These players are deceptive. You think you are doing well since he is not crushing you with 40 winners but suddenly it's the end of the first set and your legs stop working and he is still getting every ball back at you
The opponent moved way less than Felix in the rallies and mostly stay defensive at the mid court. While our guy, even hitting that well still got pushed around so hard with variations. A strategic moves from him for us to learn!
Some positives, you started off the blocks really well as opposed to going down early like you mentioned. And the quality of your shots was really good.
Japanese players tend to be very good returners (Nishioka, Taro Daniel, Nishikori). They compensate lack of size with reflexes and endurance. Félix, your fitness has improved a lot. The sessions at Patrick's academy were worthy. Regards from Panamá 🇵🇦.
Congrats, Felix! That's a super high level you showed in this match. Backhand was really solid! It can be really taxing and exausting playing guys like this. Keep it up! Great things are coming!
Hi, nice match, you could have won much more points by going for volley more often when he was on defense. When you hit some good balls you let him recover instead of going for volley :)
What an incredible match. You're ground strokes are so powerful and deep in the court and the fact that you took him to 90 minutes in the first set goes to show that you are on the level of that fella. That was very impressive and I'm looking forward to seeing how your strategy changes over the foreseeable years.
Great job Felix, tough game mentally. My opinion is your net game is good when you hit a strong shot. D on’t give him the change to reset the point. Go and watch a few Federer clay court matches. The start shows that you can beat these calibre players. Goodluck and keep up the great videos.
Really high quality match, you were both very solid from the baseline. I really liked your ability to mix it up at the net. I think you could've been successful in mixing in a couple dropshots. Something for the future might be to be even better in your serve +1, as this might allow for easier service games. Overall really tough match and a step in the right direction for your level despite the loss. Hope you do well in the following weeks, keep grinding!!!
In my opinion this was an amazing experience for you Felix, his long rally style was great practice of endurance for you as well as staying focused mid point. Love the content and keep pushing 👍
Clay is a slower surface. Rafael is king of this court because he wears down his opponents and excels at hitting winners from what looks like lower margin shots. Great effort and stay proud! You got this
Great Video! It would be cool to see more variety in the music used to change up the vibe. The "hype" songs work well during the matches. But during some of the more relaxing segments like meals and recovery, lofi and other relaxing music would change up the tone well. Different songs with varying tempos and tones would offer more variety to the videos. It would also make each video a little bit fresh instead of using the same tracks for every video.
Well done Felix. Last year you wouldn't have lasted so long against this guy because your backhands were often too short. So be proud that you've worked on that and got that chink out of your armour. I think the next thing you need to work on is angles. Setting up the point by getting your opponent out of court. Yes, this guy moved well, but he was almost never outside the tramlines. You're not setting up your forehand into space by dragging him out wide to his backhand. Still, overall a very positive development and am enjoying the videos immensely.
this was a great video! the footage was good, the gameplay was very good, and the commentary was awesome, i really enjoyed this video in particular, well done! thank you for this upload!
Felix, you looked more confident in this match, believing that you can win it, which is great! Two things which were seemingly missing on your game: 1. Dropshots. Take a look at the Alcaraz game. This would be definitely a deal breaker at this type of matches since you would be making him come to the net in your terms. 2. It often seems that you hit great shot in the corner but then you don't follow it to the net and then he has all the time to hit neutralizing shot.
Wow that match looked so grueling! I know it was really tough to keep up with those forehands and backhands for over 90 minutes straight since each point was so long and exhausting! Especially in the second set, that opponent was so annoying!!! Really glad you enjoyed it too 👍
Some decent points in there. When you took the initiative you basically won the point. You need to keep up that one two punch from the serve to that first forehand. Don’t just massage that first ball on your forehand, especially if it’s around mid court and can get your body into it. Futures players for the most part are all just really solid. To progress to the next level you need to have something that sets you apart from the rest. Go for those big forehands, even if you miss. By doing so you set the precedent that if you get balls like that, they will be punished. Which will potentially make your opponent overplay and have them produce errors. I’m not saying don’t rally, you need to be able to. But you need to identify those easier balls and do damage with them. If you don’t you’ll be playing into their comfort zone.
You need to have a really good first and second serve. If you look at the Top 10, even Top 50-100 players, they all have serves that will win many more free points than these guys (even on clay). A good example is Stan the Man; he rarely plays his very best in matches but gets bailed out with amazing serves.
