@PapaAnimal It's the RS-7 from Black Rapid and I totally love it.
Brilliant video! Thanks for the super easy to digest information! Love the comparison side by side shots, especially loved the comparison of the old mill stone and how the wide angled shot of the mill stone turned out.
What a beautiful place! Amazing shots again!!!!!
@97BuckeyeNut I doubt anyone would want to buy them, but I thank you for being so kind. (Made me smile)
Have been looking foward to your post. Thanks. .You are perhaps the best teacher I've come across, learnt a lot. Thanks for your service
@Jcscoob It's the excellent RS-7 from Black Rapid
Perfect as usual Gavin. Loving your tutorials. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Gavin,
another great 15 mins. You captured some outstanding shots.
Beautiful photos. Unbelievable place!!
Gavin Hoey, Please come back to youtube! You make the best in field tutorials on youtube. Otherwise, I'd have you as a guest on my channel...
Find him on Adorama TV. He's on an Olympush channel too.
i got so excited when i saw gavin came out with a new video. love your tutorials. great for nubbies like me.
@JackTerminator It's right next to the car park called "Surprise View" just outside Hathersage.
Gavin, I really like your "15 minutes photo challenge"!!
Please more videos like this!
More 15 minutes challenge gavin.
You continue to amazed us with your tutorial vid.
@tylerismybf0 The Canon t2i/550D is an awsome little camera. It's a baby 7D or a 60D without the twisty screen. Gets my vote.
I just love these 15 minute photo challenges! These videos have really tauhgt me a lot about perspective and observation!
@barbadoneo As the aperture number goes up the shutter speed will come down and can cause camera shake or motion blur. Increase the ISO to lift the shutter speed.
@LiztheBRAVE Most shots were OK with a general exposure, but I also had a grey grad filter for the BIG sky shots. Watch closely and you'll see it in my back pocket !
That place is beautiful mr gavin.. awsome work!
@discusdiscus1 It's the "R Strap" from Black Rapid.
@england2345able I have a Kood Grey Grad (can't afford a Lee). Yes I hand hold it and yes I let the camera sort the shutter speed (I work in Av mode)
Gavin Hoey canon rocks
Great video :D I love these.
I live not to far from the peak district, we went up there to take photos when we had all of the snow last christmas, it was amazing.
When in aperture mode, just adjust the exposer setting a stop down.
Or, make note of the shutter speed the camera is indicating, switch to full manual, and drop it a stop (or two).
When you close the aperture (in aperture mode) the camera will always slow down the shutter to compensate for the reduction in light allowed to enter the camera.
If you increase the ISO the camera will speed up the shutter.
@MonkeyWithBuder At smaller apertures like f16 or f22 the shutter speed drops to a much slower speed. If it drops to low for the focal length I'm using I increase the ISO.
My cameras can produce great shoots at 400 and 800 ISO when shot in RAW and processed in Lightroom3 / CS5
@OpticHunter93 Yes it's very close to Shefield.
wow, what a beautiful place, wish i had these kind of landscapes in my country. . . my country has been mostly urbanized, not much nature left.
Great video Gavin as always, I've seen your toturial in Photo magazine too, fantastic boat in the jar :) I tried to creat one and it was great result, Thanks a lot
you are an absolute gifted photographer =]
your work is stunning!
Really great Pictures ! But it is a very beautful location there too :-)
This is an awsome video.
I sometimes have troubles with ideas, I'm don't know really what to shoot. And here you give us some basic ideas and a ''map'', how to find them.
Great work :)
You should do some infrared photos out there! I think that would be rather interesting... Great job on this and all of your videos, Gavin!
I really like all of your videos...thank's a lot...
@ghostgaffdeck08 It's sure it. As a self confessed strap hater the Black rapid is the first strap I actually choose to use. Infact I liked it so much I got one for my wife (not as a birthday present you understand)
You inspired me Gavin... I always fall blank when it comes to just going out and having fun with my camera.
Cheers Mate
@MrChill111 There's always a Hoya UV filter on my lens and I held a grey grad over the lens for the big sky shots. Look close any you might see it sticking out of my back pocket ;-)
@dima9944 A lot less then everyone assumes. Shot in RAW (of course) so I tend to apply a bit of Clarity and tickly the fill light & recovery a bit.
@sheffieldvids Yes it was indeed "Surprise View". If you're going take a credit card as the car park pay&display machine doesn't take coins !!!
2:05 im just excited with that movement !
it is like a combat training movement, but when he "unfolds" the camera its like O.o
hahahaahah i would like to see that in real combat situation...
Sorry to say it Gavin but you're one of the best teachers on the net
That's so pretty!!! But it's in England so I won't be able to visit for a very, verrrryyy long time lol.
i watchall your video's and they are always GREAT, this one included,, cheers, a friend of mine has just starrted in photography and i told her about you, she tries and copies your challanges,, cheers again
Thanks Gavin! Great video.
Very nice.. love your work...
u should make a tutorial on how to make a time lapse.. the location seems ideal for a time lapse... beautiful clouds and location.
thanks!
really enjoy watching
@nerxboy At least you watched it to the end!
awesome photos!
@PhotoGavin In addition, never, and I mean never use the "de-saturate", or "convert to grey scale" option.
In photoshop there is a new adjustment layer option for converting to B&W. Also, the "Calculations" edit is very effective.
