Not religious at all, but there is something special about cathedrals and churches during the winter and the Holidays. So peaceful and the music is beautiful.
The reason why this verison is appointed to be the best version of "O Holy Night" is because this version triggers our nostalgia. This scene reminds us of simpler times. Back when Christmas felt like Christmas. Back when everyone got along and we all treated our neighbors like family. This version reminds us of our childhood. Back before bills, debt, and other tedious responsibilities. I also love this version and I also love all of you.
I’ve never read a comment that I relate so much to. You nailed it. I always come back to this song and listen to it every Christmas. I always finish the video in tears reminiscing happy times as a child. There was so much magic and calm during Christmas as a kid, I truly miss it.

He is, in fact-right after this is when and where Kevin learns the real honest truth about "scary"neighbor Mr.Marley-none of the rumors that have spread for so long about he being a murderer are true at all.
This scene makes this movie. The heavenly music and shot of Kevin removing his hat and being in awe of the atmosphere as he walks down slowly looking at all the religious imagery around him gives me chills. That shot at 1:19 is absolutely beautiful with the light hitting that sculpture. I never thought of it but it is almost symbolic of God protecting Kevin as the child is being held in the arms with the light shining through the stained glass. He knew he was only a couple hours away from facing off with Harry and Marv, and I believe during his experience in the church the divine spirit gave him the courage to not only confront Harry and Marv, but also find a new friend, encourage his new friend to be brave, and also for Kevin to forgive himself and his family. It is more poignant the older I get. Beautiful scene with so many different levels going on.
Even when I was younger, this scene always stood out to me as something that touched the heart. Now I'm 34 and it touches the soul. I saw this earlier with my family on Christmas and we all suddenly just started singing the hymn together. And that part where you see the stained-glass of Jesus followed by the statue of Joseph holding Jesus while the light shone on them, and the choir singing while all my family sung, struck me really hard. I never get the chills, but that gave me the chills. Think of it like this, this art and music could just not exist, right? This amazing moment of videography in Hollywood of all places, which is known as not being Godly at all. But it does exist, and that's just further proof of God to me. Merry Christmas 🌲
O Holy Night was the perfect song for this scene. The church was so breathtakingly beautiful. But what gets me is Marley coming over to Kevin and saying Merry Christmas. We were supposed to be afraid of this man but he, while broken over his son not speaking to him, was really just a gentle man. This is my favorite scene in any movie!

People consider this movie a light-hearted comedy, but I always found this scene incredibly moving. I think it mirrors the story in the Bible of the Pharisee Nicodemus coming to talk with Jesus in the dead of night. The old man is the obvious Christ figure of the film (he ends up saving Kevin in the end) and Kevin the uncertain Nicodemus. Additionally, there’s the separate character arch/plot of the old man salting the streets. Perhaps the salt is symbolic of the bitterness he feels at being estranged to his son. This parallels to Christ’s own sadness at losing one of his children because of sin. In the end of the movie we see the old man make up with his son reminiscent of the parable of the prodigal son. There’s so many wonderful Christian themes in this movie, which makes it powerful and timeless. I can’t wait to be able to show it one day to my own children. Merry Christmas!
"O Holy Night" is a beautiful Christmas song and there are so many great versions of it, but there's something about it being sung by a church choir in perfect harmony on a cold and dark Christmas Eve amidst the elegant candlelight and pageantry of a church that makes it all the more poignant and moving. It's even more affecting when you consider the context of the scene; a kid separated from his family on the holiday most meant for families. And my goodness, the sense of nostalgia this scene stirs up in me is palpable! I'll always adore it for reminding me of my wonderful childhood during Christmas time. ❤🎄
this song always brings hot tears down my face. my favorite Christmas song. so emotional. and nothing makes it more spiritual than sung by a choir of beautiful voices.

