  • Emergency service vehicles need to get places as quickly as possible. We can help with that. Here's two recent examples near Dorchester of how so many people don't even see them when they're directly behind them.
The video here will help: • Blue Light Aware

I dont find stopping helps , you just become an obstruction , keep the traffic moving and move over when its safe , every incident is different , but Ive had cars stop just like you have , and it means no one is going any where

Indeed, play it by ear. You don't have to pull over immediately, the idea is to make it easy for them to get past, if that means driving for a few hundred yards or more so be it. They are professional drivers and will recognise what you are doing.

totally agree... the traffic flow needs to continue to flow if you expect the blue lights to get past. sure, stop in places out the way but only as long as there will be enough space left for the people behind and ahead of you.

@@cccenturion4480 totally... to add to that, i find indicating left really helps as it gives the bleu lights confidence that you are pulling over because you have shown that you have acknowledged them and are getting out the way

Pulling over for the Police in the end part --- not surprised one bit; happens to me every time. Not only that, when the police car passes and you try to pull away, cars want let you start/pull out back into the flow of traffic. Its getting to the stage where i think i will have to ignor Emergency services and be like the other 99% of drivers on the road, to survive.

I think the drivers who passed you realized something was up; and then edged outside of the road to let the cruiser pass. Slow response time, elderlies, like me? Ha.

With all the cameras. Sensors and radars drivers just don't use old fashioned mirrors. Add them being on phones or playing music...no chance. An idea was suggested years ago for a device that used the radio to tell people that drive cars an emergency vehicle is approaching.

Additional to your comment, I find that modern cars do not have the good all round visibility of older cars. They now have dark tinted windows and tiny rear windscreens so that the internal rear view mirror doesn't have anything like a good view. Get a car with the lane assist and it is constantly trying to drive into the middle of the road unless you can veto it.

I do agree with you, but a lot depends on the visibility of the blue lights. They can be obscured by bends or large vehicles behind. The electronic sirens are so useless, they can only be heard inside a vehicle when very close indeed. Bring back the 2-tone horns.

Surprising how many people can't drive just oblivious to their surroundings.
