I understand exactly what you mean, but please remember that all of us, and especially men under the patriarchy, are repeatedly told that our worth is in what we produce, how much we make, and what we achieve. I admire the level of awareness, vulnerability, honesty, rawness, and humility of this podcast. I am grateful to witness how both of you faced your shadows and create room for these constructive conversations. Thank you!

I'm only 23 minutes into this & I just have to say this warms my heart. Hearing you both speak about society based expectations on men & the impact it has & how asking for help is not what men have been lead to believe is just beautiful! I wish these conversations were so openly discussed back in 2010 when my older brother's mental health wasn't good. If men’s mental health was spoken about more back then, he might be here today. Sadly depression took him from us but I'm so happy to see the shift in culture & the push to change societal expectations! It may save lives!❤
Russ interviews in Jay’s podcast are always so eye opening. I love how self aware and open he is about every topic he touches on. God bless them both, they’re amazing!
This is going to change everything, Russ is THE one to help wake everyone up, it's the music, that's how we reach them! The fact that Jay Shetty was the one to interview him is so fitting. Jay is the reason I am where I am today. 🥰
Only half way through and had to pause and give a thumbs up & comment. Conversations like this are needed in today’s generational society. Salute to Russ for understanding his massive influence and using his life testimony to help guide his supporters from all age ranges and walks of life.
So grateful for Russ and his willingness to show transparency into a world of things that men feel they aren’t ever able to discuss openly. Love his music and what he stands for as well. Thanks for doing this interview. 💖
A coworker introduced me to Russ's music earlier this year which just happened to be when Santiago came out. The first song I heard was Tunnel Vision. What's funny is I just started my own personal journey to discover myself a couple months before. So that's resonated with me and I love you boy was the second song. I have those songs on my playlist. Haven't listened to the whole album yet but after watching this I am listening to it from start to finish and getting the alchemists book. I am 47 and feel like I'm a teenager rediscovering new music. I appreciate Russ and you Jay for this podcast. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for making it ok to go to therapy, being vulnerable and show that you’re better when you face it and work on the issues. This interview brought me to tears as a mom to an adult son. Men are human too with emotions, hurt, trying to figure out life , etc. . Extra: the pressure society puts on them.. not taking away the responsibility and accountability we all should have of being a descent good person along with accomplishing you goals of “success”

Appreciate your self awareness and vulnerability @russ I'm glad your able to start doing the healing you need. I reached some success in the music industry and I felt exactly the same, I wasn't as famous as you. But had multiple songs over 10 million views. And it never was enough, I thought maybe if I was famous as j Cole or drake then I would be happy. We lose so many young artists to addiction to exactly what russ is talking about.
Man, what a gem Russ is. I think people mislabel 'tough' as not having pain, as some do 'brave' to not having fear. I've always heard that bravery isn't being fearless, it's having fear and overcoming it anyway. So by this comparison, I think being tough isn't being invincible. It's having been through shit that tears you down, beats you up, and still emerging stronger. I'm not a Rocky fan, but it's about how you can get hit and keep moving forward.
I love the idea that going into the studio is an act of celebration instead of putting so much pressure on our art and sapping all the joy out of it. Thank you, Russ! I'm taking that gem and applying it to my life and music career ASAP.
The interview with Russ was really good and I think more people should watch it. Also it was extremely educational. Although the interview was mostly about Russ struggles with toxic masculinity as a white male rapper, I can relate to the part where he talks about getting validation from others. Which I think are many people in today's society are struggling with on a day to day basis. And as black female I believe that we all can agree that on the part where he stays buying his mom a house and everything else mentions relating to his music career success, is nice but it's not going to never fill that empty whole he was feeling on the inside which in the long term affected his mental health. So overall I'm glad he started to go to therapy and working on improving his mental health for the better of his future. Because at the end of the day you can only validate yourself and accept yourself who you are and what you want to be in life.

To me the Big Sean Interviewand the Russ Interview following shortly after that last year were some of the best interviews I've heard period. They both are legends and seeing Russ coming fresh after so many years (after his interviews I listened to all his Albums and found out he has 521 songs actually :) just what a beautiful story and role model for this young generation. He is the Guru for the upcoming selfmade artists, I wish he'd do a Masterclass or walkthrough of him mixing, that part kind of he never really talked about (favorite plugins, mixing routines, approach to mixing). But we'll see, maybe he'll be at Pensados Place one Day :)
Crazy to see Russ's growth. You hit the nail on the head Jay, usually people hit this point at a low point in their careers, but the fact Russ is experiencing this transformation at such a height of his career is truly rare. Look forward to seeing his journey, truly inspiring for my own journey.
