We moved from SA to the UK a few months ago and what we find way more expensive in the UK is takeaways and eating out but you have to treat yourself sometimes! Groceries are fairly similar at least. Probably a little cheaper here than in SA
Another tip is with super markets if you go near when there closing things will be reduced and can get things cheap and freeze it. Where I am Asda closes at midnight but at 7pm reduce things have been there at 10pm before after a gym session and got bread for 10p and frozen it.
A tip, buy food from Aldi, Lidl, Poundland, Pound stretcher instead. A lot more affordable

Cost of living in the UK is obviously not so expensive that you cannot afford rather luxurious meals and snacks
