Dave, what a pleasure it was to meet you today at Musclepalooza. The fact that I had just seen one of your videos a few days ago and then actually met you while you were talking to Tom Frost about his Green Mist '70 SS396 was astounding. That car was a magnet to us Code 45 Green Mist Chevelle owners. I love the fact that you come east twice a year from CA to take care of your elderly Mom's house. The world needs more sons like you! It's cool that we both have basically the same exact Chevelles. Can't wait to watch the rest of your videos!
Finally made it back to Sunnyvale, Ca. What are the chances that three people meet at a car show owing the same color Chevelle? If we did not start talking and introducing ourselves, you would never know you were talking to the person making videos. Chances, in the billions. I really enjoyed talking to you and your wife. Like my Irish neighbor always says when we have a beer: " Good Health"
You don't need to take spider gears out.. once you remove the axle retaining pin just push your axles in and the c clips will just fall out. Take the axle out and your good to go.
Er..so i got this 70 lesabre. Was investigating metal on metal noise in the back. Figured it had something to do with my brakes.. my bearing seal had broke and my bearing was crushed. I was able to take out my axle without removing any clips with the bearing stuck on the shaft. Short of replacing the bearing..do i have major problems??
They should be the same rear end. Didn't gear oil leak on the brakes? What about the other side, can you take out the axle with out removing the c-clips? Maybe the c-clip fell out because the bearing was destroyed? Video 4:25 I would remove the cover and see what is going on, maybe the clip is on the bottom of the rear end housing?
You only need to set back lash if you loosen or remove the pinion gear That is the gear attached to the drive shaft (propeller shaft). David only dissembled the gears in the rotating cage. No adjustments required.
I bought that in 1980 for $1,500 and I use it all the time. I am not saving it for someone else. Yes, it gets scratched some times but I just buff it out and it is ready to go. Interesting you identified it as a Submariner. Not many people know that. Good eye.
I did not replace them but Go to Eric the Car guy and he uses a axle bearing pulled tool that he borrowed from the local auto parts store. ua-cam.com/video/F439MFi6qIk/v-deo.html Hope it helps
Thank you for the info I quickly realized I had them near me and I already replaced them also thanks to the video it made my life alot easier thank you so much and for what you do

Thank you again for taking the time to make this video. I feel 💯 % confident that I can do the job on my 1990 Silverado C1500.
The spider gears are sticks but be patient.
Don't take the cover off like I did.
One of the best videos I've seen in a while, good job there.
I hate the smell of rear end oil.
Well done video. Needed little refresher and this fit the bill. Dig the Butternut.
Don't understand "Dig the Butternut"

Just don't take the cover off like I did.
Outstanding work! Simple and to the point. Thank you, good sir. I actually feel very confident about replacing a bent axle in my car.
You can do this. The hardest part is the spider gears.
I hate the smell of rear end gear oil.
Thank you for a great video
Don't take the cover off like I did it.
Same for an Elco of this era? Great video

@@davidlis6709 now I am more scared of the smell of gear oil then messing something up on my car now😂
Great video! Saved my life. Do you always wear a Rolex when go fixing Chevelle differentials?
Yes. I wear it all the time except in tight locations.
Would you need to check the back lach with a dial indicator. I enjoy your work.Richard

Good video, thanks for sharing, cheers
Just don't take the cover off like I did, leave one bolt.
Great video...... only a pro would rock a Submariner while pulling axles. Well done.

Great video
I am glad it helped.
If I remove the spider gears, do I need to worry about any timing issues on reinstalling?
No
What about the bearings? How would you get those out?
I did not replace them but
Go to Eric the Car guy and he uses a axle bearing pulled tool that he borrowed from the local auto parts store.

@@davidlis6709 Thank you!
What type of axle seals go on a 12 bolt rear end?
Same type maybe a different part. Your local auto parts store will have them. Nothing special.
Thank you for the info I quickly realized I had them near me and I already replaced them also thanks to the video it made my life alot easier thank you so much and for what you do
@@jarrodronnberg9194 You are welcome. Always easier after watching someone do it.
Hear the C-130 flying overhead.
You are right. Going to Moffett Field, MtView. Last week Air Force One flew in.

Should of replaced the bearing while you did all that

When men were men!Bet he didnt grow up looking at his phone and FB all day.He was out learning and using his hands.LOL
You are right. That FB is such a time sucker. Wonder why you can not gets the younger people to do anything? My wife is addicted to her phone.
DUDE YOU LIVE NEAR AN AIRPORT, TOO MUCH NOISE...LOL
If is not the airplanes, it is the crows, or other peoples dogs barking.
Just use the end of the axle as a pry bar to remove the seal.
Good tip.