Self-awareness will definitely put a stop to toxic masculinity from the roots, even other forms of toxicity. When people are more conscious of their thoughts and actions, only then can they reflect on them.
I love Russ. My son introduced me to his music and I as a grown woman on a spiritual journey connect alot with some of his lyrics. His lyrics are positive and inspirational (mostly 😊) for people and young men that is how/why I can support my son listening to him. My son and I are super close and I took him to see Russ in concert this year. We are with you Russ thank you for sharing yourself and your gifts with the world. And your mental health journey you are a positive person for young men..
This is so epic. I love Russ’ music. It’s great to hear y’all speak from the heart. There are plenty of women out here that love men whom are intentionally emotionally connected with themselves.
Russ is beginning to be my favorite artist for sure. His self awareness and his ability to articulate his thoughts is a service to humanity. As men, I do believe we’ve been HEAVILY influenced to be this stonewalled person no matter what comes their way. But feeling negative feelings isn’t weakness, it’s an opportunity to strengthen and refine ourselves. Through our weakness comes strength. We’re not meant to do this alone. Find help through community. I wish you all the best and more. PS: THANK YOU JAY FOR YOUR PODCAST, YOUR PURPOSE, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY YOU. 🙏🏽🙏🏽
PLEASE LORDTTTT LET THIS GO VIRAL FOR ALL THE MEN (and women) WHO NEED TO HEAL. SO MORE MEN CAN TUNE INTO THEIR HEARTS AND MINDS AND RISE UP FOR DEEPER CONNECTION TO SELF AND LOVED ONES. LET THIS BE SEEN BY THE WORLD JUST AS MUCH AS HIS MUSIC IS STREAMED. This is holy, pure and vulnerable. Ashe Russ & Jay. We thank you for this.
I am so pleased to see a man talk so openly and honest about what is going on in his inside. We all need this more ! I hope this will inspire more man outhere because we love you guys :)
I have to tell you Russ is the gift that keeps on giving. 😊 I just finished his first book and I cannot stop being empowered from his music and words. If I could ever love a man lol It would be this man
I had someone introduce me to Russ today. Now, I know I’ve heard his music before, but when I was sent a link to “When I’m With You” it spoke into and found me in the depths of my older generation’s soul. I’m a Gen X’er and Russ is a Millennial who is definitely a Gen X throw back. And, I say this with the highest of musical genius and who he is as a person I’m learning from this awesome interview. Kudos to Jay Shetty for giving us such a personal account of Russ allowing us to learn who he is!! Getting back to Russ being a throw-back with his music. Why do I say this? He has the unique innate ability to write, create, and produce sounds that have an 80s-90s groove, with the more modern sound and flair of instrumental beats. What I love is he sings and raps showing us he has a voice, he’s in perfect pitch and as a singer myself I appreciate his talent as a complete artist in R&B. He reminds me of Babyface back in the day who we were in love with with a touch of Usher, yet he’s much more than them to me. When you add to the fact his song writing is soul writing - Raw pieces of truth, with sweetness smoothing the edges, it’s sheer magic. Oooh, gives me goosebumps. Russ’ accounts of feelings he’s kept in as he states in this interview, now sharing his vulnerability with the world, comes off as effortless. When an artist can make you believe you can do what he’s doing, that’s the power and glory of true artistic genius. I’m now musically obsessed with this man. Aww 🥰 this older woman has much fan love and I wouldn’t be surprised if more women in their 40s, 50s and beyond love this man as an artist and a person. Maybe that’s it: Older women appreciate a younger man who is not afraid to show us his emotions. Let me say, that’s a turn on, appreciation, and great respectability for a man by us. I’m a very emotive, poetic person and love to write novels for messages, but I felt a voice from a woman of an older generation could show just how much we understand an artist and man like Russ. Much love 💓💖✨
I used to be “Miss Fix it”. I tried fixing everyone problems. I realized the reason I was doing that is because I was afraid of fixing my own. So fixing others felt good for a short minute.
This is the best interview hands down. Thank you for this. Thank you for being vulnerable and thank you for choosing to love yourself and validating what we all feel. Let’s all get better together, do the inner work.
I read a excellent book “The Compound Effect” and it really touches down on the “Why does success not bring happiness” Marker And in that book it has a passage that reads: "I have seen business moguls achieve their ultimate goals, but still live in frustration, worry, and fear. What's preventing these successful people from being happy? The answer is they have focused only on achievement and not fulfillment. Extraordinary accomplishment does not guarantee extraordinary joy, happiness, love, and a sense of meaning. These two skill sets feed off each other, and makes me believe that success without fulfillment is failure." Highly reccomend that book to anyone looking to fill that empty feeling Russ explains & looking to better your life 😇
Not intentionally chose to listen to this episode but turned out so glad I listened to this talk. I've never heard of Russ before but now I have to try listening to his crafts.
