Nice review. Based on your and others’ reviews of the 2020 Si, I got an Si. This was my number two choice. I chose the Si based on performance and price. This would still be an excellent choice.
Kevin Norris I wish it had the LED turn signals in the mirror. Other than that, no - I have no complaints. The sound enhancement in Sport Mode isn’t too terrible, the safety tech works great and their sensitivity can be adjusted or turned off (there was one magazine review that criticized the automatic high beams). Also, the shorter ratio in 6th does make the adaptive cruise work better for highway cruising. It really is a double personality car: total highway cruiser with tons of safety / high performance howler that asks you to give it more when you run it out. I am very happy with my car!
Bazoo 1968 If I bought it, I would disable that automatic braking feature they have. The forward collision system hasn’t done that for me at all. But it has a button over on the left side of the steering wheel where you can turn it off. So on the two times I’ve taken it out on two lane blacktop roads, I’ve turned that, the road departure mitigation, and traction control all off (those are the three buttons on the left). Also: you could be thinking of the road departure mitigation system. That has been sensitive, but like the other nanny-tech, you can adjust its sensitivity. I hope this helps.
This Civic is an awesome daily driver only problem with it is the price. $28k is steep for what you're getting. Maybe makes better sense if you're leasing the car. Joe, great review as always. You're the hardest working man on UA-cam!
Keep in mind, this is the fully loaded Sport Touring Hatchback. The now well equipped 2020 Sport Hatchback is a better value if you don't need all the optional gear.
Called a dealer addendum. Don't let that scare you. When I bought my Frontier they had one adding 3K for "market adjustment" You just have to be uglier then they are. I generally put my hand on that sticker, look at the sales person and tell them I don't even see this. I will negotiate off MSRP as if the addendum was not even there. Hate buying cars. Its such a game. Ended up getting it a dealer invoice with no doc fees. Some cars are harder to work good deals. But I would never pay over MSRP. Never. Dealer add on's are gimmicks and usually add little to no value.
@@HiPlains1 Knowledge is power. I call that stealership scalping fees. $3K seems like the standard dealership markup for the Hondas at the local dealership here, in Honolulu.
The Si doesn't have leather seats or hatchback form. You can always add the LSD down the road if you get the hatchback. I just don't like sedan or coupe.
No two way dampers, no sport mode so you can switch between two tunes, no lsd, less efficient turbo, smaller front breaks... Si is a better car all around. Be cool if it was a hatch though, I have an 18 sedan si, I wish it was a hatch.
@AOMechMarine AOMechMarine Exactly! Each Honda Civic models are configured that way for a purpose and specific price point. If you want more performance, and intend to tune it, get the Si, especially with the new 2020 updates. Adding an LSD is not the easiest thing to do on a car like this, and unless you are in the Type R and Si performance niche, it's best to leave this, and maybe the regular Sport Hatchback almost stock. The main thing problem with changing the stereo head unit is the integration of the rear backup camera screen. The Si, Sport Touring Hatchback and Type R all have the 540 watt top line stereo with 9 speakers on the Si and 12 on the two above mentioned Hatchbacks. The head unit is fine. I just wish it had a CD player, or at least an auxiliary audio input jack. If you are not satisfied with the sound, I would find a really good professional car stereo shop and upgrade the stock location speakers to top lines ones, aftermarket amps, and a DSP processor to improve the audio signal from a company like Rockford Fosgate. Yes, this is the non Si, fully optioned version of the Sport Hatchback, that was much improved for 2020 with all the things it lacked that the 2019 non Turbo Sport Sedan/Coupe got for 2019. That is a better value that this car, unless you must have the LED headlights, turn signals in the mirrors, sunroof, beautiful leather seats, heated rear seats and rear seat armrest, and all the extra options, including the rear seat map pocket, that they should have the left side, too, and if you can afford the few extra thousands of dollars, and willing to pay for it. And yes, the 6 speed manual for more reliability, durability, and longevity than the CVT, previously only available in Canada. And I believe it's only available in Sonic Grey Pearl, like this one, black, or white. There are two aftermarket shifter kits I know of, to improve feel, and shorten the throws. One is more complicated and mounts on the actual shifter in the center console. The other is a simpler set up that modifies the linkage underhood at the firewall, by removing fewer parts for access. Hondata and KTuner are the 2 companies to go to if you want to bump up the performance more, but remember, any mods like that has potentially higher wear and tear, especially if you abuse and thrash you vehicle. Ultimately, I want a 2020 Toyota Camry TRD with the option package, but it several thousand more, and the 8 speed transmission is said to not shift as it should, though I believe the TRD is recalibrated over the XSE V6 version. And the 2020 Si made me drool with the updates, and exhaust sound, but being older, and not needing all the extra performance, I think this Sport Touring Hatchback exactly like in this video would probably be best for me.
