Excellent video Mike. The two kits I purchased from you two years ago are still going strong today. Both GM kits, SC130D and AD244. I always prefer to rebuild my own then purchase a box parts store rebuild unit.
Great video mike i would like to make myself a 15kva generator to run mig and stick welders would there be any alternators big enough to do that thanks in advance to urself and any other comments welcome.
I recommend a separate AC generator to avoid spikes and feedback voltages that could damage the vehicle system. Automotive alternators can be used but would end up problematic.
Hi Mike, very detailed video. Do you have a rebuild kit that will increase the output of the alternator on my 2013 Camaro SS? I didn't see it on your website.
Sorry, no. Some alternator designs are not friendly enough to be done by non experienced. No offense intended, you may be an excellent mechanic, but we have purposely avoided certain alternators that may have a low success rate for "at home" rebuilds. There can be several reasons for this, parts availability and non interchangeable parts are among the top reasons. Specialized tools required, also. So if it's a low success rate, we won't encourage it by selling stuff that won't work out.
I have a dual battery 97 Suburban K2500 6.5L diesel with what appears to be a cs130d. It has a 4 wire connector, but only uses 2. One wire goes to the tach. The other goes to the battery light. All parts places here in Jacksonville FL sell a regulator that won't mate to the brush holder assembly. My brush holder assembly has a two flat shapes that intersect forming a point that matches the voltage regulator at the bolt hole near the external connector. All of the parts places here sell a regulator that has a rounded cutout on the underside... Not a "angled" one. This prevents the mounting bolt to align. Watching your excellent video, I noticed your brush holder has the flats like mine. Also, the diodes in mine, like yours, are not "stacked" like cs130d's seem to have. Can you please explain this difference? Which regulator should I use? Although not listed as a replacement, I tried a D702 regulator. It will fit. Sadly, it only lasted a few minutes. Maybe just poor quality. Both batteries were charged (12.5V) and voltage from the dash battery light to the alternator reads 11.6 volts.

Hi, I just recently purchased a kit from you. I was just wondering how I could get noticed if my order went through and how I could know when to expect arrival. Thank you
What is the idle Amp output on this upgrade? I have the 1997 gm 15 Amp output. I added electric fans and now the alternator can't keep up. Will this work?
What rpm is the 160amp output? I see versions being sold as 160 amp at 600rpm. And 320 amp at cruising rpm. Very nice video. You make me want to rebuild my own alternator. I am going to look at getting this kit. 👍🇺🇲👌
The highest amp rating would be at higher rpm's (3000) depending on pulley size and amp demand. This system is not for super hi-watt stereo systems. This is for folks who have added on to factory or just want a little extra power. In depth explanations at www.starteralternatorrebuildkits.com
@@rebuilderinabox Thanks. But I was curious about those super high amp versions for using many accessories like lights, winch, inverter, air compressor. That type of setup. Or should I go dual alternator? Thanks.
@@emanuelnamseth1469 for that stuff, try 2 batteries first. Use heavy duty lead acid, and one parrallel (no splitter or isolator). Mount a motorcycle trickle charger for the down times. If that doesn't work, then go with the hi amp or 2 alternators.

@@lostkauz83 Optimas are horrible for voltage reg life expectancy. What Advance will never admit is horrible amp hour ratings and glass mat is not really compatible with automotive volt reg. A lead acid wired in parallel will help.

Hi, I have a 2004 Chevy 6.6 ltr diesel. It currently has a 105 amp. alternator with a 4 pin. I want to upgrade my current alternator, so I can power extra batteries for my camper trailer. Can I upgrade my current alternator for a higher output?
Yes. You would need this kit : alternatorstarterrebuildkits.com/product/ad230/ And then make it a hi output (+ 40-50 amps) with kit : alternatorstarterrebuildkits.com/product/ad230-high-amp-stator-upgrade/
I already have a 240 amp alternator i need to upgrade to over 300 amps is that possible? I have my aftermarket one i bought. and i still have my stock 140 amp ac delco 4 pin one as well .what would i need ?
You need a 12kW (12kVA) powerhead unit from a 16 to 20hp generator. You'd be hard pressed to get much over 2000W (2kW) from an automotive alternator, especially continuously. Most of those larger generator units would give you 220V output split phase, which might be more useful to you anyway.
Hello, I have a 2001 chevy s10 with a 4.3 eng you have 4 different rebuilt kits, what's the difference? FYI you put solder flux or paste to make the solder flow easier thank you!
One is starter. One is alternator. One is hi amp alternator. Many vehicles will have more than one alternator, just click the kit and the the movie explains all the details. But visual ID (see which one you have) is always a good idea. ie. You have a 2001 but how long have you owned it? Someone else may have installed an interchange ; so you would need THAT kit. The how to movies start out by explaining physical attributes for easy identification. We recommend everybody to watch the how to movies first, so they know if they have the BASIC tools and skills needed to be successful with the rebuild. If you have flux, great, but for that particular application, you don't have too. We don't (here in the shop), but for smaller things we reccommend Ruby Red liquid flux, not a paste.
@@PROATV13rb Multiple alternators is the RIGHT way to go when you need lots of power. The super hi amp single alternator has a lot of cooling problems. That's why we only deal with a modest amps increase.

Which, depending on application, may require vehicle modification to compensate for physical size and the fact that there may be a vehicle mounting bracket where the 130D has a ground boss made into the rear plate. Point being : If you need a serious amp increase, it's better to increase the size of the alternator. But for moderate amp increases (like we explain in the video) the rebuild style we demonstrate makes more sense because we KNOW that vehicle modification is unnecessary.
