- Eamonn Holmes is joined live via satellite from Melbourne by the cast of Neighbours - the Australian soap opera that has rapidly become a phenomenon in the UK.
Alan Dale (Jim Robinson) Stefan Dennis (Paul Robinson), Anne Charleston (Madge Mitchell), Guy Pearce (Mike Young), Paul Keane (Des Clarke), Myra De Groot (Eileen Clarke), Jason Donovan (Scott Robinson) and Kylie Minogue (Charlene Robinson) answer viewers' questions about the show.
Originally broadcast 13 October, 1987.
Neighbours was a mainstay on the BBC for 22 years, before moving to Channel 5 in 2008.

I haven't watched Neighbours for nearly 30 years but the younger generation will never understand how massive this show was and what a big part of life it was growing up in the late 80s, early 90s..

This is strange yet wholesome. We forget that england was absolutely obsessed with neighbours in the 80s and this is a wonderful window into that. The cast are all so intelligent and thoughtful with their answers and it really was a golden era in Australian television.
Neighbours is almost as old as EastEnders. Now if they could only get rid of EastEnders

Fantastic. I was looking for this very interview, and see it was uploaded just a few days back. I saw this interview at the time. I must have had the day off school. Watching at the time, I guessed Kylie and Jason were likely a real life item. I also noticed Danny Ramsay wasn't there, and wondered what was going on, there. Of course Shane Ramsay wasn't, either (but both were still in the UK run).
This is a cool upload - well timed.
They could have got more out of this oppurtunity as felt a bit stilted.
@@naysmith5272 the idea of speaking to people on the other side of the world via satellite was pretty amazing. And there is not lag which is even more incredible. It’s possible everyone at both ends was prepared for it to not go as well as it did.
I love how they asked about Max Ramsay and the cast were squirming awkwardly. Max was sacked as he was causing problems though they were true professionals and didn't mention it

Yes and she was only 50.
She looked so healthy full of energy during the neighbours days. You wouldn’t think she’d pass a couple years later. Until the last episodes where she did look frail. But here she also looks amazing, so full of life, you wouldn’t think it. Only 6 months?!?!😧 I love her, a true legend and part of what made neighbours so great these days. She’s probs my fave character. I bet the other cast members were so heartbroken to hear of her passing.
Edit: read the description. If it really was Oct 1987, it really was 6 months after, she passed😓

I liked the character Jim Robinson.. he was an engineer apparently.. but he was never at work!!. Marvellous!!
I do remember he very occasionally had the odd blueprint laid out on the Robinsons' kitchen table together with some contraption he was tinkering with but as you say, this was the exception to the rule.
Myra de Groot is English Cockney born in London and Guy Pearce Born in ELY Cambridgeshire UK. Same with many others born in the UK Mrs Mangel Born in the UK , Daphne Born in Scotland, Jackie Woodbourne in Ireland. Benji Mcnair plays Malcom Kennedy Born in London UK.
Anne Charleston is Cornish, I know she was in Ireland before going to Australia, but she’s my Aunt and was born in Coverack in Cornwall

Myra de groot is a proper cockney Londoner. Guy Pearce is born in the UK. Madge Anne Charleston has Irish heritage.

@@MsPinkwolf yes but when it started it was on the bbc, the bbc tried axing neighbours for good, and it was off air until channel 5 took it on.
I am trying to point out that everything made by the bbc turns to crap, but when they have a good program offered to them they bin it off when it is still popular. I know channel 5 has struggled to finance overseas programs and I reckon more will have to go in order for channel five to save itself from going off air completely.

Wow! I’ve never seen them like this, outside of playing their characters 😂❤ so weird and amazing 😯😂 Myra de Groot seemed animated and lively as herself too:) I love this clip, you can see how close the cast were and it showed in their acting. Some of the other cast members maybe had left or weren’t there at the time or were there but not in this interview. Wish we could have seen Daphne Zoe davis max uncle tom Lucy Danny Shane Harold mangle, Jane, Nikki Dennison Laura Dennison…. Charlene’s bro Henry and grandparents, the list goes on…. I’d always wanted this type of footage of the old cast out of the scenes 🌟 it’s not as weird with K and J because I’ve seen many interviews with them from those times. love the way how Jim is next to Paul Scott together with Charlene and the best is seeing Eileen next to her Desmond😂At the very beginning you can see her holding on to him like a dear mother😂 I really wish most of all that Vivean Gray could have been there😂😂 I’ve always wanted to see this type of footage thank you for uploading.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ there are actually other vids of cast members of the 80s, but this is the best, partly cuz Myra De Groot is there!!!

Although I'd say she hit her peak quite a bit later, in the early 2000s.

They wanted it, but once these things become a bidding war and C5 was offering silly money, the BBC has to pull out because it's public service not commercial broadcaster so there are limits to what it can pay to keep a show.
The show will be pulled within a year, and you'll never hear from any of those actors again, mark my words.
