I once went out with coworkers wearing a blazer and they all said "wow, you're so stylish". It's just an old sporty blazer. I wore it with a nice pair of jeans of all the trousers! But the blazer made the difference. In my country and city, you rarely see men dressing up, unless it's for a special night at specific club or a wedding.

A funny story.. My office had put my middle name as my last name, on a plane ticket for an international flight. I almost got flagged, but being dressed well (in a suit) and being nonchalant about it, he passed me.

Growing up, I wore suits to church all the time. I currently have 5 suits for different occasions. Even my budget suit from Macy's looks good after tailoring. Fit like a charm.
Though a few years ago, my coworkers and I decided to dress nicer for giggles (at the time, i was building computers). We walked into work with our suits and everyone was surprised and complimented us. We started doing that on Wednesdays. But the one thing I had none the other guys had were dress shoes. Currently, since I'm in parts at a car dealer, I can't really wear a suit but a sports jacket actually does decently there

Completely true. I was a young Lance Corporal in the Marine Corps. I needed a suit for an event I didn’t want to go to. So, I bought a cheap suit I could afford. At a grocery store, on the way to purchase a card, two people in front of me both told me to go ahead of them in line, and called me “sir”. Then something similar happened again. And to loosely quote the ZZ Top song: Sharp Dressed Man, the ladies go crazy about a sharp dressed man…

You are spot on about remembering faces and not names. My problem for decades. I have learned to repeat the name aloud several times, and come up with a singular characteristic of the person involved (hit or miss, but when it works, it is good). I agree wear the suit out: to go on errands or to a meeting or whatever. You will get used to it and it will become your second skin. And I have gotten compliments in the oddest places: in the local pharmacy and getting off an airplane - by a young man like in his mid to late teens. I was stunned to get the complement from a teenager. I am amazed and gratified that he noticed.

All very true and not just for suits! I dress 1-2 levels above most people where I work (a suit would just look way too out of place) and have received compliments from colleagues, and people I directly don’t know often defer to me, even when they have more experience! The extra attention isn’t always great though, several times I’ve had visiting VIPs talk with me, assuming I’m far higher up than I am, which always leads to an awkward correction 😅

Then I bought some dress shirts and pants (not suits). Felt great, standing out, getting compliments, all of that. But if I wear a suit everyday at work, then the suit will stop being a special item. I want to wear a suit to a wedding, a job interview, the opera! think of a pyramid of everyday wear occasions. I do wish I could wear a suit at least once a month instead of once a year.

That’s too bad for other people, It’s them projecting how they perceive themselves to be. A person who’s confident in their own skin won’t look at you in a negative way because of how you choose to dress. You can be humble and still wear a suit. You can be a leader and you can be an inspiration to other men. Intimidation can be advantageous if you’re using it for the good of men not for your own self righteousness.
