  • This is a much more detailed account of the ride I did as part of the spring Daniel Boone Back country Byway DBBB ride and it was easier then. This was the first leg of the Easy ride in May 2022. I'll point out the changes that has happened in the 3 months that have past from May to August 2022.
    If you begin at he Slade exit off the Mountain Parkway the turn into Ashland Camp rd. is 12.1 miles from the exit on the right.
    After turning on Ashland Camp rd. the next left is Cave Fork Rd.
    3:15 minutes into the video I slow it down and just over the front right of the hood you can see a Great Blue Heron stand momentarily then take off to the right.
    16:35 is a crossing where we had pics taken in the first video, my wife took a picture sequence I added as well.
    19:45 minutes into this video there is a pretty significant washout that is about 3/4 the way across, it was only about 3ft or so in May.
    20:40 minutes where we had one vehicle take the wrong line in May and required help now the culvert completely exposed and will require a little higher ground clearance to navigate. Someone placed a rock to help with the crossing.
    27 minutes and down to where the road washed out past the hairpin it is now a bit more of a drop due to the right wheel track being more washed out. Depending on your departure angle you may hit, however it is just mud at this point, stay left over the drop then hug the mud wall on the right to go past the rocks in the creek. Climbing out may require pull-up-backup for anyone not driving a short wheelbase such as my TJ. The rest is pretty easy, turn left onto Fixer Rd then follow out to the pavement on New Virginia Rd. to State Rt. 52 a left will get you to 498 and a left here will take you back to Slade Rd Hwy 11 and a left will take you back to Slade. We stopped at the Red River Rockhouse for lunch only open for lunch on Sat & Sundays. #dbbb #redrivergorge

    Really enjoyed the video, not many vids showcasing "easy" routes. Helped me out as I'm trying to find roads to take the wife and kids on since we are a solo jeep

      Glad you liked it. I agree that there are not many depicting easier rides. There a spot or 2 that is a bit more but still on the easy scale. "Bald Rock Fork " has two ways to go. this ride goes to the right. I'll be doing another at another time that goes to the left. Hell Creek is by far the easiest of them all in my opinion. Enjoy!

    My dad myself and my 2 sons did the less rugged half of this route a few weeks ago. Would love to go on the more rugged parts. My truck shouldn’t have a problem. Tacoma with 3 in lift and 33s with a winch.

      This is one of my older videos, trail conditions change with the weather and use.

    Would love to go riding with you. I’ve done half of this route and would love to do bald rock. Gonna come down in October if you’ll be around?

    So im going to assume heavy rain days the creek bed may be unpassable right? I have a stock 22 tacoma offroad and wanna head to dbb for my first time

      Really haven't had much rain lately and has been dry so a little rain is not much of a problem. Cave fork and left onto Bald rock generally speaking are always easy. If you follow Cave Fork on out the worse spot would be the creek crossing but it has had a new bridge built and is narrow. I just did the full Cave Fork this past weekend with my wife and it was at worse a 2-2.5 on my scale of 1-10. However I always suggest you don't go alone your first time. These are 2 of the most common trails for beginners. When you go and/or get ready to go, let me know as I may be in the area and can take you.

    20:03 where is that washout?

    • @naturesglorycabin3792
      @naturesglorycabin3792  Рік тому +1

      This washout has been repaired with a lower bridge. It is already seeing some wear but much easier now.

    Could a stock 4x4 do it?

    • @naturesglorycabin3792
      @naturesglorycabin3792  Рік тому +1

      Yes, *most* stock 4x4s can do this trail. However, I'd never do a trial alone at least the first time. A lot can happen with weather. I've seen stock Tacoma, Jeep even Subaru. I would not try it in a crossover suv, water is below a foot deep and there are rocks you need to work around. I'd rate this a 2-3 on a scale of 10, with a gravel road at a 1.

      You should not have any problems at this time, again if you haven't ran it I would not do it alone the first time. On this video those steps you refer to dug some dirt on a Tacoma. That spot I refer to where we go down the steep bank, at this time has been fixed, but trails can change quickly.

      Cave Fork some call a short section in the middle fixer, this is an older video when I was learning the trails. Cave Fork stay right at the oil Derrick to stay on cave fork then on out Cave Fork ridge it runs into a smooth section of New Virginia out to 498.

      It is Cave Fork Rd. What I meant was some people refer to a asection in the middle as part of Fixer.