Hey Felix, One thing Ash Barty was so good at, was using the short wide slice to get opponents out of position. They then had to choose to either come to the net, or retreat to baseline. Your next shot could be something that puts pressure on them. Another thing; as you say, your opponent wasn't huge. Maybe you could combine a few drop shots with lobs or passing shots. This would finish points early, and help reduce the physicality aspect of the match. I know Alcaraz is using the drop shot a lot, though to be fair this is usually after battering his opponent with a 100mph forehand to push them back and open the space.
Alcarez doesn't need to. His opponents are standing few hundred kilometers behind baseline so its impossible to get to his drop shots from so far behind baseline.
Great video as always Felix, to echo some previous comments I do miss the sense of suspense in older videos when it was less apparent who would win the match. Perhaps some of the more revealing comments could be left to the end of the video. Keep it up though, I love your content!
Even though you lost, this is the first time I believe you are going to win ATP points, not so much of this particular performance but because of the consistency in your path. You are gaining more and more experience against different types of players and trying out which side of the balance you need, consistency or aggressiveness. In due time this is going to pay dividends. In this match you showed the consistency in set 1. In set 2 you went for more aggressiveness. The fact that you can make this choice means you are competing at the pro level.
Felix, this is the best I've seen you play. Congrats! Great video btw. I thought your baseline game was extremely impressive, and in the second set your agression in conjunction with consistency from the baseline was amazing. I think you have room to improve your return of serve (you're too conservative) and your first serves (can you aim for corners better?). Keep the videos coming!
Man these futures tournaments are savage. It's so hard to just pick up 1 ATP point let alone more. But you played well Felix and the first set was so close. I think you just needed to be a bit more offensive and perhaps take the ball on more but it's so easy for me to say from a comfy couch as I know it's hard to do consistently when on the match court. Your level is there to compete with these guys you just need some momentum and a bit of luck in order to get that point. Goodluck for your next event👍
Definitely one of the best matches I've seen you played. Congrats! But bro...if you're gonna come to the net...don't do it all in the same game. Keep it unpredictable ;).
Let’s gooo broooo every day you improve if been following your journey… Simon is a really good influence in your tennis life .. my son is called Felix btw god bless keep on grinding
Idk if you want it but some advice is that you should work on developing a weapon like a big serve or forehand when playing these level players not having a weapon will hurt you during a matcn
One way to reach the next level would be to develop consistent drop shots (both forehand and backhand) from the baseline. Not everyone has the ability to do this, but Carlos Alcaraz has shown the world that baseline drop shots can be very effective offensive weapons.
to reach top 300 having strong serve+1 is key, to not get completly exhausted of all the matches, will save you lots of injury as well since lots of the rallies will be shorter etc. all about being agressive, cauz most of points are at the Final, and without being agressive you get too tired-injured before the end.
Hey Felix...love your content. As your well-wisher....I think currently your first serve is not winning you points ...so if that can be improved that will help you win quick points with less effort🙂
Incredible - how much better your BH is. Very solid. Very impressive. How often do you practice drop shots? On slow red clay where your opponent is often 7 feet behind the baseline, they can really come in handy. They are not easy to do but worth the practice. best of luck!
i remember these kinda players lol. They are a nightmare to play against. Look how easy he defended, amazing. U got to really step on these players with extreme aggression. Good match though.
I think you should incorporate the drop shot in these kinds of players because even though them being so fast, you could find more opportunities since they need to hit it up.
Wow. Very patient Japanese guy! He really forced you to make errors and he seems like he could do it till the end of the world 🤣 Waiting for your Italy videos, cheers.
If you're looking for any tips, from a veteran player (55 now): --You play way too much at the same pace. You should vary your pace significantly. --Same with spins. --Use height and pace together more. A deep, high dead ball to either corner will elicit errors. --To quote McEnore, never give the opponent the same ball twice in a row. --Play a more all-court game. Serve and volley more. --Set traps. Bring people in on purpose, in an awkward way, for easy passes and lobs. You didn't lose because you were worse. You lost because you played his game. Love your videos. Very kind of you to share this journey you're on with everyone.
