Today, we’re going to be doing something a little bit different. I’m on vacation - so I thought it would be fun to take a journey through a few of my most frequently used coloring books and taking a look at the good, the bad, and quite frankly the ugly.. as some of them turn out fabulously, they get their own video… while others get half colored and then quietly tucked away never to be seen or heard from again. Until today…
So first off, I’d like to thank a viewer named Michelle who sent me this video idea - I thought it was a great opportunity to talk about something we don’t really cover very often, which is artistic confidence. At all skill levels, you get artwork that turns out great and artwork you never want to see the light of day. It happens to me all the time. So as you go through your own coloring journey, try not to get discouraged. Either push through and finish the page or push it aside and start over. Learn from the experience, but don’t dwell on the negative.

I really appreciate that you show "failed" attempts. Everyone is normally showing of the best work and it kinda helps to take away the pressure that every picture has to become a masterpiece. I certainly suffer from that and am often blocked by this self-made pressure. Just to see, that "failed" pictures really happen to everyone is a bit of a relief. Even though i kinda liked your "failed" pages too, maybe you will return to them later on your coloring journey. :)
I wonder if you would reconsider some of the abandoned pages. I understand losing interest in a page, but sometimes I think it's hard to move past the ugly duckling stage. It would be great to see a video where you challenge yourself to go back to a page and see if you succeed. That would help so many people.
I color to relax but get dismayed if my colors aren’t right or I don’t have enough detail or shading. The color pallet limitations that seem to be a rule in the coloring scene challenge me as well and many of my pages end up in the trash. I now color for the reason I started; to have that calm time to myself. If I color something on a page I don’t like, I make sure I do better on the rest of the page as giving up is not relaxing. I really enjoyed you sharing the pages you colored because you are real and because you don’t go over every medium or detail on every page. I am subscribed and really enjoy your work.
Thank you so much for showing us your partially colored pages. I do that and have felt bad but no more!
I remember you doing so many of theses coloring pages! I started with you very early, and your channel took off! Romantic Country is my favorite. I couldn’t sleep last night, so at 2:00 am, I was coloring along with book two, the rocking house, garden room! I loved the page! Thank you! Kathy
OMG! And all this time I've heard mama in my head (I'm 59+ yrs) "I don't spend money on these so you can color part of a picture and never finish it!" I now feel vindicated!!
I hate that so many of your fails are far better than my greats! (sigh). But I enjoy every one I'm working on while I'm working on it. My son (who is an amazing artist!), has convinced me to accept a fail as a fail and then use it for gaining experience by using a new technique, trying new floor combinations or some other "new" trick. (He's pretty smart about lotsa stuff!!) 😁
I know how you feel about the paper. I fee the same way sometimes. I switch medium and go for the watercolors when that happens. I am a mostly pencil girl so I don't like when that happens with the paper, but it's all good at the end. Thanks for letting us in on your finished work. So much fun!❤️
I thought I was the only one that thought Johanna's coloring books had a surplus of leaves. At one point I thought she should have a set of various green pencils that come along with her books! I know I've gone through most of my various greens coloring all the leaves. Thanks for sharing your creativity with the rest of us!! 💖💛🧡💜💙💚💖💚💙💛🧡💜
First, I have to say that I find your videos very relaxing as well as informative. Your voice is very soothing, IMO.
I love videos like this where people show what books they have and/or pages they have colored. It's always fun to see how other people color the same image.
I like that you showed images you weren't happy with. Sometimes people get so worried about ruining an image they won't color anything at all. I live by the Bob Ross quote - There are no mistakes, only happy accidents ;)
I just discovered your channel recently, but I have watched a few of your videos. I'm glad you mentioned the ones on texture because that is something I'm very interested in.
I love your voice and the professionalism you bring to your videos. Your microphone must also be excellent to showcase your lovely voice.
Thank you so much 🤗 Really appreciate it!
Gosh I wish you would share more videos.... you're just wonderful at what you do and so appreciated!