@AOMechMarine AOMechMarine Well if you are a good mechanic and know one, and have the money. But I heard for most people, Honda said it wasn't the easiest to do. But the real question is, do you need it on this car? You might as well just get an Si, and be that far ahead in performance gear already designed into the car. I also edited, and edited more, trying to remember everything you stated in your initial comment.
Yes. The CVT is available, because the market majority wants an automatic. This one, unlike some other brands I won't mention will last quite a while with a CVT, if you change the transmission fluid about 40K miles, and don't abuse/thrash the car, but nowhere close to how long a manual can last, like their engines.
Honda builds excellent cars and the Civic Sport Touring is no exception. Personally, though, a few zonks. The fake vents covered with egg crates are a major turnoff. And seldom mentioned is the center mounted exhausts. Makes a hitch mounted bike rack almost impossible. Finally, sometimes a minor issue can be a deal breaker for some buyers. For me, it's the absence of rear seat AC outlets. The back seat of my car is a second home for my large dog. And while he would no doubt suffer in silence without a cooling breeze after a romp at the dog park, I wouldn't do that to him. All in all, I'll stick with my beloved GTI with a stronger engine and more overall cargo space in a vehicle that's nearly a foot shorter.
Honda always seems to come with the A-Game. This new 2020 Sport Touring is no exception. I know what you mean about the seats Joe. I have the 2019 Civic Sport Sedan and I am always trying to find the sweet spot as far as seating position is concerned. When my lease is up in another two years I will definitely check out what Honda is offering. In the meantime I am really enjoying my Civic. Great job Joe, thanks for sharing.
The color is Sonic Grey Pearl, only available on the Civic Hatchbacks. Other vehicle makes have a similar color, but those do not have the chameleon like properties of this paint, that looks different colors, depending on lighting and angles.
Love these videos, this is my favorite Honda car by far especially because it's a manual and in the sonic gray, probably the best 4-door car in the world for the price of a base sport model
You need to order them. Gee how do I know? Just put down a thousand yesterday for the Sport same color. Here is a hint go thru Costco as you'll save a few bucks. 21,600 on my contract. I could care less about a sunroof and heated seats. Just more crap to break over time. 6 or 7 grand can fill up the fuel tank more than a few times.
@@Tsalinger Bingo! For 2020, they added all the goodies the Sport Hatchback lacked for years, that the Non turbo 2.0L engine Sport Sedan/Coupe last year in 2019. That car is even a better value and more reliability, durability, and longevity if the 20 less HP is fine with you. The Sport Touring Hatchback is merely the luxury version of the Sport Hatchback, if you must have, and are willi h to spend the dinero for all the extra amenities.
Yes. Since they finally added all the goodies for 2020 that it didn't have all these years, that was added in the Sport Sedan/Coupe for 2019. Keep in mind, that this is the fully loaded luxury version Sport Touring Hatchback version in this video. Joe reviewed a CVT version of the 2020 Sport Hatchback a while back.
@@xil3ntkha0s I hear a lot of WRX owners say that the seating position is too high. I always thought it was perfect. I like being able to see down the hood.
Car Story From a WRX owner, I think the seating position is great. I love being able to see the hood, and it makes it easier for me to determine if I’m going to hit the car in front of me when pulling out.
Hey Joe, another great review. I like the changes to clean up the design but I agree they should have gone further. I am craving chicken and waffles every time I see the rear end! That color on the featured Civic is gorgeous!
You are seriously coming a long way in your reviews. I like that you do your homework and know car specs in detail beforehand. Also, big thumbs up for bringing up the fact that you should never rest your foot on the clutch, even a bit. PS - the dead pedal is metal on the Accord Sport. It really does add a nice touch. I have the 2.0T 6MT Accord.
