I remember the first time I saw a GNER eurostar was when I was 10 back in 2000 at my local station New Barnet. My mum and I went to New Barnet station to enjoy train action and when I saw a northbound GNER eurostar I was so shocked and surprised I shitted myself! Such memories that will never fade.
Loved the GNER livery! I like the VETC livery as well (much better than the former grey East Coast livery) but it wasn't the same when GNER got taken over by national express!
I like the original lights too, although the newer LEDs give her a more fresher look that doesn't spoil Kenneth Grange's iconic design which after 40+ years stills looks better than most newer trains especially the bug eyed Voyager.
I remember feeling lucky enough to ride in one of those 'GNERStars', as I used to call them, on my way back from York to Newark after a trip to the railway museum....Man that takes me back.. must've been about 8 at the time
With Eurostar bidding for the ECML after British Rail (aka - East Coast) leave AGAIN! Hopefully they will make up for this by getting rid of class 91's and replacing them with the Eurostar fleet. (the new eurostar E-320 stock will take over channel tunnel runs) and then the 91's can work with class 90 stock on the GEML
@Death783 was was end of the lease - they were hired in originally to support the Kings Cross - Leeds services. I guess they were no longer required so lease not renewed and probably to avoid the on-going costs of maintaining 'non-standard' equipment against the fleet of HST and 225 sets
@trainlover658 am not sure - these were regional eurostar sets - GNER were short of some sets for their service delivery so whether these sets were spare and available for leasing to fill the hole?
@EqualityScotland I always thought the GNER livery was fabulous not just on the 225 and HST sets but also really suited the 373s - I also loved the seemingly effortless way they glided along on their articulated bogies, and that so distinctive sound of the 373 hum
its power supply problems that caused the lower speeds on the eurostars. They drank too much electricity and could trip the section out. i still dont know why they didnt go for 90s and mk3 stock tho.
such a pity the eurostars were never allowed to do more than 110mph.. hopefully in the future the ecml will get upgraded speed increases will happen.. too much to ask I feel
They were only allowed to do 110 MPH on the ECML because they would drain to much power from the centenary if they were to go over 110 MPH on the ECML .
Here is an Story about it: Five of the North of London sets were leased to GNER in 2000 to operate services from London King's Cross to York and later Leeds under the White Rose brand. Two operated in debranded Eurostar livery, while three sets were covered in GNER deep-navy vinyl wraps. On rare occasions, sets were formed of a GNER and an unbranded Eurostar halfset. The lease concluded in December 2005 and they were returned to Eurostar. The doors of the first and last coach were locked out of use, as the units were too long for intermediate station platforms; use of the coaches was permitted. On the East Coast Main Line they are restricted to 110 mph (177 km/h), shown by blue "TGV" signs next to the tracks, or required to only use a single pantograph.
Class 373s sound amazing under 110mph
I though it was 125mph?
@@TheosTrainsWalesOfficial if I'm correct I can hear the screeching of brakes. It would have been slowing down.
@@RegiRaidillonVT yea the first couple of shots are coming out of Peterborough and entering
Talk about prestigious. A 373 in GNER livery!! I think I'm in love...
As good as the Eurostar is, the REAL "star" of this video is the HST. She's our TGV.
nah our TGV has to be the HST
Yep u can't beat a screaming hst any hst
Swrfan thats what he just said aboutb3 years ago
I think the ECML definitely boast some of the country's most handsome trains of this age. Just a shame the Eurostar's don't run on it anymore.

beautiful train this is..awesome capture...excellent work friend..greetings from india!!!
Great video. Nice to see the HST with its original light cluster design....far better than the newer LED circular design.
+ the right spicy thrash of the Valenta's :D

I remember when the 125 HST's had those engines. Makes me miss them a lot and also GNER so much

Great video. Almost 15 years ago.
@tpe18509 thanks very much mate - yes the 'flying banana' is in there - yes the eurostars were just used on the Kings Cross to Leeds services
@Death783 They were on load to GNER while the class 91 sets were being referbished. Once the 225s were referbushed the eurostars weren't needed.
Wow! I was not even a year old. The good old days

@A0990Productions many thanks
Still can't believe this actually happened! Why'd they get rid of them?
@rachaelmatt totally agree - still think the GNER was quietly stated elegance - many thanks for the comment :)
All still running on Victorian engineering. Amazing. Miss those White Rose services though, best looking liveries by far. :)
@TheClaasFahrer thanks very much
@Cazkumali
Agreed. I would've loved to have seen them in person.
@toady446 thanks very much Toady - the video collection well from when I started to the present day is around 80 hours at the moment
素晴らしい! いつかイギリスに行って鉄道旅行を楽しみたいです!
@NapierNimbus and now these Eurostars are driving between Lille and Paris against 300 km/h
@trainlover658 am not sure - these were regional eurostar sets - GNER were short of some sets for their service delivery so whether these sets were spare and available for leasing to fill the hole?

The TGV world record train achieved 574 KPH or 357MPH! I couldn't believe it at first either!
ps. those eurostars are plying their trade in france now to replace some of their TGV's
+Al H Aren't some of them being scrapped now?
I was under the impression that SNCF were using them as additional cover / services in Northern France.
+Al H some of the them are according to wiki, though they may be the spare 3 capitals sets not the north of London sets.
Well have you heard there are class 800 and 801s coming out from hitachi!
Correct! The first ones will enter service from 2017.
@Stephenb1973 cheers Steve yes the Eurostars are much missed
@itfcsam thanks mate :)
very great video!!!
its power supply problems that caused the lower speeds on the eurostars. They drank too much electricity and could trip the section out. i still dont know why they didnt go for 90s and mk3 stock tho.
Longer stock more capacity
thanks - perhaps was kph rather than mph?
Awesome! Wish I'd seen them!
@NapierNimbus Its a shame that the GNER Eurostars didn't go as far as newcastle, edinburgh and glasgow
Did anyone spot the flying banana
Fishy Creeper not hard to miss
Great video you cought the Nework rail hst aswell. Did the eurostars oonly go to leeds?

Ian, sweet as, as always, lol. How big is ur vid collections? Keep em coming!
Toady:D
How long were the Eurostar's on the ecml for
They were used on the ECML from about 2000 to 2005 and was returned back to Eurostar but used on domestic services in France.
GNER.
why did GNER have a eurostar?

Thanks for the info! Thats really interesting.