Having grown up in Germany I was not at all familiar with this Christmas Carol and it took me 15 years and the arrival of the internet age to find out what it was called and who wrote it. My favourite Christmas carol and it is largely due to this movie. The performance used here is just wonderful on so many levels. The other thing I never knew about the movie till decades later was that two other Christmas carols used in the movie were actually written speciafcially for it by John Williams, yet they sound like they could are carols handed down generations. Brilliant!

After moving to DFW Texas from a very small farm community in deep southern Illinois, I lost my way, and became far disconnected from church and God. When I returned 30 years later to the same church, I attended as a child the familiar smells and sites were so overwhelming, I swear I could literally feel the presence of God No, he didn’t speak to me, no, I didn’t hear a voice but in my heart. It felt like someone was saying, welcome home, we are so pleased to have you near us again, the emotions were indescribably overwhelming. This video made me feel similar to my first time walking in a loving church after 30 years. Sin, drugs and the devil had lost all power here ,you only felt God and a loving presence I can’t explain that made you feel loved and welcomed with no explanations why I abandoned Him, while in His house you were simply with your Father again and He was glad to have you home. WOW
Beautiful lyrics . . . "O Holy night! The stars are brightly shining It is the night of our dear Savior's birth Long lay the world in sin and error pining 'Til He appears and the soul felt its worth A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn Fall on your knees; O hear the Angel voices! O night divine, O night when Christ was born O night, O Holy night, O night divine! [Verse 2] Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming Here come the Wise Men from Orient land The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger In all our trials born to be our friend He knows our need, to our weakness is no stranger Behold your King; before Him lowly bend Behold your King; before Him lowly bend [Verse 3] Truly He taught us to love one another; His law is love and His Gospel is Peace Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother And in His name, all oppression shall cease Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we Let all within us Praise His Holy name Christ is the Lord; O praise His name forever! His power and glory evermore proclaim His power and glory evermore proclaim
Same here as well. Like some other user, I also cannot stop replaying this brief scene. Too bad the part right after, Marley asking to join Kevin, Kevin all like,”I guess so,” Marley sits down and Old Man Marley points out his granddaughter in the choir to Kevin and she beams at the sight of Gramps there in church.

This scene is beautiful. I just like the thought of walking into a church at Christmas night, the wind is cold, and it’s just silent except from the voices of the choir. There’s not much people there, only you, and a couple of folks.
What I like about this scene from Home Alone is that some time is given to O Holy Night, one of the most beautiful Christmas carols, by the movie's makers, And to the church setting overall. But there is a tinge of sadness that this particular scene conveys to its audience. Kevin is not just home alone, he's in church alone. Well, almost. But he's without his family. Perhaps the glory is that something like O Holy Night can draw people closer to God yet. Even when caught while watching a mere Christmas movie.
How i wish i could go back to this time that watching a movie at home or at theater is very special especially with family. Before the social media, every occasion esp christmas is extra special. I remember how happy i am everytime i am receiving a greeting card on this occasion.
Tomorrow is Christmas Eve!🎅 With the “Great Conjunction” that recently happened this year, seeing the “Christmas Star” was extra special this Christmas season!! This Christmas season is definitely special this year!!😊❤️🎅🎄
I grew up on this movie, I watch it every single year at Christmas. And as much as I’ve always loved it for the comedy, as I’ve gotten older it’s scenes like this one that I appreciate the most. It reminds me of the peaceful bliss that Christmas brings and the lesson to be good to your fellow neighbor. As shitty as times are, Christmas has always brought me peace. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year, and feelings of nostalgia I experience from watching this movie make it even better. This film truly has a special place in my heart.
@@Lee-zw5km in this context, it is definitely rhetorical. Do you think I'm really wondering why this scene is beautiful? Obviously not, it's sad we're even having this conversation.
Looking back on this film, I recognize how much of a masterpiece it was, and how I was lucky enough to grow up watching movies like this with family during Christmas. It brings back such beautiful memories of simpler times. The symbolism here is so beautiful. The forsaken child, still holding the flame of innocence, but slowly withering away... is beckoned to the light , the shelter from the cold darkness of loneliness. He enters to the voice of cherubs, who welcome him with open arms. The children here symbolize the protected innocence vs the innocence that Kevin had to hold on to by himself. It highlights the need for an overarching love in our lives. We often feel devoid of meaning when we feel alone, but here, the movie is telling us that even in our darkest, loneliest spots, all it takes is one kind soul to guide us back. The man who played old man Marley, Roberts Blossom, was an educated, hardworking, multifaceted man, who also served in World War 2. Please keep his name alive, even for a moment, when you read this. His memory should be maintained for a long time to come, simply for the peace and joy he brought to millions of families.
I’m 28 and I would pay anything to go back to the 90’s those were the good times, you actually spent time with family, kids nowadays will not get to have that feeling… 😢