I remember telling my partner that it is okay to break down and I am here to comfort you. We are all human and have emotions. I love Russ so much and broke all stereotypes. I want my man strong and still soft. Much Love from South Africa.
Santiago is a beautiful album that hit me in such a way that brought me to two paths. Thank you for opening up and showing your truth through your music and helping others with theirs. This was a great episode.
I mean for real there is no rapper alive like Russ that openly talks about all these therapeutic stuff and produce heavy bars at the same time it's lit we love u mate
To see a man open up and be emotional is a great sign of trust in your partner, many men go thru so much but never say anything. For them to get things off their chest and cry. Gives them some relief and ease. I tried to help my ex boyfriend to open up, even look up therapy places for him. But sadly we didn’t make it to that point
What a powerful podcast. It is so magical and authentically beautiful seeing two men open their hearts and be vulnerable in world that says that men can’t. Blessings 🤍
I found about Russ back in 2015 first song was gypsy. Each line he rap/sang is so pure and authentic. I myself felt the song as one. So relatable. I hope y’all listen to Russ to listen not too karaoke his songs 😭. Each song of his teaches you something ‼️💯‼️
I love you, russel. I love the idea to talk with you. Mind blowing I'm 23 just quit all negative habits. Smoking drinking snoored. And my vision is making music later in my personal lifetime. Thank you guys for this one above, was great listening. Really worth the time. Have a great sunday
Time for me to check out Russ & Santiago. I’m from the Eminem era and haven’t listened to rap in many years. This interview was so good, I’m so happy to see the younger generation of men step into their authenticity. Who are brave enough to face their personal mirror, who are willing to experience an ego death for real truth of self. Russ I appreciate you, I applaud your dedication to the awareness of mental health. Thank you Jay for such an inspiring and impactful interview. I’ll be sharing this with my 18 year old. ❤😊🙏🏻
Russ’s albums fascinates me because the way he talks to you here is just the same in his songs. Like here he said “That the new album is about me growing down” Made me see how his earlier stuff is the desire to manifest his vision, then more albums where he gets there with how great it is but at the same time with Nobody Knows - he has this sense of void still. Flash forward then to now with the new one where its like getting to the core of himself. It’s so real.
40 years old working through the hardest parts of my life and this….@17 minutes into it, is offering the relatable content I have been searching for. This journey of mine is one that I’m terribly afraid, but somehow hearing about another’s journey of work and seeing the transparent accountability for all that was wrong….. well, it makes me feel more human and accepted.
It felt like a talk between two best friends, and I felt SO seen. I have a very similar experience growing up. Really love that talk. Being a woman I felt all the same feeling. So, I guess it is about personality rather than gender, but it was very interesting to hear what men feel cuz they don't usually feel safe to express their emotions with woman and now I understand why
Psychedelics are just an exceptional mental health breakthrough. It's quite fascinating how effective they are against depression and anxiety. Saved my life.
This was so good, so insightful, I wish we could get more podcasts of Russ, I’ve never listened him speak his mind, and as a 22 year old that’s working on himself but is still feeling lost, this was exactly what I needed. Thanks!
That's the thing we can't get over it ,it doesn't go away . Depression, anxiety, self harm thoughts, keeping it in doesn't work . When I hold it in its never good , I isolate myself and scream . I too am still looking for answers .
I’ve been watching so many spiritual podcasts I almost forgot there are so many people who struggle with what some may seem as the basics of life. Like impulse control, codependency, and EGO identification 😢
As a man myself. Thank you so much for this. I’ve been dealing with identity crisis and hating myself , insecurities etc.. I truly appreciate this conversation. I’ve learn alot from it
I won't lie when he talks about how he used to say, “I did everything myself. I don't need anybody, but in reality, I needed everybody.” I saw it coming because he was pushing that whole belief way too hard to where you could tell he wanted something more like acceptance or attention.
I think you have met your kindred spirit in this man Jay. I sense you relate big time. This man has gained some wisdom through his own weaknesses. He is such an expressive articulate person as well, that he puts complex issues into simple words, which is a real gift. He is definitely a Poet, and maybe doesn’t know it. He has learnt the wisdom of Humility. Insightful interview Jay. 😊
I love how you are Russ, that you’re so close to the realization of the truth. And by that I mean, your on the right path to finding out that Jesus is Thee way. The way the truth and the light. Everything that you were saying, is right on that path! Plz keep going and breaking down those strong holds! Keep seeking and you shall find, I’ll be praying for you! Much love here ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

The thing is society, being women and overly masculine men, make real men feel like they can’t have emotions.

