- In this video, we give you a step by step guide on how to diagnose and rebuild the top end or replace a head gasket on a Polaris 700 or 800 twin. We're working on a 2003 Polaris Sportsman 700, but the same steps apply to many Polaris 700 and 800 engines.

great video. I had to do mine. But my culprit was the oil pump. I recommend getting a new spring and valve for the pump.

What grit sandpaper did you use on the glass and how long did it take to make the head flat and clean with that? Multiple pieces of paper until it’s flat? I have a 600 twin and this looks like an identical process…I guess I’ll find out.
I need to do this have you ever tried using a new razor blade i use to go by nsil ting too but i learned from machinist too try use razor blade and wooola sure enough it was catching im stuck now its not bad at all hers a pic but i need to buy a hon tool like yours size would definitely help
What size hon are you using 83mm or 76mm
@motorbolt Cool video, Where did you get the head gasket kit?
We got it from our local supplier in Ottawa. You can likely get it online or at a Polaris dealer
Couple questions are you cranking with no oil in it to check compression and wouldn’t you have a lower compression with a blown head gasket?
There was still oil in it when we did the compression test. We don’t recommend cranking an engine without oil. And yes, you’re right about the low compression! The blown head gasket is likely why the compression was low on one side. A leak down test could help determine that, but we didn’t have a leak down test kit when we filmed this video.
