    If you're reading this, I wanted to say THANK YOU. It's been so much fun making videos for you over the past decade. Don't worry, this is not a "i'm going away" post. The opposite, actually! I'm doubling down. The topic of 'burnout' comes up quite a bit with creators, and rightfully so, as youtube can be a high-stakes gig that demands all your creative output. But I'm waking up feeling alive rn! I think we're finally hitting our stride here and I have big plans for future videos for you. That's really it - just wanted to drop you a note and personally thank you for being along on the journey. Ready to change your life? I LOVE this. I am one who struggles retaining what i read which has made reading more of a chore for me and when you're not good at something, you tend not to want to do that thing. I think these are great principals to follow. I'm looking forward to applying these, and hopefully enjoy reading again. Thanks for the tips!!

    I thought I was sick for speed reading through 4 bulky books in a month until i saw those books again in my living room only to realise
    I forgot every single thing about them!
    I prefer to read a couple chapters at a time, and then implement them immediately. Rinse and repeat
    Does wonders

      @alphonsusho8962 2 роки тому +2

      This is why you might hear people say "self-improvement books are useless"... that is, if you don't actually implement what they are telling you to do. A lot of people read self-improvement books and think that they can memorize the info and all of a sudden you'll, change. An example is Atomic Habits. Part of building a new habit and keeping it, is actually writing it down. Write out your schedule and all the habits you do. Then write out the new habits you want as well as the implementation in detail such as what habit and when will you do it. A lot of people will probably skip these steps of writing stuff out, and thus they won't actually fix their not sticking to a new habit/goal.

    I can attend to this. I ready 70 books on my goodreads and still felt similar when speaking/listening to others. I started combining audible and reading... I've found myself speaking and even leading in conversations confidently. I highly recommend doing a mind map for each book. This is where you link 5 ideas to the main topic, then sub ideas to those. Not only is it fun, but it's a creative process and you can create multiple mind maps. One map could be mere chronology while another can be linking ideas with a certain theme. The highest form of thinking is not just knowing the facts, but linking them together via these large themes and ideas. That's what creates genius.

    Love books and audiobooks because I'm sorcerer. Underline sentences that you connect with. Then the book becomes a easy reference. Bob Proctor said when reading, your mind will trail off. Same with hearing someone/something. You hear them but you're not listening. The power of FOCUS will set you free 📚

    I totally agree with the photographic memory thing. I listen to a lot of audiobooks while driving. I’ve always noticed a weird connection between a fact I’ve learned from a book and a physical location where I was on my drive while listening to that fact.

    My retention approach is just reading volume. I may hear a nonfiction fact from one author and remember it 20%, but if that fact is important, more and more books will mention it again, and in different ways later. I get different shades of context on the fact, and have a much better understanding of it.

    Excellent advice- write notes, tear it up, underline, keep a notebook on each chapter. I love reading but one thing I had to adjust is not to read multiple books at one time, especially if the subject matter is heavy and requires your full attention. So I have a workable method where I will read a heavy hitter at a time but have a"fun" book at that same time. In this category I will read about my favorite Musicians or different albums. Those books I will read in a day or 2 while my main book I can take more time to really meditate on the subjects and give myself plenty of time to really understand the concepts involve. The thirst for knowledge and wisdom is vast but it's important to read with purpose and not skim over something you really don't fully retain.

    When I was a doctoral student I used to read my assignments when I was at the gym. I could remember the text better when I was moving and reading. I took a class on oral communication and the was one of the points that course made about oral cultures. They would sing and/or dance when they told stories to make them more memorable by people hearing the stories for the first time. When I taught English conversation to European kids and I would try to explain a meaning of a word they would start singing an English language song with that word in it that they heard and it clicked for them.

    I currently use the speed play hack and will add the Book journal page of notes per book. Thank you, Please, if possible, the one hack I share with others when you buy a book, Sign it and date it. This commits you, and each time revisited, sign and date so when it's gifted, others will designate
    its value of being a strong reference for you.

    I respect the turtle neck... good stuff, liked the pyramid probably the best. Screenshoted that puppy for future use. I've heard that from Tony Robbins with passive vs active listening, pretty interesting.

    Love the puzzles idea while listening to audiobooks! I framed some of my favorite puzzles because they took so long and are really beautiful. It's a nice way to commemorate the process😊

      It's a good idea-also listening to music espesially jazz works well and get some really good headphones. It will enhance the process but choice wisely because the wrong music could distract you where the right ones will make it flow

    Everything here except "roughing up the book". I am THAT person who keeps them "Worst". But I love taking notes in my journal. I AM a reader and have so many books, many that I've read and many I haven't read yet, but I just love ALL books so much, in ALL formats. Book nerd here.

    There are studies that discuss the science behind the processing your brain does when writing notes and how it helps to retain information at a much higher rate than typing onto a screen. It’s always been the way I retain information. It's real. Maybe you should read about it 😊