I so hope you're right.
Idk about all that
Russ is beginning to be my favorite artist for sure.
Probably my favorite podcast I’ve listened to. I had multiple realizations along with you guys and it was powerful. Thank you
I'm a woman but my dad treated me like that....get over it, figure it out.... this conversation I can relate to. Talk therapy is the best.
I totally resonated with this. But for me, it was my mom telling me this.
If I could ever love a man lol It would be this man
Happiness is temporary and contentment is forever. True happiness can only be obtained in Paradise.
Wow, I mean it makes sense that Russ is so wise based off of his lyrics, but seriously I was impressed
Ah man... "Help is coated as criticism"... I felt that... that's real and from a person that just started getting therapy, I feel that.
I felt right at home with this one. Made me feel way better about my self and how I want to interact with the people around me.
This man is always active and loving ! Such an amazing person inside and out ❤
A man with emotions and self awareness is the most attractive thing.
Really helped me in one of my lowest times. Thankyou Russ❤️
Keep ur head up. I just lost my mother to an overdose and I’m telling you this❤
I read a excellent book “The Compound Effect” and it really touches down on the “Why does success not bring happiness” Marker
And in that book it has a passage that reads:
"I have seen business moguls achieve their ultimate goals, but still live in frustration, worry, and fear. What's preventing these successful people from being happy? The answer is they have focused only on achievement and not fulfillment. Extraordinary accomplishment does not guarantee extraordinary joy, happiness, love, and a sense of meaning. These two skill sets feed off each other, and makes me believe that success without fulfillment is failure."
Highly reccomend that book to anyone looking to fill that empty feeling Russ explains & looking to better your life 😇
Russ you are so much authentic dude❤
Not intentionally chose to listen to this episode but turned out so glad I listened to this talk. I've never heard of Russ before but now I have to try listening to his crafts.
I remember telling my partner that it is okay to break down and I am here to comfort you. We are all human and have emotions. I love Russ so much and broke all stereotypes. I want my man strong and still soft. Much Love from South Africa.
Wow Russ is really well spoken wow literally talks volumes
Im not one to really comment on youtube.. but man what an interview.... Thanks Jay and Russ for this. Wish Nothing but blessing for the both of you.
Mind blowing
I'm 23 just quit all negative habits. Smoking drinking snoored. And my vision is making music later in my personal lifetime.
Thank you guys for this one above, was great listening. Really worth the time.
Have a great sunday
Russ is the reason I started singing again and listening more . ❤thank you Russ
Russ os truly a legend. He isn't just a rapper,he is a pure rockstar
Russ helped me become a better version of myself through his advice & his music. He's truly changing the industry.
Russ is a walking gem. I always gain clarity through his speaking.
Russ’s albums fascinates me because the way he talks to you here is just the same in his songs.
Like here he said “That the new album is about me growing down”
Made me see how his earlier stuff is the desire to manifest his vision, then more albums where he gets there with how great it is but at the same time with Nobody Knows - he has this sense of void still.
I love you Russ ❤️ thanks for showing this side of you
It felt like a talk between two best friends, and I felt SO seen.
CHOMP 2 is one of the best album Ive ever heard
As a man myself. Thank you so much for this. I’ve been dealing with identity crisis and hating myself , insecurities etc.. I truly appreciate this conversation. I’ve learn alot from it
Russ is one of the reasons i write my songs with a bigger purpose. Thanks Russell🤙🏽
I won't lie when he talks about how he used to say, “I did everything myself. I don't need anybody, but in reality, I needed everybody.” I saw it coming because he was pushing that whole belief way too hard to where you could tell he wanted something more like acceptance or attention.
Russ self awareness is truly astonishing just hearing him talk. I’m learning it’s amazing!!
Spot on!❤️
I love how you are Russ, that you’re so close to the realization of the truth. And by that I mean, your on the right path to finding out that Jesus is Thee way. The way the truth and the light. Everything that you were saying, is right on that path! Plz keep going and breaking down those strong holds! Keep seeking and you shall find, I’ll be praying for you! Much love here ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Just when I thought I couldn’t have any more respect for him. ❤
this is one of the most comforting conversation i’ve listened to
In my humble opinion, this podcast was THE most honest conversation. Many thoughts and feelings resonated personally.
Great work. 😊
I love thisssss! Met Russ one time and he performed, cool dude and had that energy. Glad to see he’s evolving. 😌🙏🏽
