This is WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST EXPLANATION about the EGR! All the other videos ive seen only focus on the egr recirculating exhaust gas into the intake, but they never explain why, what for, the way it all operates. This video COVERS IT ALL!
I could honestly say that i was one of those who considered the egr a dumb idea and question what it was for.
THANK YOU FOR THE VERY INFORMATIVE VIDEO!

mechanic here , this guy is correct, also D4D hilux/prado etc pistons crack due to high engine load (full power up a hill towing a caravan example), hot piston ,cold fuel shot at piston.......so if you can lower the combustion temp you improve the chances of pistons lasting. so EGR needs to stay. sadly it will soot up the intake but there are ways to mitigate this.
im sure ill get critics but its true (i wish it wasnt haha)

Very well explained about the egr system 👍 I have a 1KD-FTV 3L turbo diesel and what I did after removing and cleaning the whole intake system was put a blanking plate with a 7mm hole in between the egr cooler and number 1 pistion intake . This still allows the egr to flow at a lower rate sloweing down carbon biuld up with no codes coming up 😊 worked 4 me .

I have been a heavy duty diesel mechanic for over 30 years now. None of the emissions changes they have made have given trucks better fuel economy. Problem is that only 1% of vehicle manufacturers train their workshops on the cleaning of the EGR systems and intake. Second problem is it adds to the maintenance costs for the owner.
A manifold full of carbon will have huge power losses. I dribe a 3.2 Diesel and cleaned my manifold afyer 75000km the amount of carbon in the inlet manifold was scary. To remove and clean everything tool about 4 hours. Labor rates is the most expensive part of services can you immagine how much it will cost a owner to have this work done every 75000km
When the EGR cooler fails and it will it will add huge cost to the repair bill.

First, brilliant explanation of the EGR system, purpose & functionality! Literally the best I’ve seen. I have a 2022 ecodiesel 1500 Ram in the US. A narrow Q re the portion of video explaining potential power loss and efficiency loss from excess fuel being used in combustion due to lower combustion temps that would result from egr delete (esp on diesels), IF that is the only modification done & the OEM ECU parameters & programming remain the same. So If I understand correctly, this would apply ONLY if the ECU remains programmed & tuned to OEM parameters and thus the ECU still ‘thinks’ there is a fully operational EGR system in place & functioning as it did straight from the factory. HOWEVER, almost all EGR deletes on modern diesels also include a tuning or remapping of the ECU to deal with that issue; so with BOTH a) EGR delete and b) ECU tune, that issue is resolved, correct? doing BOTH should actually result in more oxygen for combustion, thus higher combustion temps and thus both some INCREASE in BOTH 1) power output (HP & TQ) AND 2) better efficiency (MPGs), correct?
