It's amazing how much changes in four years! I remember seeing the Eurostars at various locations along the southern ECML. I liked them! Now both the Eurostar sets and GNER are gone!!! I have a good mind to march straight to the Transport Minister's office and demand all of the old stuff back on track! (And don't you shake your head at me!!!) Still, you've done good videos!!! 5/5!
@@ShoaibKhan-bz5qm Haha, god I was sooo cringey back then xD The mind of a teen emigrated away from his hobby, who even before that was so sheltered he couldn't go out and do what he wanted.
@@Welwyn22 Haha good to see you’re still around - around back then I probably first remember seeing the Eurostar at Beckenham Junction when it started at Waterloo - only 2 years ago I went on it the first time
The Class 373 sets were actually used to cover for GNER 125/225 sets that were being refurbished at the time. By 2005 these had all been completed, and the 373s all went back to Eurostar.
Wow I love the sound they make as they go by at high speed!! It sounds like a series of superbikes rushing by. Shame they're not around here anymore, but at least they can run as they were intended on high-speed 1 now.
@macaniza7 No - the contract/lease for GNER to use Eurostars finished December 2005. National Express East Coast subsequently took over from GNER. NEEC then had the franchise taken off them by the Rail Regulator with a temporary company formed called East Coast Trains to run the east coast service. ECT still run trains to Leeds and York of course but am not aware of a 'White Rose' service as such like there used to be in the much missed Eurostar days
the wires are raised on approach and over level crossings to give enough safety clearance for high lorries and buses to prevent the high voltages from jumping/arcing on to the vehicles
GNER Eurostar sets finished on the ECML in Dec 05 - a sad day indeed - the sets in question I understand are now operating TGV France. You can of course still see Eurostars on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link
I think the reason for providing these class 373s was to increase capacity on the busy East Coast Main Line between London Kings Cross to Leeds and Edinburgh Waverley via York. It was not successful and customers are still putting up with the class 91 and HST although things will change in the next few years hopefully when the new express trains will run on one of the busiest lines in the United Kingdom.
Sorry my comment is mis-leading - there were stretches where they could run at 125 but there were significant stretches where they were restricted to 110 due to issues with the way the pantographs reacted with the overheads. As I understand the 373 pantos were designed to work with catenary designed to handle extremely fast moving trains and the pantos had a higher pressure contact on the wire
Oddly enough I only started using a video camera one day before you did. (2nd Apr. 2004). Only difference is I didn't use it for trains until a week later
@EMT43055 thanks mate - I have many happy memories of them especially on warm summer evenings when given the right wind/weather conditions could hear them approaching from way off sometimes even before the warning claxon sounded for the dropping of the level crossing barriers - there are some more clips of them on my youtube site
Thanks for the comment. I've put together a dvd of all of my GNER eurostar footage for a mate of mine who used to drive them. If interested in getting a copy then send me a message.
The lease ended Dec 05 - perhaps finances dictated not renewing it or GNER felt did not need them? Also the 373s were restricted to 110mph as against the 91s and HSTs 125mph. On a quiet evening you could hear them approaching way off.
Also they could not run 2 sets on the same set of tracks as they were power hungry, they never ran either to as far in York due to the gauge problems and signalling
They are built as twin power sets for the Channel Tunnel without a DVT unit. If one trainset gets into trouble they can be broken in two midway the other power set can be driven by the second driver out of the Tunnel once all the passengers transfer from the broken down set.

They were fine units, but it was a bit of a waste of a 186mph train being restricted to 110mph stop-start services on the ECML. It wasn't their ideal habitat.

I have to say, the 373 shape is unique! The carriages are so box like. I love it! And their pantos can go very high!

i love the flap that goes in and out the train as you see at petobourgh
the ECML is the RIGHTFUL home of the north of london 373s. not slaving away on SNCF services. bring them back right now!

no problem - another feature of these unique wonderful machines and much missed on the ECML
They are hellfire fan sounds coming off that Eurostar!
The GNER eurostars had a nice livery. Too bad they didn't keep some of them in that livery.

It’s weird seeing this now that all the InterCity 125s have gone, and there are only a few InterCity 225s left. All the rest are the new Azuma trains.

@itfcsam just seen the departure amazing tones! For early footage, thats mint!
373's awesome sound when they power up and leave the station
Theyre AC electric that makes the power up roar

May 2004, GNER "Euro star Yorkshire forward" trains with 4 standard class coaches at the font and rear of the train.
They're louder than even the Japanese Bullets
Great footage!
Believe they are now operating in northern France on TGV workings
Great video! The eurostar looked great in GNER colours. Just a shame that someone decided to put grafitti on that last one.
Thanks very much
@itfcsam thanks for the comments mate - there is another clip of the eurostars on my youtube site called 24 to 31 July 04 GNER Eurostars
Yes they did the lease ending December 2005
Eurostar class 373 "Yorkshire forward" in G.N.E.R livery with 4 front and rear 2nd class coaches

Fantastic filming - 5 stars
Thanks
@Cazkumali no they were filmed on different days in April and May of 2004
amazing video! I've been looking for footage like this! Wish i was taking videos when these were about on ecml! 5* and fav'd
Yes they did.
Thanks mate - I have put some more 373 E* up on my youtube site - see the clip "24 to 31 July 04 GNER Eurostars and more"
very cool
Also they could not run 2 sets on the same set of tracks as they were power hungry, they never ran either to as far in York due to the gauge problems and signalling
seems like a step backwards getting rid of these when they are still running the class 91s
thank you mate
I used to love these and commute on them... but now theyre gone :(
No way!!! How did you create made these from?! See 1:54sec... Jeez!! 😲
Be extremely careful !! GNER and Eurostar are two distinct companies !! A GNER train can NOT be a Eurostar train. It is named Class 373. (BRC373).
Does anyone know why they have the generators or what ever they are at the front carriage I always thought it was an extra engine

What is the speed limit along here?
If you mean the Eurostars then there only allowed up to 110 mph because of the way it's pantographs react with British overhead lines

soundseeker63 not as much of a waste as having them trundle along at 60-80mph between Waterloo and Ashford.
I thought they did 125mph?
@@TheosTrainsWalesOfficial they didn't only 110.

Sorry, I really don't know a thing about trains... What does ecml mean?
East Coast Mainline
You've lost me - not all of the 373 eurostar sets operated by GNER were painted into the GNER livery
something about this makes me sad seeing trains that once traveled on high-speed routes between countries now working up and down the ECML... :(

East Coast MainLine
Its a shame that the eurostars in the UK operating on the ECML have gone to France. Why did they go back to France anyway?
were all these filmed on 3rd april 2004
we should make a petition to get the class 373s back to there rightful home on the ecml.
but they were designed for highspeed lines such as HS1 were they can really stretch there legs
Are GNER White Rose trains still in service?
Not even anymore now
They mostly operated at the eurostar service

Class 91's Are Good But The 373's Were Better
