    Thanks Ron. Got my 38900 plus 2 inserts from Amazon for $207 plus $36. Checked all threads. Install took a full day because I'm slow. Also my compressor is wimpy and I waited until it came back to 140 psi several times per cylinder. I also washed with carb cleaner. Clean, Clean and Clean. I used full thread JB Weld and kept it warm for 24 hrs. Torqued to 25 ft-lbs. I can't believe I drilled holes in my engine! Runs great.

    Great information about shops and individuals putting the wrong calvan insert, 38900 for the 2 valve, good idea to specify and verify with screwing the spark plug into the proper insert. Especially if a Dorman pipe threaded kit was used prior to repair, the visual of the 3 valve plug could have the mechanic or machinist picking the wrong insert.

    Still have 10 minutes left in this video but you didn't add the link at wise auto. I did go to the site but if you get a kick back from him I will wait for a referral link so they know who sent me there. I called you today and got the voicemail. After listening to it I then came here to find out which valve engine I have. I'm going to double check it tomorrow but it looks like I probably have the 2 valve. I have a 2001 5.4L expedition Eddie Bauer edition with 4WD. Thanks for all the information and I'll wait to hear back about the link. If not I will just call them there and order one. I was just quoted $225 to fix my number 2 cylinder. I have already had another blow out too but it didn't strip the treads. Instead of paying someone to fix it I would rather do it myself and then i will have the kit when it happens to another one. Thanks again and keep up the great work.

    What types of repair shops do you recommend to install the Calvan kit? Do you think a Ford Dealer ship will do it? I have a 2004 Mustang GT and just recently installed a turbo. The sav-a-thread backed out with the spark plug when I changed it on the second spark plug. I have done all the work and install myself. I am capable of doing it myself, I just don't want to buy the kit. Would it be cheaper to have a shop do it or buy the kit? By the way I live in GA.

    • @dannythebeerman

      Your worry is justified that the save-a-thread can be screwed into the cylinder. If your engine is a ford 2 valve, specify your inquiry "if the shop has a Calvan 38900 insert and kit for the 2 valve" one point Ron makes in this video is he has many calls about shops installing the wrong Calvan insert. Make sure the insert and match it up with the proper spark plug, ask them to go through the procedure, listen to all of their steps, let them finish speaking, then ask for details like JB Weld and loctite 271. If the shop catches an attitude, tell them many reports on the internet that shops installed the wrong insert, and the spark plugs are very different, we need to be sure.

    Please clarify, You say several times "Motorhome" have the 2 valve heads. Are you referencing E350 E450 Class C or the F53 Class A. I have read that the 2006 and newer F53 Class A are a 3 valve head.

    • @SandCarServices
      @SandCarServices  3 роки тому

      Here is what I know. The 3 vale triton that was introduced in 2004 was a VVT (variable valve timing) engine. It was a fuel economy design and was not meant for pulling loads. I have never seen one in any Van or Motorhome or f250 and above ever. If you think you have a 3 valve VVT engine then it will have aluminum valve covers and will have an electrical connector on top of the front side on both valve covers for the solenoid. I personally was hired by a friend of mine to look at a brand new class A at the end of 2019 because he said the brochure said it had a 6.8L 3 valve. Well after having the sales person let me take a peek under the hood I found it was the same old 6.8L 10 cyl. its always been. (and yes the still blow pugs) I just did one with only 16,000 miles and it was built in 2018. I hope this helps.

    So, I'm not sure what you were trying to convey at the end of this video but you sort of contradicted yourself when talking about the 5.4 VVT engines and the 6.8 in a motorhome. You mentioned that your friend Rich who is also your customer (client) was looking at buying a new or almost new 2018 or 2019 motorhome with a 6.8 engine in it but then said that the motorhomes never came with a VVT engine.
    Well, based on what you said in the video, the brochure said that it was a 6.8 liter V-10 3-valve Triton engine. But then you said that if you have a V-10, it's a 2-valve engine. What are you talking about here? Are you not aware that after 2005, they made the 3-valve 6.8 V-10 available in motorhomes? Just because the brochure said it was a 6.8 V-10 DOES NOT MEAN that the brochure is claiming that it is a "VVT engine". It just simply means the brochure is stating that it has the 3-valve Triton 6.8 V-10 engine and nothing more. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE BROCHURE IS CLAIMING THAT IT IS A "VVT" DESIGN. Which, if it does have that engine, it WOULD NOT BE inaccurate information.
    So, why are you mentioning that the VVT engine was put in the motorhome and bringing up the brochure as if the brochure is suggesting this when based on what you stated, it never did suggest this? If the brochure isn't mentioning anything about a "VVT engine", then why make it sound as if the brochure was lying or giving inaccurate information when it wasn't?
    The 3-valve engine was put in motorhomes. It may not have been put in the E350 and E450 vans but motorhomes, yes. Vans are different than motorhomes. I believe the 3-valve was not installed in the vans due to size limitations. At least according to the info I have seen. I haven't personally seen with my own eyes if the 3-valve 6.8 V-10 from Ford was put in motorhomes but I'll just have to accept that the info online is correct at this point.

    The 14x1.25 spark plug holes on the F150 only have very short threads at the bottom despite the plug being a long-thread design. It's supposed to make assembly easier. It's a horrible design.
