RDJ is an amazing actor- I loved his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes! This movie is great and Ben Stiller is also very funny- besides Zoolander and Meet the Fockers and Something about Mary, I really liked him in Night at the Museum 😊

One of the greatest Comedies of all time, and also a decent Action flick here and there. Plus it has an absolutely stellar cast and one of the best soundtracks ever. People like to say that this or that "couldn't get made these days", but in this case, it's 100% true. My two favourite RDJ performances are Natural Born Killers (where he plays another Australian) and A Scanner Darkly, but he's great in pretty much everything I've seen him in.

Good call recommending A Scanner Darkly, an absolute trip of a movie. Based on a Philip K Dick novel and featured a loaded cast (Keanu Reeves, Woody Harrelson, Winona Ryder, RDJ), I've always been surprised that it has been overlooked and hasn't at least gained some cult classic recognition.

Ben Stiller doesn't get the credit he deserves from his movies. Night At the Museum (his mom has a part), Meet the Parents, Dodgeball are all great comedies worth the time.

Simple Jack and this woman was in a farm, that's Ben Stiller's wife, Christine Taylor. She has a bigger role in Zoolander (reporter) and Dodgeball (auditor). At first, a lot of people didn't realize it was Tom Cruise, not for awhile or until the credits. Everyone was like "why is he so familiar...? Is that...? Nah... no way..?"
Despite most the movie taking place in Laos or Vietnam, they're were not in Vietnam anymore just before the heroin plant scenes. The Sandusky character estimated they were no longer in that region, just before the final scene (hence the mandarin they attempted to speak)
I love how every few years people get mad at the blackface in this movie while missing the point of it is they know it’s wrong, they did it to mock white folks playing POC as a whole
In the scene where they are “peeing” Ben Stiller mentions slime. That is a reference to Nickelodeon Kids choice movie award tradition of dumping a green slime on the winners. The green slime originates from a show called You Can’t Do That On Television that was from Canadian broadcasting that aired on Nick in the 80’s and would slime people for saying certain words. Nick took that and made it a trademark of the network and used it on many of their programs.

3:30 I always love this bit about a secret mission in southeast Vietnam. South Vietnam was allied with the US so there’s no reason to be performing a secret rescue in friendly territory. It’s another subtle indication the entire story is BS.
Vietnamese sounds somewat similar to Chinese to me, but Korean sounds like Korean, and Japanese sounds like Japanese. They don't all sound the same, unless people aren't actually listening. But I've only studied Japanese (and Latin), and was raised with English.
You need to watch Robert Downey Jr. In “Less Than Zero” …. A very different drama movie, but he was amazing! He wasn’t THE star … but he took over the movie!
Tom Cruise has more than proven himself. He doesn't need to hang from ropes or jump out of airplanes anymore. BUT! He does need to make a Les Grossman movie. With nothing else for him to achieve, this is the role he needs to finish his career on. Go out on top.

If you have a script as good as this, it could 100% be made today. The problem is that really good scripts are a very, very rare species these days.

Vietnamese sounds somewat similar to Chinese to me, but Korean sounds like Korean, and Japanese sounds like Japanese. They don't all sound the same, unless people aren't actually listening. But I've only studied Japanese (and Latin), and was raised with English.
