I was thinking back to those teams we had in the 97-2003 years. I can remember so many players names and games they played watching them as I was in middle school growing up. We had a top 5 defense 6 years straight, we had an offense that would AVERAGE 45 -48 points a game. I've watched kstate religiously every year since, but never felt like we reached the level of talent those teams had. I decided to look it up today, that 1998 roster had about 13 players end up in the NFL, even if it was only briefly, not everyone went in 98, some were SO or JRs that year, but man, that's some crazy level of talent. That said I still love watching this team and am excited to see how the rest of the season unfolds.
Yeah.. WTF kinda play calling was that when they had the chance to put it away?? And it was offensive interference.. the receiver never tried to continue his route, it was like a moving screen in basketball, the dude even had his arms up like a screen and just continued to move the defender backwards.. PERIOD!!!
Major major concerns about the offense playbook and game preparation... 1) Playcalls and overall scheme is sooo vanilla, it looks like a HS playbook; No miss-directs, eye-candy, play-actions, rollouts. The opponents defense was able to "pin there ears back" all game with no fear. 2) AJ is missing his targets on over the top throws consistantly. And he's still throwing sidearm. 3) Oline pass blocking didnt look good, very leaky. * good news the Defensive was consistent enough to win the game.
Much more aggressive play calling is needed the way it was in the Colleen Klein era. Let Avery do his thing. A super good dual threat. Remember that game last year where Avery rushed for five touchdowns against Texas Tech? A super- beautiful thing that I'll never forget. Just my two cents with the advantage of hind-sight: imagine if Will Howard had been cut after that wonderful Texas Tech game and Avery had become number one. We will never know how different that season could have turned out.
Az wideout is top receiver in the country! QB Fifita is pretty tuff too! Kicker is money from 50+ too! Should be good game. If K-States secondary plays like last week, they will get lit up by AZ.
I have to disagree that pick plays like that go uncalled all the time. If it was a true run route, I would agree, but the receiver was actually blocking the DB on that play. A similar play happened earlier in the KU/Illinois game and they called that too.
Glad it happened early in the season to maybe wake up some folks and the fans need to quit with the hype too. Maybe one person calling the plays and the team needs to be ready, two crappy first halves. Time to wake up the team...they need to concentrate. They're going to have to get their act together and let Avery do his thing.
I think they called the penalty because he didn't try and sell a route. The officials do call it when it's that obvious. Just like a db not turning their head in coverage, they will throw the flag and not give the benefit of the doubt.
Connor Riley is in way over his head. No imagination, worst play-calling since Messingham. Needs to get his on-the-job-training somewhere else. Matt Wells is 10 times the offensive play caller. What the hell are we doing?
3rd and forever, we rush 3, drop 8 and the dude was WIDE OPEN for 40yds🧐. The offensive play calling seems weaker with co-coordinators. The Cats really don’t have a lot to celebrate about. My nephew’s 8th grade offense is more intricate. Take the bubble wrap off of Avery and let the kid play.
I don't think Wells is involved in play calling, only game planning. Supposedly he can give his two cents at the time, but how is that supposed to work?
Anyone feel like this is Courtney Messingham offense version 2? If so, we took a big step back in OC. Still not thrilled with receiver play/consistency. That's coaching - time for serious scrutiny on Middleton.
That last KState offensive drive was a head scratcher.. run, run, run, punt… felt like they weren’t even trying for a first down..
Thanks guys. I needed Brien’s comments.
I'm always here for you.
Brien Hanley is my spirit animal.

Well said! Fair and balanced assessment. Go Cats! 🏆🏈
Let us hope the play calling improves for next week.
I would love to see some speed option with Avery and Dylan, and some triple option with DJ. Get all the best guys on the field.

ASU is in the big 12, hello? Iowa St. Kicked their ass!
A game like this make it look like Will Howard made out like a bandit.
Last time I checked, we lost games like this when he was yhe QB

I almost felt guilty that we won that game. I truly believe tulane should’ve gotten the W.

Better play better or were going to have a long season. No excuses, get with the program.
T Mac will light you up!!!
FREE AVERY!!!
Our bad front 3 or 4 d-line didnt get pressure all game. We didnt get pressure unless we blitzed and at times we still couldnt get pressure
The offense feels a bit pedestrian right now.. I’m not liking the play calling. Secondary got shredded.

I think one person is calling the plays .... the wrong one.

Put your athletes on the field!
What I would give to have Collin Klein calling the plays again.
NO JUST NO! Shit heard same or more complaints last year & deeper in season too.
You sure about that?!? You sure about that?!?
Um….no.
A&M had 13 points against Notre Dame

Deep breaths everyone... 2-0
Playing man against TMac you will get toasted!

lol I get so tired of you negative kstate fans… you guys are exhausting! Seriously though
It's not negative if they are being about what is going on.