You color really really good! It's also amazing how you draw in some of your own details.
I love extensive coloring videos! People are just not doing them anymore ...,You have such a great teacher!
Thank you for posting. I always believe there are no failures when colorists post videos and it's very discouraging for me when I try and color. I was thrilled with this video and it has made me desire to continue with my coloring endeavors.
The magical jungle pic, with the red background was really pretty! I didn't think it was a fail, until you said you"ruined " it, i would have just thought it was creative and beautiful! It still is
You could so be one of those people that reads books for audiobooks
Barbara Smith said that the best
i know her voice is so calming and relaxing
I agree. I love Rachel's accent🙂
I really like the detailed, multi part tutorials. That is how I have been learning color. There are not too many new ones anymore, sadly. I really enjoy all of your videos, must find the brick wall one :)
I dont mind multiple videos on pages. Love color alongs. I have watched all your videos, most more than once.
Thanks for showing the good, bad, ugly- it’s all a journey! I too am loving the romantic country series.
You showed the magical jungle failed double spread w the pinky- red? I would recommend going over it with a pthalo blue or a darker purple-y color! You might still be able to save it. One of my least favorite pages in enchanted forest had something similar happen: goodness knows why but I used a pink faber castell pitt pen for ground in front of the castle gates, then ochre, THEN finally a dark dark green to rescue it. So it’s never too late. But it was one of the very last pages to finish in that book and I was freaking out.....
Love your videos-short or long. Thanks for the time you give us. Wish my good pictures were as good as your discards😢😢
I love 5 part series, especially with you teaching me,
I liked seeing your completed or in some cases uncompleted work - made me feel validated! Just a note - I love multiple videos on pages, especially on your channel, they are always fun and so inspiring. I have learned so much from you since I subscribed and I have now gone into the "archives" for more tips and tricks! Thank you for all of your videos - love them
The T-Rex is WOW!
I like your multipart videos. I remember binging on your Romantic Country tutorials when I started coloring. I thought adding in the floor boards was great (I hate coloring large empty blocks) and you introduced me to prisma bronze. I still use the techniques I learned on your videos. :)
I’m am learning so much from you❤️
I liked the red border!
Such lovely pages, I believe I have watched all your tutorials 💕💗
Who else could just listen to her read the phone book?
Hope you're having a great vacation. It's nice to know everybody has fails! Helps us feel better about ours.
Thank you, I did have a really nice time! Yes, everybody has their "successes" and their "where did that go wrong?!?!" moments! Absolutely everybody. I've always been very hesitant to show those "fails" but it was actually very liberating to do so :)
I don’t hesitate at all when something turns out badly to just throw the picture away!
This makes me wanna color in one of my many coloringbooks😂😁
Imho, the squirrel looks really pretty and has refreshing colors 😊
I’m love all your pictures, I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t finish all of them.....lol....do you have any idea how I can get the third book of romantic country.....have been all over the internet....no luck...thank you
Do you have videos on how to plan out a colour palate? I've never done that. When I colour I just pick whatever I'm drawn to at the time lol. I don't mind 3 or 4 parts, anymore than that I lose interest ;)
TwoSnakes OneSword she's done two videos I believe. One was fairly recently but I think it was her second video on the topic.
@@aislinrose1 thanks! I will re-loo!, Must have missed them.
TwoSnakes OneSword i hope you find them ;) they helped me out alot
I love the Romantic Country books so much 😍 Lovely pictures 😄
I love ur multiple series and i thank you very much
The paper in Enchanted Forest is difficult to color on as well. Not sure if anyone else noticed that to? I see so many beautiful finished pages however I did 2 pages & had a rough time the way the Prismas colored on it. Beautiful work!
Such beautiful colored pages. Thanks for sharing your works of art1
I was so hoping to see the Harry Potter books! Beautiful work!
I'm actually curious about your daughter's pages as well

Nice colours and pretty pictures. Good tutorials!

