Federer at 37 .. almost 38 .. Flying around the court. Reaching semis of RG 2019 .. Beating Nadal in Wimbledon semi final . Having championship point vs novak. My god .. Man gave us everything.. We miss u Roger.. For me u will always be the GOAT 🐐

As an American RF fan I’ll never forget waking up very early in the morning to watch this match. So lucky we got to see Federer at a high level for the last time
I think this quarter-final is one of the most elegant matches in tennis history. One-handed backhands from both players are joy to watch
Federer here was defying age , semifinals at 38 on a clay court grand slam is crazy, all went downhill after that Wimbledon final unfortunately
Yeah, and the irony is that it sounds like the knee injury that finished him wasn't even tennis related.
He still won Basel and beat Novak at the ATP Final. But yeah, winning Wimbledon 2019 would have been the ultimate farewell gift.
At 37 years old
All of Federer's 2019 Slam losses were dramatic matches in one way or the other
1. AO : The 4R against Tsitsipas was full of drama and emotions. Of course, the ballkid incident came at such an important point in the 4th set breaker
2. FO : Federer could never be a favourite against Rafa but he deserved atleast a set here. The playing conditions were horrible throughout the first 2 sets
3. Wimbledon : No need to say anything
4. USO : Just like his 2017 and 2018 losses, this match was going Federer's way but he just couldn't convert on any opportunity and Grigor sealed the deal.
This would be a dream year for any player. Federer played at such a high level even at 37 years of age. That in itself speaks volumes of how great he was.
Tennis has never been the same without this legend.

Compare this to two tall double hander backhand players just hitting from the baseline all day and just going for power, better to watch this 4 years later. And huge thanks to Roland Gaross for showing this.

Sad the on the day on the semi against Rafa it was windy, cold and the court was slow.
Reminds me of Federer vs Wawrinka 2015 RG quarterfinal. That was also a really good match

Let's not forget that Wawrinka destroyed Roger a few years back in 2015 RG. His favorite surface is clay, and was playing at a high level.
The fact that Federer was able to win this one at 37 years old. One of my favorite matches ever.

Federer was in great form in 2019 RG and could've even beaten Rafa but unfortunately that match occured on a day of bad weather.
LOL 😂 You're talking about defeating a healthy Nadal at Roland Garros. Federer has never won against Nadal at RG, let that sink in first.
@paul.nelson He was close to beat a healthy Nadal in 2011 and as I said before , windy day and bad weather played as a bad luck for Federer in 2019.

I think Rafa was even in better shape in 2019 than Roger and he played really during 2019 season, so I think even if the weather hadnt been so bad this day , Rafa would have also won