Brilliant!
Does it get more Christmas than this.. Beautiful song powerful scene for a comedy classic

Merry Christmas!!! 2023, from Panamá 🇵🇦
This song can change anybody’s feeling. Even a mad person will just listen and stop.
No, I won't.
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
'Til He appears and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn
Fall on your knees; O hear the Angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born
O night, O Holy night, O night divine!
[Verse 2]
Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming
Here come the Wise Men from Orient land
The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend
He knows our need, to our weakness is no stranger
Behold your King; before Him lowly bend
Behold your King; before Him lowly bend
[Verse 3]
Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His Gospel is Peace
Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother
And in His name, all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we
Let all within us Praise His Holy name
Christ is the Lord; O praise His name forever!
His power and glory evermore proclaim
His power and glory evermore proclaim
This scene made me fall in love with the song O Holy Night
Same here as well. Like some other user, I also cannot stop replaying this brief scene. Too bad the part right after, Marley asking to join Kevin, Kevin all like,”I guess so,” Marley sits down and Old Man Marley points out his granddaughter in the choir to Kevin and she beams at the sight of Gramps there in church.
I meant to say that it’s too bad that all that I just mentioned that follows right after was cut off from this.
Facts. I was looking for other versions of this but it doesn't capture the same feeling I have for this one.
I did to me too.
This will always be my favorite Home Alone scene 🥹
Beautiful. God will always be there. Doesn’t leave your side even though hope is gone
I am from Ukraine 🇺🇦, and Christmas in my family can't exist without this !
Слава Украине! My heart is with Ukraine. Love from Bulgaria.
Greetings and merry Christmas from Matt in the United States
Same for me from New Zealand 😃
I've always been a religious person. This song's lyrics always break my heart in a beautiful way....."..'til He appeared and the soul felt its worth......fall on your knees oh hear the angels' voices....." It's all very very beautiful.
Born to be our friend. Christ is risen. 🙏🏼
Nostalgia at its best. Time flys when you’re growing up.
So true...and sad
I miss these kind of movies.
They don’t make these Christmas movies like they used to.
I am glad I grew up in the 90s era to experience this film and childhood.
❤️🎄
This song is so beautiful and it gives me goosebumps, I feel like crying. Easily the best version of the song. Merry Christmas!🎄🎁
😥
kings choir cambridge as well
Holidays just aren’t the same, festive, joyous like they use to be growing up
I agree, commercialisation has taken over too much.
This Movie will Never lose its magic even at 38 I still feel like an 8 year old seeing it for the first time
Home alone is a classic to watch really appreciate you guys thanks for the memories and a good laugh best wishes to everyone in the movie you guys rock ! Joe
This movie will never get old. Watching it now feels so fresh and all
I love home alone Even as an adult I can't stop watching it. I rewatch it every Christmas. The movie reminds me of my childhood days
One needs a good sub-woofer to hear/feel those low organ notes. So worth it when you do.
Mr. Extreme was watching with my xbox headset. Not the same from my phone speaker.
Wearing a good pair of headphones makes such a difference
I know. I can hear the bass
I play organ and the bass pedals rule.
@@jamesnyugien8767 You need to feel the bass too...;) lol
This is one of the most beautiful scenes in the cinema’s history
Every person returning to watch this wonderful scene in 2021 Merry Christmas in these dark times! Stay safe
Always wanted to spend a Christmas Eve in a church. Closest I’ve got to this feeling was when I went to the library and a choir was singing for the Rotary Club. The acoustics emulating from the community room into the lobby sounded very much like this. It was so beautiful and peaceful.
I love to go to the catholic church it's one place you can feel total peace with yourself and with the lord jesus christ to talk with him
The only true place you find peace without all the noise like in a protestant Church
tim kalar This is not a Catholic church. The exterior is Trinity United Methodist Church and the interior is Grace Episcopal church in Oak Park Illinois.
@Fu lovin it
Southern Catholic Protestant Church has the best doctrine from God
@@jordanBFClad heretic. You can not mix Protestant with Catholic. You are either Roman Catholic or a Protestant.
I come back to this video very often. Such an esoteric feeling I get. Brings me back to simpler times
I loved the Church Scene as Child, i had Goosebumps. Today iam 34 and i still love the Scene today :) PS: For me the best Version of Holy Night from the Movie
2 of the best and favorite movies ever to the actors and actresses who passed away my thoughts are with your family you may be gone but not forgotten at Christmas time love and appreciate you guys thanks you guys rock way to go appreciate you guys and the memories and a good laugh thanks great job people way to go stay safe and warm out there ❤❤😂 !! Gets better and better the older I get, the most gorgeous classic movie holy I’m crying ❤️❤️💔💔
I much agree with you :)
Tomorrow is Christmas Eve!🎅
With the “Great Conjunction” that recently happened this year, seeing the “Christmas Star” was extra special this Christmas season!!
This Christmas season is definitely special this year!!😊❤️🎅🎄
I have tears down my face this is beautiful 😊
🥲
This movie is still so popular in Japan
I love him

