Spectacular! Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Being from the mainland, I never knew about this place.

So much to see in the islands! and what’s best is that each island is so different

Wow. Thanks for doing this. Not sure I can so the 11 mile hike. Settle for the sunset view at the top :) Looking forward to check out other Maui hiking. My next trip is likely to be Maui and this really helps.

Yes just catching the sunrise or sunset is an awesome experience on top Haleakala. I believe there is a reservation permit system if you catch the sunrise so something to keep in mind. The islands offer so many different things to see! Happy planning!

It’s hit or miss with hitchhiking. Our crew rents two vehicles and park one vehicle at the lower parking lot and another vehicle at the upper parking lot.

That’s a good option too! We were lucky then

Wow i got lucky. I had a bike. I had my thumb out and a $20 bill in other hand and waited 5 mins and a truck got me and bike. He wouldn’t accept the money. So much fun riding down. Keep up videos🤙🏽

Nice! This was our first time ever hitchhiking believe it or not. But I honestly think me recording as Erik signaled deterred the drivers. That’s why toward the end I stopped and instead did a begging pose 🙏🏻haha

@@thehiescapade I do! I grow native plants for Tyrone (and occasionally give talks/ join in on volunteer days). Maybe we'll run into each other sometime. Thanks again for such an informative video!

@@daniellefrohlich1251 Aw nice! Actually I do remember you speaking awhile back (I believe you spoke about what makes a species invasive). Hope to bump into you again at P&P! 😊 Have a fun trip this weekend!

@@thehiescapade Yes- that was me! You have a good memory. :) Full disclosure- my husband accidentally left a message using my account- I didn't go this time, but he had a great trip and it sounds like the weather was perfect. Sounds like it was brutal but totally worth it. I love that you include interesting biology info about Haleakala in addition to useful logistical information- this is well done!

Hi - can you please tell me where I can park the car if my campsite is at Holua.

Hii! It depends your route on what trail you will be starting on and what trail you are exiting off.
The common route for those staying one night only is hiking down sliding sands trail, stay at Holua, and then exit on Halemau’u trail. This would mean best to park your car at Halemau’u trailhead and then hitchhike to the sliding sands trailhead in your first day.
