You are absolutely a fantastic mechanic. It amazes me how well you work on engines. Partzilla should be proud to have you on staff.
Excellent video's, John's attention to detail and straight forward approach to engine rebuilding is a welcome change to some of the stuff you see online.......much appreciated and thank you.
Thanks for the feedback, Nrgut! Just doing what we love. Glad we could help!
Great video. I run my own shop and buy all my parts through Partzilla. Thank you for this knowledge and great oem parts. Bill
Nice video very clear and precise thanks
really nice video
Thank you for the advice when I vent to re shim the valves I noticed there r no shims. I was told that I have to get whole new cups that have a different shim size build in have you guys heard of that
great videos but I aliens my rzr 1000 with the way you showed to get it on top dead center and my number one piston was about half way up to top so I was wondering if maybe the 1000 timed differ ant than the 900
hi i m rebuilting an rzr 1000xp with a sparks big bore kit are all the t0rk specs the same for a 900 an a 1000 an by the way a great video thank you for all the info
Was wondering why you put tdc at the case halve and the service manual says to use the cps sensor hole as the guide? Seems that your putting yours 90 degrees off per manual. 900 and 1000 difference?
help,I put my xp 900 together and I was 180 out on my intake cam,did I bend the values,
Hi I was wondering what grit lapping compound I should use I’m rebuilding a 15 ranger 900 xp all my exhaust valves got bent thanks in advance
Nice vedio
Iam rebuild a 2011 rzr 900 and when I pulled the crank out a half moon plug came out looks like a small half moon freeze plug I don't see anywhere it goes and nothing online like it any idea on it ? Thanks
Can you use new valve seal on old head. If you remove the bottom seat and seal.(washer&seal)
Hello,is the 570 engine about the same? Less one jug?? Thanks
Question I'm redoing my pistons and rings would you do a valve job also or just adjustment if the head seems to be in good shape.
Also what's your take on converting my razor to the big bore 935cc kit
Pull the valves (make sure you number them), clean off the carbon, and take a look at the seats. Also check out the seals to make sure none are hard or cracked. Be careful when modifying an engine as there is always a price to pay for higher performance. Hence why we had to rebuild this one.
how much would a rebuilt cost for the MRZR 4
Great video. I had a question on the cam sprocket bolts. I noticed in the service manual for 2013 RZR states to use new bolts for the cam sprockets (assuming because they come with a thread locker pre-applied). I recently did the valve timing on my 900xp motor and did get new cam sprocket bolts x 4 but realized that I had to remove the first two bolts (exhaust and intake) then the timing chain jumped while rotating the motor to reveal the next two sprocket holes. On the second try I got everything lined up and put the first two bolts back in (exhaust and intake) then the second two bolts fresh from Polaris. I did ensure everything was torqued to spec on the cam bolts. Should I be worried about the first two (re-used) bolts working loose? I noticed in this video the bolts were removed from the sprockets and put back in without thread locker so maybe it's not a big deal? Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!
The manufacturer always recommends replacing the bolts because they will stretch over multiple tightening. You should be fine if they are torqued correctly.
@@PartzillaParts Awesome thanks!
Did you torque the cam caps when measuring valve lash or can you leave them snug, measure then torque when complete?
Snug, you don't have to torque them down until final assembly.
I am wanting to buy a polaris Rzr 900 xp that a guy is selling for 1300 but I am afraid of not being able to do the rebuild; last time I went and looked at it. The guy said it ran but was knocking, so we got it started but died on us three times, the third time, starter wires got hot and we noticed it was locked; Whats your opinion? Thanks very excellent job. I have watched the videos a lot, trying to memorize the procedure.
Shop manual takes you through the whole process.
These videos are nice though for hands on.
I just rebuilt a 2015 Polaris ranger 900 and did a bench compression test and found 145 psi on one side and 45 on the other could the shims possibly be the culprit? and where can I purchase the shim kit. thanks
Hello randy. You may have a tight valve or two, which could be a result of incorrect valve lash. Here you go!

On this unit you will have to replace the entire bucket to adj the valve clearance.
Where is the number to calibrate levas tree??
when I took my exhaust off what should the inside be like? mine is really black and gritty
Hello Joe. This is normal. What you are looking at is a build up of carbon.
i hope those were steel valves. you never lap titanium valves do to the coating on them.
The alignment plate that was used to set the cams, anyone have a part number for that tool? is it something home/ shop made?
You just need a plate that keeps the cams aligned.
Partzilla gotcha! Thanks!
i didnt see the idler gear instaled?
Yes, with the edit, we skipped the idler gear installation. It was mentioned, but not shown.
I thought I'd let everybody know that on a 2014 rzr 1000 the top dead center is not like this the line on the flywheel is pointing straight up
