Cheap rent? Try Japan's haunted houses

- Comedian Tanishi Matsubara has an unusual system for renting cheaply in Osaka - he seeks out 'stigmatised property': places in which the previous inhabitant has died. In Japan, the belief that such properties are haunted has even led to a law which means potential tenants must be informed

This is a true story. I worked as an English teacher in Japan for a few years. One of my co.workers (an Australian girl) was placed in the apartment floor above me by her school. Anyways, after a few weeks I bumped into her and she looked exhausted... As if she hadn't been sleeping at all. She said ever since moving in there she had nightmares often about a man trying to claw out her eyes. It terrified her. She seemed an honest type in our previous encounters. So she went to our supervisor and told him since the tiredness was effecting her work performance. He told her that actually the previous tenant in that apartment was a man, and that he had committed suicide in that room years ago. Now she was extra freaked out upon hearing this and wanted to move out asap as she thought she was being haunted. The supervisor tried to placate her by hiring an actual japanese exorcist to go to the room and exorcize the spirit. He used smokes and chants to expel it (allegedly). After that, she no longer had nightmares and lived there for a year happily. It was strange though. She had no prior knowledge of anything bad happening in that place and yet she seemed to be genuinely haunted.
I notice on other channels that when someone dies that all of their stuff is still in their houses in Japan. To a Japanese it is tainted, to foreigners it's a furnished house. Bonus!!!

By jumping from place to place, this man is single handedly raising the cost of living in Osaka.
Carlo Lacap no not really, he is making those houses habitable again. They were not being used because of superstition. So the only houses wo will become more expensive are the houses who are mostly not being used as of being haunted houses.
20 years nobody dared to rent the place. I am pretty sure there are plenty of haunted places to rent.
Annietje01 the second this guy leaves from haunted place to the other, the one he leaves goes off the list and then they charge more to the next person taking his spot. So yes he is increasing the cost of living for many people.
@@GolfYourself
They might increase the places after he left, but since the price is cheaper to start with, it'll just be as expensive of other random places for rent, not more expensive.

I live in London, England. I guess my home is a stigmatised property as the previous tenant purposely drank himself to death over a few days and died in the middle of what is now my bedroom. Ive been living here for 14 years now and although ive felt maybe one or two moments when there was an atmosphere in the flat ive never seen him and even those moments i wouldnt have said they were him. I wish my rent was dramatically cheaper as a result but unfortunately not. Next door last year there was a murder suicide, a month later the flat was back on the market, new tenants moved in with no idea of what happened just a few weeks earlier. Different world.
David David take care
It's about law. In Japan it's the rule to inform new tenant.
In my country it's not ruled just like in your place, a new tenant will not have any idea.
In the us, there is that same law. If its for sale, there is a probate disclosure. And if its rental, there is a disclosure for that. However, the limitation is from the previous inhabitants only since there is next to impossible to provide the full history of the property. Aside from that, there are many Indian burial lands in the states where modern times has no tracking of such relics.
A murder suicide? What does that even mean

I wonder if the tenants didn't know that it was haunted, will they still experience paranormal activities compared to someone who was clearly told that the place they're living in is haunted?
I am really curious if the results will be different proving that paranormal activities may either be real or just a product of human imagination.
It’s a stigma for a reason, not every place is haunted.
It's always a person's imagination why do you think they always have to turn the lights out it allows your mind to imagine the things that are there that you can't see.
It's hardwired Into us as a survival mechanism it's better to imagine something scary and run away if there's nothing there ...

@@Antisocialnerd2It's definitely some sort of nocebo effect.
I've had some paranormal stuff happen to me, but I collect a lot of stuff from yard sales, so the connection of it being haunted is there in my mind.
It's easy to hear or see something strange and attribute it to a ghost when it could literally be because you are sleep deprived.
number rule one for buying a house: If it's way too cheap, it's either haunted or infested with bugs
King Moon I would take it either way, I can deal with both lol

I'd rather take haunted than bugs to be honest
Or the neighbours are gypsies. In my country having or not having gypsy neighbours is a common reason of why a seller would promote the house he is selling, and also a common reason of why someone would refuse to buy it. Funnily enough, we don't care about deaths occuring on it because most of us don't believe in ghosts, but we are a very backward society.
