I was legit in the Vampire Society in the 90s. I only joined to get laid 😂. The majority of people just loved having drinks, walking graveyards. Many had permanent fans. There was nothing satanic that I witnessed. Only a minority were into biting and drinking blood. A couple of odd balls. Most were just goths, chilling and enjoying the lore.

I’m calling cap on tens of thousands. I live about 40 miles from Dayton and I have to say that it’s extremely hard to hide the existence of a group that large.
I lived in Columbus, OH from 1994-1998 while attending Ohio State and there was quite the gothic/vampire subculture there, mostly high school and university students, but some were in their 30s and 40s. Many hung out at Insomnia Coffeehouse (which I also frequented, though I wasn't goth, nor vampire) on High St across the street from the old Ohio Union building at OSU and at Outlands bar. Most were "Vampire the Masquerade" LARPers, but some did actual bloodletting and blooddrinking and thought that it would gave them super dooper special powers and would even make them immortal. SMH. I have seen many of them on FB and they're aging as one would expect. Haha! So much for becoming immortal or drinking blood giving them perpetual youthful rejuvenation. Who'd have thunk that they'd age? LOL.
Anyways, when raving overtook the goth subculture as the new "alternative" youth subculture in the mid-late 1990s, most of the goths and vampires became ravers. Just shows how they were just following one youth subculture to the next when a new one arose.

Agreed. Also from Dayton. I’m usually not one to stereotype or put people in a categorical box but all those people that were claiming to be vampires were people that were bullied in school and not paid any attention to at home. Most of them came from wealthy suburbs, had access to their family money and secured “friendships” with said monies. I will say though, I worked for a youth crisis/shelter that occupies the building the Asylum was in. All I can say is, working third shift was creepy and I totally believe in ghosts now. I absolutely NEVER went into the basement by myself at any time of day.