I am not the most religious person but whenever I have gone inside a place of worship I have felt great peace.
Been repeating this part since I was little... Love this song
Always makes me cry
me to always miss jesus when i see this
@@katiesharma4829 I am Jesus
The magic of Christmas right here, even though it's a sweltering August day and I'm stuck indoors with the desk fan on full...
I love this rendition of this song, it’s my favorite.
The Nativity lighting up at night makes this scene absolutely beautiful !!!🌌🌠🌟❤️🎄
This moment was very beautiful and holy. Amen 🙏🏻
I love classical music, and this is the best scene for me. Makes me cry.
😢
This scene hits me more n more every time I watch it 😢❤
My favorite song. My favorite scene. What a wonderful feeling. 👏👏👏👏👏
I don't know why, but this is really so beautiful.
@Josh Robinson Have you ever heard of a rhetorical question lol.
@@contestant2964 you ask yes or no lol .
@@Lee-zw5km in this context, it is definitely rhetorical. Do you think I'm really wondering why this scene is beautiful? Obviously not, it's sad we're even having this conversation.
@@contestant2964 chillax dude.
I almost cried to this scene. Amazing!
I was 7 when this movie came out. I'm 41 now and I still love watching it every Christmas season.
It’s scenes like this that make these old movies works of art.
Epic voices and church organ
This actually sends shivers down my spine it's so beautiful and so atmospheric!
BEATIFUL GREAT AMAZING SCENE FILM KEVIN HOME ALONE
The Church scene from home alone. Goosebumps every christmas.
This make me cry on this music!😢😢😭😭😭😭😭😭. I miss this old Days from begin the 90s.
Merry Christmas everyone 🎄❤
I’m 28 and I would pay anything to go back to the 90’s those were the good times, you actually spent time with family, kids nowadays will not get to have that feeling… 😢