I know everybody wants a manual for some reason, but not really applicable in major city (LA) commute traffic every day. I have this same car in the CVT. I was one of those not thrilled at getting a true automatic transmission for this Civic. But I have to say, its pretty cool. Response is really impressive. I guess I've turned to the dark side. As always, great great review!!
Well if you have to battle LA traffic a MT would be horrible. Used to live in Cali back in the 80's so I know what you mean. Except its probably 10X worse now lol.
@@HiPlains1 Would give anything for 80's traffic. Meanwhile, I'll watch the all these great reviewers do thier test driving with a MT Civic on those beautiful open roads and highways. One day. Stay safe my friend!!
I know how you feel. NYC traffic is almost as bad as LA traffic, and I commute in a 2018 WRX manual trans. You do get used to the traffic after a while, but it gets tedious and annoying during heavy traffic situations. You should know though that of all the manual transmissions out there, I’ve heard that Honda’s are some of the most manageable to drive in traffic.
My biggest zonk with the manual touring is that’s it’s only offered in this color and white or black. Thanks for this review though. I’ve been really looking forward to it.
LOL I thought u couldn't get a Manual Transmission in the Sport Touring Trim, only the Sport , SI , & Type R . I guess now Honda has added the option of a Manual Transmission in the Sport Touring Trim 👍🏼.
Added just this year, with the same exterior styling updates like the Sport Hatchback, except of course, the LED headlights and turn signals in the mirrors, and all the other available options. I think the LED headlights are slightly improved, but other than the exterior refresh, it is basically a carryover, except for the 6 Speed manual available only on Canada previously, limited to 3 colors.
All the Civic colors are nice, with silver being the most plain. But all the three colors available with the 6 Soeed Manual are all Pearl finish paints, the Sonic Grey shown here, the White, and Black, with the Sonic Grey Pearl having a unique chameleon like quality, looking different shades in various angles and lighting.
Having a mk7 golf, I really like the hatch design of this civic. It does a few things better than the golf. 1. its a larger area by far, 2. they have enough area behind the wheel well to put in a subwoofer, the mk7 is too small to do this. 3. the design of the built in cover and partition built into the hatch door is brilliant, my cover I have to remove if I want to fit a bike or something in there where as this civic has it all built in.
This is what it is. What it's not, is a more expensive wannabe Si. If you get an Si, it was made to be Sport performance, and more tunebility. Your GPS on your smart phone will work with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. This has built in GPS as an option, and all the luxury options the Sport Hatchback does not. This car, and Si, and Type R all have the top of the line Honda 540 watt stereo. 3 more speakers on this car and the Type R because of the Hatchback configuration. Ever since they put the rear backup camera screen in the radio deck, I would not change it... there are probably lots or other vital vehicle functions integrated into the stereo deck. I wish it had a CD player, or at least an auxiliary audio input jack. If you are not satisfied with the sound, that can be fixed, but it won't be cheap. I would go with the add on jack mentioned above, and a Rockford Fosgate DSP unit to improve the audio quality, and top of the line Power Amps and stock location speakers. And if you Boom your bass, dampen all the rattles from the license plate frames, or whatever, or it will sound like poop when you crank it up, and everyone will think you're a juvenile, or big kid...
Nice review Joe, I am picking up this exact car tomorrow only in black and CVT! Fun fact did you know these and the Type R’s are manufactured in Britain? I never thought I’d ever own a UK built car!
Yup Swindon UK! Sad truth however is that Honda is closing Swindon in favor of US locations in Ohio, the Carolinas and other various locations. But you made the right choice getting the Civic! Enjoy!
Honda is closing the Civic hatchback (including the Type R) production line in UK and move into the US in next couple of years. That's a good news I guess.
I believe they have moved from the UK plant to Canada if they haven't already. Open the driver's door and check the sticker in the door jamb area for where it was built. And congrats. Enjoy.
I got a 2019 hatch sport in rallye red but I'm going tomorrow to maybe get a Type R in Rallye Red been wanting the Type R since 2017 now the dealership by me finally got one in the color I've been wanting, still got a 13' Wrx for my winter and bad weather car too
Nice job with the review Joe! I do think that the trim is true leather opposed to the Leatherette mentioned in the video! My apologies if it is Leatherette however. I am really just assuming that Honda wouldn't step backwards as my 2013 Civic EX-L Navi has true leather seats.
