sharp tool, cuts like butter, you know how to use it and you didn't massacre the hedges lol 😆🤣. Oh btw great video angles 👍👍.*

Now that's what I call a good hedge trim, in fact perfect. Enjoyed watching. not rushed at all. You obviously enjoy and take great pride in your work.
Big thank you 😀😀
Yes really enjoyed trimming that hedge, was really satisfying to do.
👍👍
I wasn’t aware how dense a privet hedge is. Brilliant.
👍👍
Well, I'm a professional hedger, and I have to tell you that you are doing great!👍🌍
Really nice results and I like it that you are not rushing to get it done too quickly but you gave yourself a normal time to allow to trim thoose hedges properly! Congrats Mate! And like your new Stihl HSA 86 battery hedger. Really nice and sharp blades it has!
Cheers, from southside of Brisbane, AU!👏👍
Thanks Attila, really do appreciate that, from another professional 😀, 👍👍👍
I knew you are a pro as well! Amateurs can't do such a good job! Cheers, Mate! :) ;)

@@jasongardener3425 i can see that by the care you put into the work.
Bet the client didn't even know you were working with the battery being so quiet. Fantastic for the noise neighbours too 🤣
🤣.
Yeah, customer was shocked I'd started, as said they couldn't hear any noise.
👍😀
Music to my ears

You had a nice healthy hedge to work with....great job!!!
Thank you Anne 👍
What a fine hedge trimmer. Man and machine.
Thank you 😊👍
Bootiful work chap - really nice profile to that hedge. Bet the customer was chuffed 👍 Also a fantastic demonstration of how battery kit can get the job done - efficiently. Beaut video 👍
Thanks mate, customer was very happy 😊.
I'm surprised how good the machine is and in all honesty, wish I'd bought one years ago, for a inclosed area like this hedge, battery made a massive difference, less noise and most of all, breathing in fumes.
👌👍👍
Whats the battery life like. Do you worry about running out of charge mid job?
Absolutely awesome, great job 🤜🏾🤛🏾💯✨✨👍🏾👍🏾🦿🍺🍺🍻🍻✨✨✨
Thanks 😀
Beautiful work. I just love watching. Wish I lived in such a lovely place👍
Thank you 😊👍
I used to work as a gardener a few years ago because i did it in my own garden so I always like gardeners when it comes to trimming & making trees beautiful .. but I didn't use trimming machine like you cause I don't have it so I just use manual garden shears 😀😀
That was some beautiful work well done so much expertise. So precise the lines and angles such thorough smooth work well done Jason.
Thank you 😀👍👍
Another brilliant job! Very neat!
Thanks mate 👍👍
Excellent channel, you make this look easy, keep up the great work, its an inspiration.
Thank you 😀👍
brilliant and neat hedge. it's very soothing to watch hedges been cut some how. you did an excellent job of that.
i like privet. it's flowers are scented as well. much better than conifers! good job done.
Thank you 😀
It's been a while Jason, glad you uploaded! " 2:52 Jason: hmm what shape should I...well this will do now" fantastic work as usual.
Thanks mate 😀.
Been a bit time poor lately, work is so busy, but hopefully upload more often again soon
👍👍
I once got a job like this when I was about 15. Had the tools..but my electric trimmer went out. Ended up cutting in manual..learned the meaning of hard work that day lol. Looked good..but bless the trimmer machine haha.
That was a good workout that day for you, cheers mate 👍😊
Perfect as usual. Hypnotic.
Thanks 😊👍
Ваша работа - это профессионализм. Пила работает как швейная машинка, срез получается ровный и красивый. Смотришь видео с удовольствием 👍👍👍

Nice job! They are a lovely hedge to cut.
Always a pleasure to trim privet, 👍👍

Un lavoro da professionista.
Stihl over the TOP ❤
👍
had a fair bit on it Jason . lovely job the hsa 86 is very impressive 👍
Thanks goerdie mate, the hsa86 did well, as you know, privet tops can be pretty thick growth and it did a great job
👌👍👍
A brilliant job as always.
Cheers maxwell 😊👍👍
Really enjoyed that. Fantastic end result
Cheers Tom 😀👍
Man do I want your job , what a satisfying thing to do , awesome job mate 👏

