I bought a Yardmax plate compactor. It took three tries to get one that was not damaged beyond use on arrival. Their packaging is horrible. On the third one I just had them send me the broken parts and fixed it. Set my project back five weeks. The compactor worked like a dream once I got it running.

I never gave it a thought until you mentioned it. I have always used automotive oil except for marine applications in small engines. I will definitely research that issue (however I don’t doubt your word). Thanks 😊.

He said he checked the oil and didn't mention it being low, however he did say it was full of silver shavings. Then he did an oil change and it started knocking and locked up. It was definitely locked up tight as he showed by disconnecting spark plug & trying to move the blade.... And of course we seen how bad it was when he tore the engine apart at the end of video. Chinese garbage engine & I had one do the same thing as well. That same 170cc engine is also used on the powersmart mowers & junk....

Question I bought one of these for the little amount of grass my JD rider couldn't get to. It stopped working and sounds like a bag of bolts when I try to start it. I don't have but maybe 3-4 hours tops, I've filled the tank twice. Junk ... but will they stand behind the warranty? Just wondering

I saw all the hard carbon deposits on top the piston, but otherwise everything looked clean. Do you think the real underlying cause was the piston to bore clearance, that when the engine initially got hot under load the clearance changed and caused it to score that aluminum cylinder wall. In other words, bad machining on the cylinder diameter? Or, do you think it was the piston that was out of spec and scored first? It did not appear that the rings were broken.

Appears to be a Ducar engine from a Chinese manufacturer. Same engines used on the Pulsar brand of mowers here in the USA. Cheap mowers sold at big box stores such as Menards, which sells the Pulsar brand. I have done repairs to no less than THREE Pulsar mowers in one month this year alone, all three of which were in relatively new condition with few hours runtime and I am DONE working on Pulsar or any similar branded mowers.

Poor quality junk! This turd is designed just to make it through the warranty period. I've got a 1978 Lawn Boy 2 stroke that'll probably outlive me, so I'm set. It's infinitely repairable and built to last, but now repair parts are drying up. Now that Honda's out of the push mower business, what mower should someone buy that won't be headed to the junkyard in 3 years?

    • @shorttrackaction.8217

That's why a lot of people are trying to find a good used push mower & have a reliable engine. The old Lawn-Boy
2-Cycle like you have can last for many decades. Remember the old days when our grandparents would have push mowers 30+ years old and still running strong?

Hey Raley, just wanted to let you know that Yardmax, who's product is junk, I found out, is using THIS video of yours to send to their customers who file a claim. We got the video this morning and were surprised to see they are using it, since you clearly prove that their mowers are junk. I totally agree with ya. It's ironic that 3 weeks ago I saw this video, but my wife got an email today, with this video as an attachment from a Yardmax rep who is blaming YOU for ordering the wrong engine, three times. So, they are using your video as a DIY, but saying you ordered the wrong engines to try to cover their rear ends. Now this rep is clearly out of her mind. They are giving us a song and dance so they don't have to do anything to replace their terrible mowers. Blessings, just thought you'd want to know.