I just got the Honda Civic EX hatchback and it is surprisingly quick! Sport Touring was a bit to high of price and the Ex was perfect! Part of the Sonic Gray club lol
Honestly I love hatchbacks and wanted an si hatch but after seeing all the models in person I got a black si sedan it looks way better than the hatch or the coupe.
Nice work, and yes, why doesn’t Honda offer the Si in the Hatchback!!?? I have a 2017 Hatch Sport Touring CVT but wouldn’t have hesitated to upgraded to the Si if it was available as I wish it had more power. I have little interest in the Type R though as It’s way to aggressively styled. (It’s not for everyone)
My teen would much rather drive the Civic. This is the best looking Honda. They really need to clean their corporate house and get new management and/or designers.
I'd rather do without the extra crap in the touring, its just extra weight at the end of the day. I can add junk to my civic sport or just keep it light weight and tune it..ya that sounds about right.
@@RaitisRides Got to remember its a compact. I'm surprised it had the power seats. Can't even think of a compact that has that. But maybe they are starting to pad them up more.
@@HiPlains1 Just heated seats. Remember that the Sport Touring Hatchback is the luxury version of the standard Sport Hatchback, which seriously lacked extra goodies it got this year, for 2020, that was introduced last year in the non turbo 2.0L engine Civic Sport Sedan/Coupe. The Sport Touring Hatchback is there, if you like the Sport Hatchback, but willig to spend the extra money for the LED headlights, mirror turn signals, leather heated seats, sunroof, heated rear seats, right side seatback map pocket, rear seat center folding armrest with cupholders, and the 12 speaker, 540 Watt stereo system with onboard GPS, and the electric adjust front seats, and lighted visor vanity mirrors, automatic dimming rear view mirror, and maybe a few other things like rain sensing automatic windshield wipers.

If I was looking for a compact 5-door, this would be it. The Corolla is also a superb compact 5-door, but it has a smaller cargo area and slightly less power.
The Civic rides better, and the Sport Sedan/Coupe and turbo hatchback is better bangs for your buck. The new Matrix aka Corolla XSE hatchback is about the same price as the Civic Sport Touring Hatchback. The SE is more stripped down.the Corolla Sedan is nice, but the XSE is likewise expensive, and not available with the 6 speed manual, and the hybrid CVT with the physical first gear has a recall. I am not sure they really fixed the problem for that. Maybe a software update that may recur with the problem later.

Nice review. I do wish Honda made the Si available in the hatchback. I had an ‘05, the 2-door hatch they made for a few years, and loved that car.
Three years ago today! So my first vehicle.
This car is going to age beautiful (especially the drivetrain) 👌
Ayyaz Mahmood yea like milk

Great review. Honda makes some great products, I'm on my fifth Accord.
Looks pretty good. Would rather have the Si overall, but I like the leather interior of this a lot more.
I totally agree with you!
Yeah I have my seat all the way up to try to mitigate the sunken feeling.
I’m glad he said something about the seats because I thought I was imagining things.
It's funny how that is.
@@clerk262 I am right there with you!
this light blue color is very underrated
need more to see on roads!!!!!!!!!
The color is Sonic Grey Pearl, only available on the Civic Hatchbacks. Other vehicle makes have a similar color, but those do not have the chameleon like properties of this paint, that looks different colors, depending on lighting and angles.
With a nice medium dark tinted windows and this color ... car will have a premium look
I totally agree with you!
Love these videos, this is my favorite Honda car by far especially because it's a manual and in the sonic gray, probably the best 4-door car in the world for the price of a base sport model
I am so glad that you like this one.

I bought a red Hatchback Sport with the cvt, now wish I had opted for the 6. I really love the rest of the car it is beautiful.
Unless you live in Canada, it was not available in the US until this model year, 2020, if you can find one.
Somebody wiped their nose there... now i gotta go and burn my hands lol 😂
That sonic grey pearl 😍

My favorite is the Aegean Blue but the grey is also a very very close second

Joe Raiti you make great videos
If they make the si in a hatchback that would be amazing for 2021 with a whole new design
I have the same issue with Honda Civics. The seat position is always lower than I like.
At least it isn't just me!