I like to just copy one or two of the color channels into empty layers and blend (sometimes two of the same color channel) using layer mode (overlay, color burn, etc.)
You should really come to Dartmoor in Devon for the next challenge. It's beautiful there.
Great Tutorial ..again, sadly when I go the Peaks it raining all the time ! thanks Gav
Great lesson.. always inspring...one suggestion, can you please display the F number and other stats for the photographs as well ?
hello gavin, everytime is a pleasure to see you ... I see you used a ND filter for this shooting. ;-) The location is very interesting and would be ideal for portraits set. Have you used the 24-105?
I astonished by Gavin's eye for composition. I know, most of it is experience, but l think, he has more than experience.
@IAmTheFilmFanatic Well a ND graduated filter acts like sunglasses on the sky (or where ever you position it). Therefore it doesn't effect the ground, and you wont get that weird haze from where the bright bits meet the mids and darks.
Hey Gavin,
Love the pictures from the peak district. 2 quick questions:
how did you get the sky so dark while the ground was so well exposed.
Was it using a graduated filter or did you edit it later on the computer?
Gavin, I love to watch your videos because you teach rather well. However, I was hoping that in the future you would put the information of the image on the screen when you show the still. I would like to know what your shutter/fstop is for each image. Thanks
I really like this 15min challenges but i would like to see you talk about the post you do to the pics slightly as well. Like the landscape shot at 4:23ish did you bring out the rock in post as it seems a lot clearer then the rest.
Another great video! Was that a grad. filter you used in the sky shot?
@jimmyswwf I use Photoshop CS4/5 and/or Lightroom 3
Hi Gavin yet another great wee video, thanks :))
Btw- what is the neck/camera strap you are using in this video ?
Hey Gavin... Is the 24-105 zooming out by itself when you're carrying your cam with the R-Strap? Really want to buy one and I also use that kind of strap. greetings from germany
Hi Gavin,I always amazed on how you can take great pictures only in 15 minutes, I still wonder do you shoot in RAW mode or Jpeg mode?
You should come to like a really-really bad place that people doesn't have interest with to take a photo and do a 15 minutes photo challenge! It'll be so challenging and fun :D
hello gavin great photos as always
can you tell us exactly how did you acheive those great B&W shots?
did you use the ND filter?
what did you do exactly in photoshop?
thank you
That shutter sounds so wimpy... do shutters break often with that camera?
@WetOct0puS yes it is in the northwest part of england :) I live not to far from there :D its a beautiful place.
@PhotoGavin Hi gavin I asked you about the camera strap (2 months ago)
got one delivered at the start of the week and you were right ...... its excellent, cheers ;))
@CarpeNoctemZise One minute challenges.. now that's a thought ;-)
How the heck did you find Narnia? Can I get there from here?
Nice use of the compression effect by using the zoom. (The longer the focal length the more compression you get).
I see very few photographer talking about that effect, but cinematographers use it very often.
Nice! Thank you! Gavin...,
Amazing. I wish we had places like that close to me in Ohio.
It looks a little like Stanton Moor near Bakewell, either way it looks beautiful.
3:50 is excellent!
Hi Gavin.
Do you work on photoshop before posting your photos in this vedio? because the colors really look amazing... :))))
Could you please post a video sometime explaining how you edit images such as these
I miss your 15 minute photo challenge. Can you start them up again?
Wouldnt you not get enough light if you put the aperture really high?
I wondered how you organised all your photos on your computer like in folders etc?
how did you expose the sky and the foreground at the same time? were you using the HDR technique?
Thank you =)
Gavin,
Do you sell any of your photography? I don't see any for sale on your Gavtrain.com website.
Are you wearing the Black Rapid RS-7 That strap is awesome :D
great video… we hope each photo descriptions apiture shutter speed iso thank you gavin
great vid thanx
Could you explain or perhaps make a video on how you edit these photos in photoshop/lightroom?
hi there, i have some questions,
how do u take that picture of minute 2.00??? is because of the lens or photographer ability???
I have a canon xti with 2 lenses one 18-55 and other 55-250...
your B&W photos do you take them like that or do you take them in color and change in PS?
@marshalmathers You can see in a few of the shots that he's holding a graduated neutral density filter, I imagine he was holding it in front of his lens for those shots, he just doesn't show himself doing that. He really should mention that in his video so as not to make people think that shooting wide landscapes in the middle of the day and achieving a balanced sky/foreground is an easy thing to do without such a filter.
What strap are you using? it looks really good
How much post processing do you do on the photos shown?
Would you only do these kind of shots when shooting at sunset ?
Que lugar hermoso. Donde es?
hey Gavin I love the post processing on the images could u please tell me how u did it?
Hello! Can you say what is this strip which you attach you camera?
@MonkeyWithBuder You would get plenty of light but the shutter speed would have to be very slow. He'd/You'd need a tripod, even in full sun, to avoid camera shake. :)
amazing =)
@PhotoGavin what do you prefere 24-70 L or 24-105 L ?
were you using any filters, or was there a bit of editing there?
For you the Lumix FZ100 is good?
How Much? 1 to 10! please
From Costa Rica Nice Videos
hey where did you get your scrap? i like buy one like that :) nice photo
@MonkeyWithBuder Being outside, he should have plenty of light for a high aperture
@LiztheBRAVE
He probly has either a filter, darkens it in photoshop, or uses HDR. My bets on the filter.