Thanks martyn 👍😊
Nice job, nothing better than a well trimmed hedge.
Cheers mate 😀👍
Вы -великий мастер, БРАВО!
What a great job. Privet is so easy to cut and shape.
Thank you
Nice respectful work. Hard to keep such edges for such a long hedge. Takes more effort then most think. Been there and done that. And have that skill as well. Thumbs Up!
Thank you Gary 😀👍
Nice work Jason and nearly 10k subs. 👍
Getting there, cheers mate 👍
I like the look of hedges when they have the bevel you put on the edges. They look more interesting. The privet hedges are nice to trim, aren't they? Great job. More videos on hedge, tree and bush shaping.
👍
Started watching hedge trimming a few days ago. You've done the best job so far! Looks easy, but you have to have steady hands and good eyes to keep the lines straight. 👍👍👍👍
Very Nice JOB!!! From Kansas City.
Thanks you Bill and hello kansas 😀👍
Looks awesome!!
Thanks 😀👍
Tidy job mate. I enjoy cutting privets 👍
Thanks mate, privet is one of my favourites to trim too.
😊👍
You made that look so easy, but there's obviously an awful lot of skill required to do what you do. Strangely deeply satisfying to watch, the horticultural equivalent of sheep shearing 😊
Thanks, iv had plenty of practice over the years lol.
I enjoyed trimming it, really glad you enjoy the videos.
😊👍
What's the name of the tool
Yeah, trimming is all about practise and looking at how the lines go. Sometimes straight does not look straight for example, and you need to adjust according to vantage point and surroundings.
A never amazing job Jason 👍
Cheers mate 👍
Looks beautiful!
Thank you 😀👍
WOW!...you got a good skill in hedging!!!..holding firmly that trimming tool is not a joke...it is heavy though but you handled it very well!...nice video, Jason...i consider it THERAPEUTIC because while viewing... it calms me down and feel so relax...kind of sleepy!...very highly recommended for a stressful life!.. keep up your good work!.....'NO PAIN NO GAIN!'....
Thank you, very kind words 😃👍
I won't beat around the bush.........that was "sheerly" delightful!!
I'd give you 2 thumbs up, but I cut one off sheering my hedge.
Thank you driveman, 😀👍
❤ You make it look so easy. I use your tips on sharpening my gas powered handheld and pole hedge trimmer and find them to work very effectively now. I find the hand held to be straining on my lower back😳 My pole hedge trimmer allows me to reach farther making it easier and not causes much stress, I have recently purchased a 4 foot platform ladder to help stabilize and less reach. curious of your thoughts of Pole hedge trimmer versus handheld thank you. that machine you’re using rechargeable I believe looks fantastic.
"Hedging" takes skill and patience, and sharp power tools. Nice trimming job...the hedge looks has good symmetry now.
Cheers mate, really appreciate that 👍😀
Wow ! 😲That is awesome..... you are fantastic ! 👍🏽🔥👍🏽🏋🏽♂️👍🏽🔥🏋🏽♂️👍🏽