Have a 18 hatch and yes the seating position is lower than I'd like but then again my WRX has a high seating position. I can't win lol
@@RaitisRides Joe, of you put a plywood board on the seatback, you can add lumber support real cheap! :D
That is a really nice unique color that really pops in person but seems lacking on camera. Still they need a SI hatch.
Hey Joe, another great review. I like the changes to clean up the design but I agree they should have gone further. I am craving chicken and waffles every time I see the rear end! That color on the featured Civic is gorgeous!
I’m looking for a manual hatchback right now and they’re really hard to find 😢
Got one 2 weeks ago :)
Can't wait to see your review of the 2020 type r👍
Nice looking Civic. The manual would definitely be the choice for fun driving. Thanks for sharing it Joe and nice review! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
I am so glad that you like this one Larry!
Great review and I would love to see more reviews on cars like this
You are seriously coming a long way in your reviews.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I totally udnerstand!
@@kevinnorris6558 Good to know! Someday, would love to own a Type-R or STI. Thanks for the words of encouragement!!
My biggest zonk with the manual touring is that’s it’s only offered in this color and white or black. Thanks for this review though. I’ve been really looking forward to it.
How does this model drive compared to the SI?
LOL I thought u couldn't get a Manual Transmission in the Sport Touring Trim, only the Sport , SI , & Type R . I guess now Honda has added the option of a Manual Transmission in the Sport Touring Trim 👍🏼.
It is is a smart move.
@@RaitisRides Very much so. Good job Honda 👍🏼🤩❤.
Yep, manual in the touring trim is brand new for 2020.
@@maestrojo Yep I knew it 🤝🏼
Added just this year, with the same exterior styling updates like the Sport Hatchback, except of course, the LED headlights and turn signals in the mirrors, and all the other available options. I think the LED headlights are slightly improved, but other than the exterior refresh, it is basically a carryover, except for the 6 Speed manual available only on Canada previously, limited to 3 colors.
Wow, you dont see pinstriping on new cars anymore usually. That's an odd design choice.
Nice color scheme. I really like it! I also like the gear shift!
This car would look super clean in white! Very nice
Great video love the video
Thanks Tommy for letting me share it with you!
This car is only a tiny fraction slower than the Si in a very practical package. It’s quite compelling in either Sport or Sport Touring trims.
Thanks for sharing that great input and perspective!
$3000 extra for leather, gps and detuned engine is a huge zonk. Just get the si, swap out the seats and radio if you want that luxury for cheap
I totally agree with your zonk!
z o n k
The si has the same radio fyi
David Oconnell not quite. The si doesn’t have integrated gps.
Doesnt Elantra GT N-line has a 6 speed manual w 1.6 turbo?
Yes it does!
i have the sport hatch 2018 and pretty love it. just got some sounds mods ans boom fun time!!!
Is the rev hang the same as the SI? Better or worse?
And does it have a spare tire? Unlike the SI.
Nice review Joe, I am picking up this exact car tomorrow only in black and CVT! Fun fact did you know these and the Type R’s are manufactured in Britain? I never thought I’d ever own a UK built car!
This is 100% true! Congrats on your new car Peter!
That's a good news I guess.
ken cai that would be one cool car plant tour!
I believe they have moved from the UK plant to Canada if they haven't already. Open the driver's door and check the sticker in the door jamb area for where it was built. And congrats. Enjoy.
I got a 2019 hatch sport in rallye red but I'm going tomorrow to maybe get a Type R in Rallye Red been wanting the Type R since 2017 now the dealership by me finally got one in the color I've been wanting, still got a 13' Wrx for my winter and bad weather car too
That would be a nice garage setup!
Nice job with the review Joe! I do think that the trim is true leather opposed to the Leatherette mentioned in the video! My apologies if it is Leatherette however. I am really just assuming that Honda wouldn't step backwards as my 2013 Civic EX-L Navi has true leather seats.
The only thing I wish my Si had was the touring side mirrors with the LED turning signals😭😭
At 4:10 - "This is an actual aerodynamic piece!" OMG! I own one of these and this guy is really reaching in this vid! Honda loves him though!
You can ONLY get the manual in the Mazda 3 if you opt for the top spec model, kinda odd but I'm glad its still available!
This is true!
That is a good point!

I totally agree with you Herman!