Loved this video! Love all your WIPs and finished pices
You have inspired me so that I have ordered the Romantic Country, The Second Tale to color in! Wish me luck
I really like this video. It teaches us not to strive for the perfect.
Love your coloring ❤️
Your cloring book haul is so talented
What is the BEST way to place your coloring books.Sitting on top of each other OR in a bookshelf standing straight up? I Appreciate your Video's thanks!!
I like the easter egg page but if you posca the eggs and get rid of the black they really look like eggs.
New sub, congrats! I like coloring and have started watching you while I do it! You are amazing🙌
7:11 that's gorgeous! I ruined mine!!
I ruined a lot of pictures in those kinds of books
Love that picture.
Thank you so much for this video
Aw! Too bad you did not leave the links to the videos series because I cannot find it!
You have a great voice! Great art too by the way!
Wonderful video! More please. Multi parters are fine by me.🎨♿👵 Barb
I am new to coloring, and am not really sure where to start. I have a collection of about 24 pencils. I don’t know much about shading. I was using the Pigment app but they did an update and it no longer worked. So I figured I’d better learn how to shade. Suggestions?
Love seeing your work, even the abandoned ones, makes me feel like it's OKAY! Do you think the polychromous fails might have to do with the paper in Romantic Country? I don't have Polys but I've tried other oil pencils and they don't seem to come out so well in Romantic Country, the First Tale.
Oh, this was nice. I have problems with not filling in the entire book, even though I may have come to hate it or feel totally overwhelmed by it. I also have a picture I am trying to finish...3 months on the darn thing. I dread opening the book to tackle the next element, but I feel irritated that I am letting the page win. Maybe I'll move on to things that I really like so coloring will become fun again.
An entire book takes time. I just spent over a year finishing one book. I learn it helps to either go by element (i.e. today I am going to get three leaves done or by time i.e. set a timer for 5minutes and you know no matter what its only 5 minutes of your time). Lastly i have also a need to relax/break time coloring book. This book is simply there for me to color when the one im working on gets to frustrating.
I am work question what is shading I’m trying to practice that one what one of my pages but I want to know what it actually was shading actually is
Great video . . . very enjoyable! Love your style!!!
Hi, you said something about a matte finish on your pages so the color doesnt transfer. Do you have a video on it? Like the product. Does it work on gel pens? I have having a lot of problems with my gel pens transfering on to my good completed pages.
How many days does it take to do a page? BTW I am a fan of your work.
I like the tattoo style ones
That look spooky on the night seen lol it.
What matte fixative spray do u use? Thanks!
Do u go back to abandoned pages its hard for me to after I loose interest any tips on how to recover pages ur disappointed in?
Where can I buy this type off book's I'm looking for dragons and Japanese worries
How do I find your past videos
coloring good am
book cage
I am trying to get into adult coloring and I have no idea where to start
Don't worry about buying a lot of supplies or anything like that. There are tons of tutorial online and a bunch of facebook groups that can help you with things like realistic shading and other "art" type stuff.
Just buy a coloring book or 2 that you like and pick up some colored pencils (crayola are fine) and start coloring. Once you get the feel for it, start watching some videos and you will be off to the races.
If you can afford prismacolor premiere colored pencils they are a good option for a beginnger quality pencil. They blend easily and are great to work with.
Good luck!
@@towalmoore thank you
What is a random prompt?
I thought you did beautiful coloring. I abandon some of mine and sometimes there is only a couple of more things to color.
This is the page the country store it’s making me crazy, lol.
Where are the new videos 😢
Do you color the backgrounds first or last?
Hello there! It depends. If it's a plain background, as in just white, i normally color it last. However with background that are a "subject matter" I usually do them first! Those types are actually my very favorite thing to color.
sammy
Are you ever going to color again.
Meera
You go back and do your very first pictures and improve them as you gained knowledge
I can not understand why buy so many colorings and in each paint one or two pictures. You probably collect waste paper? Well, this is also a hobby! On the Internet a lot of such boasters-collectors. People! Coloring pages are designed to be painted, rather than folded into beautiful mountains!