Since I’m Japanese, I would like to point out that I don’t think the opponent was necessarily a defensive player . We Japanese usual don’t have big forehand/ service like you. Our baseline strategies are basically hit back consistently and aim corners right and left. When we have chance , go forward. It just shows that your base strokes are not as consistent as Pro players with ATP POINTS. So I think it’s important to develop solid strokes to keep hitting like that for 3 hours before aiming for aces .
Nice match Felix, I watch all of your videos. I have one request could you try not to spoil to much during the video to keep the suspense up. Sometimes I can hear what the outcome will be on your tone of voice.
Work the point a bit, then flatten out your forehands when his shots sit up and charge the net. You worked the point beautifully, but then played your finishing shots with too much spin and hestitated to approach. That turned the match into too much of a marathon. Your Selective serve and volleying worked well too. Good try overall. You'll find the right balance soon.
Almost all ATP players would smash their coaches on the court. That's not why they're coaches, lol. Until about 15 years ago there weren't many former top pro players who were coaches either.
Alex, I think this match shows you need to develop weapons that can hurt oppos at this level. Your forehand and backhand right now cannot generate easy points in rally situations. Perhaps work on your forehand and flatten it out a bit on your offensive strokes. Best luck!
Nice strokes! Fitness/losing weight, slice serve, more angles and drop shots and you have him. You can't beat a super consistent guy standing 2m behind baseline by power shots on clay unless your name is Soderling... 😀
Unlucky felix loved the net plays you executed them well could of done that more. I really think you could improve on that forehand not pace wise but adding more spin for angles same on serves! His game is tailor made for clay very spinny he had effortless swings although doesn’t hit hard
Of course i am not in the same level with you. But its clear that you played the game what your opponents likes. He can do it all night long playing from the baseline, coming for some cheeky netplay. You should have tried to crush him, better return on his below avarage serve, getting away time from him. This match means you were not bad in his game in the first set. But what about your game? Your tactic? You should build your own playstyle, in the long-therme it will be better for you. I know you are at the beginning of this journey, keep up the good work. And its always easier from the outside, i didnt mean to criticize you, jut to give you two thoughts that might be useful. Good Luck!
I don't know if you have received good feedback about it, but could you just let your viewers watch the game??...no need for commenting every single shot, thought, feeling you had. It's quite unpleasant 😅 You just can do that when the game is finished. Keep on improving man. You will get there!.
Easy to say but a better serv would be a key factor. I think your serv is your biggest problem. You just need easy and quick points. Right now you are fighting for every single point.
Good game buddy. Felix, if you could notice one thing. His shorts, his movement, and his tennis are a lot more energy efficient than yours. Disclaimer: Not taking any credit from you as I m a fan of yours and follow every video of yours.
I think you needed to have taken the ball earlier, especially when he's looping a ball back whenever you hit a good attacking shot you let it drop a bit which gave him time and the point is reset. Maybe next time, in the first set after hitting a good shot and he loops one, take it really early and angle it to give yourself hopefully more space to attack on the next shot. Like you said, you can't go blasting all the time against a player like this, really tough match to be fair.
as you said this match wasn't tough because you were a worse tennis player this was more of a fitness battle but if you increase that indurance and keep the intensity you could definitely get your atp point. vamos Felix!!
These players are deceptive. You think you are doing well since he is not crushing you with 40 winners but suddenly it's the end of the first set and your legs stop working and he is still getting every ball back at you
We call it stalemate

Hi, nice match, you could have won much more points by going for volley more often when he was on defense. When you hit some good balls you let him recover instead of going for volley :)
That is normal on clay tho. The problem is since the courts are slow for a good player its pretty easy to hit good passing shots.
The first point where Felix went back footed on bad drop shots is the clear example of bad decision.
@@shruk4 watch the match again, plenty of shots that he could have moved in on

Yes thats exactly what he should do, play like Federer 🤣 I cant believe Felix hadnt thought of that
The key is to go for more, when you know you can’t outlast the opponent
you're keep improving, it's just a matter of time and you will get your first atp points, good luck for your next tournaments

Like you said, you can't go blasting all the time against a player like this, really tough match to be fair.
welcome to Türkiye👋 i hope you will play mistakeless
I think you should make more attack.
as you said this match wasn't tough because you were a worse tennis player this was more of a fitness battle but if you increase that indurance and keep the intensity you could definitely get your atp point. vamos Felix!!