Simplesmente perfeito! Grande profissional! Abraço de Portugal

Very smart and tidy. Nice job mate.
Thanks mate 😀
A very good job as always Jason.could say in future add the your process of how you clean up all the cuttings and how you personally do it. Carry on the good work mate.
Thanks David 😀
Will do 👍👍
GREAT work, you are a MASTER GARDENER, I love everything in this video, gentle noise, style of cuttting and shaping, I just wish it lasted longer 🙂👍👏
Thanks 😀
It's really hard finding time, to do the editing unfortunately.
👍👍
Great work 👍 😊
Cracking job that- I have the same hedge cutter , it’s a beaut 😄
Cool, thanks Tom 👍👍
That is nice work you do a great job.
Thanks mate 😊👍
Great machine for the hedge☺
Muito satisfatório, adoro esses videos 👍.
Beautiful!
Thanks Heidi 😊
GORGEOUS JOB!
Thank you 😀 👍
Hi Jason. V nice finish. After this I’m seriously considering battery hedge tools. I’m guessing there’s a lot less vibration than a petrol equivalent? What the weight and the balance like? Cheers for another great vid. 👍
Cheers mate, the battery hedge trimmers are so nice to use, yes, less vibration/noise/no fumes and a much more efficient way of working, depending on pat battery you put in, yes lighter too.
If your thinking of trying battery out, I would suggest trying the hla66 first, very versatile trimmer and would give you a good feel for the battery kit
👍😀
Yoiu are a very skilled person really enjoyed your video!!! 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Your very kind, thank you 😀
Have a question, why the angle on the top, is it to protect the hedge from ICE and Snow? The new house we are moving to has this, and I was wondering if it was just for the looks?
Looks great 👍
Thank you 😊
What an awesome job 👍🙂🙃❤️
Cheers Gloria 😊👍
From Argentina ESPECTACULAR !!!
😀 Thanks Antonio 😀👍
Very skillful. Great work.
Thank you 😊
I cutted myself with the same trimmer you using, It hurted a lot but now im okay 😅😅😅, greetings from Spain, good work!!!
😀👍
Sauber geschnitten.... Chapeau 👍🏻👏🏻
Your level of concentration is outstanding.
Thanks 😊👍
You should get the catch board accessory for it! Great for doing the tops. 5mins to fit it too! Cracking video sir!
Thanks mate, yes, I keep meaning to get one, but keep forgetting lol.
😀👍👍👍
What's a catch board? something to help with cleaning up the cut leaves?
Wow. Craftsman at work 👍
Thank you 😊👍
Looks great man
👍😀
Hi Jason great job 👍lovely to see a video. How long did that take you? Do you use battery all the time now? 👍
Think from start to finish about 3 hours ish.
No, it's a mix of battery and petrol, but with hedges, battery will probably be used more.
👍
Yes oddly satisfying to watch to completion
Thank you 😀👍
Nice job. Good finish.
Cheers mate 😊👍
I do like cutting a privet with a drop of moisture on it to make it glisten…. After years of using various hedge cutters I purchased a Stilh ( other brands available) long reach battery version and I must admit I’m quite impressed with it … can make the shoulders ache with it at full extension though as I’m sure you know 😃…..
👌👍
Good job 💯
Cheers 👍 👍
This could be a dumb question Jason but, do you get such a wonderful cut because you sharpen them blades often or because of the cutting speed? Lovely video as always
Hi,No that's not a dumd question at all, I'm a big believer in, blades cut and not the speed, so sharp blades are important, the trick is just keeping them sharp, by regularly checking them and quickly going over them with a file.
👍👍
@@jasongardener3425 thanks mate. I know you have done a wonderfully in depth video taking apart your other trimmer blades and sharpening. Could you please do one with a quick sharpening just for a maintenance clean up?
What model did you use to trim the hedge please? I can see it's a Stihl. It is very effective. Looks good!
Hi, it's a stihl hsa86, it's takes the ap battery good trimmer
👍👍
How would it fare against a laurel hedge
@@sunfiregeckos9041 iv only used it on some laurel shrubbery and cut fine.
👍
Lovely hedge good job
Thank you Gail 😀👍
Hi Jason, what model and battery were you using? Great job well done as usual👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks mate, stihl hsa86 👍
10k subs incoming... congrats!
Just checked, yeah wow, I thought I was on 9k just lol.
Thanks for watching 👍👍

What plant is this that you trimming? Ligustrum japonicum?
This guy's a artist
🙂
Great job 👏 Nice video
Thanks mate 😀👍
Jay at what point in the hedge for you decide to make the bevell are you just doing it by eye or what please educate me thanks
Hi, I put the bevel on it last year fist time, as helped to make front garden look more open, with out taking the height off the hedge.
👍👍
Great Job. Important to have a Quality trimmer like yours. Looks like a Stihl. I've got 5 or 6 but they're all pretty CRAP.
