United States
Приєднався 25 лип 2018
Aloha! My name is Aprille and I am born and raised on Oahu. It was only when I came back home from college in the mainland that I realized how special and beautiful Hawaii truly is. I started hiking in 2012 and haven't stopped since.
On this channel, you can expect to see my hiking adventures, sharing of adventure tips, and also a peek into Hawaii's unique ecosystem and conservation efforts. While I may not be a conservation expert, I'm simply a Hawaiian native plant and bird enthusiast eager to share my passion with others. I hope you enjoy this channel in being able to experience Hawaii through my lens.
Mahalo for visiting!

UNDERRATED MUST DO in Volcanoes NP: Steam vents & the Sulphur Banks trail | Big Island Hawaii

If you are traveling to volcanoes national park in Hawaii, check out this underrated trail: Sulphur Banks trail. It is only a 1.2 mile loop trail, fairly flat, and takes you to a different scenery where you get close to the sulphur banks seeing all the different mineral deposits. Erik and I were just exploring so at the time we backtracked from the deck overlook instead of completing the loop. ...

Did you rent the 4x4 or take the tour?
Hi! We rented a jeep and drove up on our own
Btw thx for replying … we are planning for a vacay in the Big island and i’m trying to gather some info… was there a specific car rental company required that allows to mauna kea?
Very informative video, it'll help me planning our trip to Nikko! Thank you:-)
thank you!
Very good video and information! Thank you for making this. I want to go there too!
thank you! hope you get to see it one day
Thank you for the video. However…. Pillbox?? Pillbox has a couple questionable places where I don’t see a dog going up
Nice
Tokyo Japan is very beautiful and has many delicious foods. Thank you for sharing. 👍💯🔔OK my friend
@@taiwantv68 Thank you!
That is the BEST furikake!
Erik is proud that you echo that statement! It’s super good. I wonder if many Hawaii peeps also end up buying this for omiyage
@ when I was there all the people at that shop were from Hawaii. 😂
@ hahaha of course 🤣. Good to know!
it seems we have a lot of plants like that in australia different names but same plant . terry🤙
That is very cool! I believe we also have similar native plants in NZ too
Going forward, I will be in Oahu May or September. Hard to do it in January
That stuffed animal machine is hard! Almoat a scam. Amazing. And Asian oysters are smaller than the US
Definitely visit these places when I visit Japan. I liked the Lab experience. For the infinite experience, there are some im the US. One of them is in LA
Now I am catch up with the UA-cam videos while in the air. With all time low yen, this is a good trip. Want to see you guys doing deep sea fishing soon? :)
Haha believe it or not me and Erik are not ocean people lol so no thank you
Thanks for this video. Could not do without watching this. Latest update: you can’t go around to the view point since someone locked the wired gate. But it was all foggy when I went up there last Tuesday although it was hot and sunny down. Will never get a drone shot. Lol
Oh again because of this video, I ubered. When I came down at 3 pm or so, there was nothing in the parking lot. Easy to break in
Planning to hike this trail in February and so far I haven’t seen a video of how to get down from this trail, so I am super curious if it was difficult to just so I can be a little extra prepared 😅
Hi! The trail is an in and out route. 1:22 - 1:40 captures the part that you will ascend and descend as that is the beginning/ending. It can be steep however I’ve seen children hike this trail. But I recommend if you want to er on the side of caution, to bring a hiking stick or pole and that should help :)
So I did go but i think I was higher up than you were. I was at a dead end at a tree looking down. Even if I was at your location, how did you get down to the pool? It looks dangerous and how do you get up? I was mad that I couldn’t find a way down and left because it was getting late
Hi if I remember correctly, there is like a banyan tree and just below it is a craig where you have to climb down. It's in line just after the actual waterfall
@@thehiescapade if I ever go again, hopefully I will bump into some people who knows how to get down to the pools. lol im hearing different stories from a lot of UA-camrs
we've always wanted to camp at ho'omaluhia, so beautiful! thanks for all the info and this video :) also that shot at 5:49 - incredible!
Thank you! Hope you guys get to camp there soon. We expected to go birding so we brought our zoom lenses and ended up justt using the lens for the moon haha
Great video! I like learning about the trees. Now, I have to go back. I saw a few petroglyphs when I did it a few days ago. Have you seen those?
No problem! Actually I haven't noticed. I need to go back now and check that out
nice! teamlab Planets expands next month. You missed the best free foot bath with a view on Odaiba.😁
ahhh I guess I gotta go back lol
great video! we love camping and thanks for this informative video. we’ll definitely check it out.😊
Mahalo! Hope you enjoy your camping trip there!
Nice shots and editing, good inspo especially for small new creator like me❤
Nice vlog, very well presented. As a small creator myself, I am truly inspired. I've subbed and wish to follow more of your videos, keep the awesome videos coming!
Thank you so much! Really appreciate the support!
Fun stuff. Now you see why I’m always over there😁
haha yup! I totally understand now 😂

**Note: Unfortunately when reaching upon the gaurd shack, you must have a local Hawaii ID license**
I will be on Oahu starting Dec 7.. if possible I would enjoy hiking with you and your friends.. I also am a HTMC member.. so I will probably be joining one or 2 of the club hikes
Aloha! Unfortunately my weekends for December are filled due to the holiday gatherings and events. But enjoy your time here! HTMC has some good ones listed next month
This is my first time growing Ohi’a so I am open to any suggestions/tips!
Just got back from Nikko. Wish I had seen your video before hand. So many helpful tips! Thanks for making a great video.
Thanks! Hope you had a great time!!
would have loved to hike this, thanks for the video so i could somewhat experience it vicariously through you before its closure 😊
@@riorangerz Thank you!
Correction: The train from and to Asakusa is a LIMITED EXPRESS TRAIN, not shinkansen.
Sorry guys! Turns out we took the LIMITED EXPRESS TRAIN to and from Nikko, not a shinkansen . Correction to the luggage transport company name when we got in Nikko: YAMATO not Yamanote (that's the Tokyo train line LOL)
Hi . For the bus ticket around d Nikko , need to buy in advance ?
Hi! I'm providing a link that shows the timeline on how far in advance. I think if you do it online, you have to book in advance. tobutoptours.com/en/nikko-all-area-pass.html I was able to buy our physical pass the night prior to our departure. I noticed some people also bought their Nikko pass the day of their departure.
Such beautiful place! The hike feels very relaxing! Are there lot of bird species along the way?
Thanks! Mostly non native birds, particularly the white rumped shama bird
Beautiful 👍👍👍🌺
The only falls I ever seen with elevator to bottom😂
unreal
Shinkansen to Nikko? 🤔. Love Nikko. I’ll give you some other great day trips next time.
Sounds like a plan!
Outstanding upload my friend, place looks and feels so exotic! Love your storytelling as well!
Thank you so much!
I love Hiking video. Mahalo from Japan ❤😊
Mahalo nui!
Wonderful video! Very helpful to watch before trying this trail out too!
Thank you! Have fun and stay safe!
Was it humid? 😅
just a bit 😂
Loved! Nice seeing the trails.
Mahalo nui!
Looks like your unidentified honeycreeper at 2:25 is a juvenile 'Amakihi begging for food (classic wing-flutter & begging calls from a drabber bird, following a parent around; I think the plumage looks a bit too disheveled & undeveloped to be an adult female engaged in courtship); if you look up videos of juvenile songbirds begging, you'll see very similar behavior, pretty much universally. Congrats on your unusual sighting! I've been birding annually on Maui for the last half decade, and I'm finally going to bird Big Island this Jan, so your videos are super helpful (love your photos too!). How difficult was the road up to Palila? Did you ever do a private Hakalau tour? I'm never there when the annual public walk happens, but I really hope to see akepa, creeper, and akiapola'au!
Thank you so much! you would love big island, I think there's much more native birds you'll see there versus maui. The road to Palila discovery isn't too bad, but you'll go through bumps for sure. Definitely get a 4 wheel drive though. Haven't done a private Hakalau tour, that is on our wishlist though. I still gotta see the Aki one day. Hopefully you can attend the annual Walk for Wild at Hakalau, that's a great opp to see the akepa, alawi, and aki!
Hawaii nature center is one of the only field trips i remember from elementary school days! Such a cool spot
Came out great Aprille. I wish your channel nothing but success.
Mahalo nui Troy!
What day did you hike?
Hi, we hiked on 9/8
I do environmental and conservation work here in Oahu, and I wish that you touched on the negatives about microspikes in this video. As it tears up the trails and rips out the native plants. Since they dig in, they pull out the roots of native plants that hold the topsoil together. Without that topsoil, the bedrock gets exposed, leading to the massive erosion that we see on a lot the trails. That bedrock is the super slippery muddy chunks that are all throughout eroded trails. In turn, the erosion creates landslides and causes more damage to the trails. This should be weighed out before buying microspikes
Hi, thank you for your suggestion. I agree, spikes can tear up the terrain more. Will consider adding this to the con list this for a future video on spikes.
Hi! I’ll be visiting Hilo next year! Could you give me some tips for transportation? Is it necessary to rent a car to go everywhere?
Nice! I highly recommend getting a rental car to get around the island. There’s the local buses, but it’s not as convenient since the places are all spread out and it rains alot so it won’t be pleasant if walking in the rain to get to places
Kind of Karama when you over book and they keep your money because you didn't read the rules. Also no DOGS... they scare some people, possibly over a cliff! Also if no ones watching, how many people are actually going to pick up the poop? Also the urine and feces can kill off native plants and cause a stink for others. NO DOGS in public and environmental protected areas makes total sense.
how can u get that close to those 2 big waterfalls?
